  • Showcasing the impact of the Welsh Valleys Engineering Product at Deighton Primary School.
The Welsh Valleys have a long history of engineering and the Royal Academy of Engineering is keen to build on that heritage, supporting the untapped engineering potential within students in this area to build a skills base that will support many of the new engineering companies that are investing in South Wales. Our regional programme delivers focused STEM education support for students and teachers and provides career guidance. We see this as integral to transforming the community and raising aspirations in the region.
Our partnership approach draws together pupils from primary and secondary schools, further education colleges, employers, government and other key stakeholders to inspire and encourage more young people to study science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects in post-16 education. The programme enriches the curriculum, stimulates interest, and improves student attainment outcomes by bringing real-world engineering practice into the student experience. We are working together to encourage more people, especially young women and other under-represented groups to progress towards professional engineering and technician roles in local industry.
