Mate you get my thumbs up, subscription and praise.. you might be getting old but this video is gold. Will strip out our 2006 1.6 XEP Astra H condensor and refit new because of your video. Else R1500 labour here in South Africa for a relativley simple job. Thanks man!
I bought an 2006 astra 1.4 petrol a few months ago with none running AC, decided to replace my condenser which was literally falling apart, I also replaced the Schrader valve just in case, I found there is a lot of space behind the grill so I managed to do it without removing the bumper, bought the condenser off eBay for £50 plus some seals and Schrader valves for another £15 then I had it recharged at ATS using a Groupon voucher for only £42 and it's now working a treat, gets cold really quickly, I just hope it stays that way 😊
Glad to hear you got it sorted I fitted my condenser last year and only got it gassed at the MOT a couple of weeks ago, so far so good
@@VauxrezNeil Good stuff, car air con is a terrible design really, even new cars supposedly need regassing every couple of years and you can spend a fortune letting a garage fix a leak for you, I asked a garage once and they said it would start at like £200 upwards which as always is nearly all labour charges but since everyone says its the condenser that causes most problems,replacing that yourself can be a cheap fix !!!!
you don't have to take off the entire front bumper. you only need to disassemble the grill at the top and bottom. You can then remove the condenser from the top. saves a lot of work 👍
I agree, you don't need to, but for the sake of a few bolts and half an hour it made life a lot easier and enable me to video things mor clearly
Thanks mate! I have a zafira b 1.9 turbo diesel, (so i have an intercooler and a different condenser, but same chassis) and i couldn't figure out how to take the bumper off, since i have to change the cooler out (have holes in it i'm afraid), now i do! 10/10 video and thank you for making it!

Just got my 06 astra 1.4 sxi, its a much better drive than a mk3 focus i had but I do miss the later focus's interior and toys, everythings too square for my liking on the astra H, lol .I've always had ford's or vauxhall's including a few mk2 gte's, 1.8 and a mental 2.0 16v which i loved but they all rusted away, I did try my hand at rebuilding a wrecked porsche 944 many years ago but that didn't end well, lol

I would agree with 4418CARLOU that 90 - 95 is about right, the lack of a temperature gauge on the Astra H doesn't help although you can read the temp via a "secret" menu on the trip computer
Was it the condenser in the end?
yes it was but a few months later the compressor failed as well
@@VauxrezNeil Mine turned to to be the fan bracket had worn through a small part of the condenser due to a missing fixing. I used thinners and a soft wire brush to clean the damaged area then applied liquid metal. Still holding gas to this day. 🤞
what was the inlet and oulet width in mm? having a hard time figuring out which condenser to get

Sorry, I'm not sure, I just entered my Reg number into the car parts website (think it was AutoDoc on this occasion) and compared the pictures my existing condenser, all I can suggest if you are unsure is to remove your condenser and measure the pipes, you can leave the condenser out while you wait for the new one to arrive, just make sure you plus/cover any open pipe ends to prevent dirt entering the system

If you install a new pressure sensor, does it need a re-gas?
Hi, When you remove the sensor you're opening the system up and so will release some or more likely most of the gas,, also legally speaking You're supposed to have the system emptied at a garage even before you remove the sensor unless you're 'sure' it's already empty,; why do you think the sensor is defective ? Bridging the sensor connection is only done to confirm if your pump/clutch is working or not and either proves it's not or if it does starts up that the system is very low on gas and probably has a leak somewhere !!?

Had it recharged and it was fine for about 2 months now its not getting cold again and the pump has started making a noise, another job and another vid 😉probably leave it till the spring now and get it leak tested and any refrigerant removed when its in for MOT
Exactly the problem I’m getting. Noisy. I’ve just changed the alternator as the one way clutch on it was gone. Much quieter but aircon is still noisy. Definitely a job for spring 👍🏻
