    Great video.
    Great riparium plant.
    I grow umbrella sedge for many years in my riparium, combined with a plenum gravel filter (custom home made). The moment it is establishing (after the second sprout), the growth is continuous and vigorous.
    It is not spreading too fast outwards from the main column, but it's root system will be all over in the aquarium/riparium substrate. It will not come out from the substrate, it tries to go as deep as it can. But, even if the roots would be exposed, they have a reddish coloring, which is very pretty and gives a natural aquatic appearance.
    Overall, great riparium plant, beginner friendly and good biological filter.
    My next try will be with Schoenoplectus lacustris (lakeshore bulrush), because Phragmites australis (common reed) is way too aggressive in shoots and sprouting (need to be contained). 🙂

    Awesome information. I've used the approach for several years with great results. We have very hard water in New Mexico. My question is will plants soften the water by taking up calcium. I've gone 6,7 months before doing a water change. Thanks for the video.

    • @plantlifeproject
      @plantlifeproject  2 месяца назад

      Thanks! I have hard water, around PH of 8. I typically do water changes around 3-4 months but some tanks I push to 1 year. Haven’t noticed a decrease in calcium but haven’t done an experiment to test this specifically. It would be a great experiment to try.

      It’s a tough plant. Mine survived last winter growing in a plastic tub in soil and it got down to 15 degrees. It went dormant, the foliage died back but it came back in the spring and has been prolific this year.

    Can you submerged the whole pot in the tub pond?

    • @plantlifeproject
      @plantlifeproject  Месяц назад +1

      Yes, the whole pot can be submerged up to 12 inches, or so, deep.

    • @plantlifeproject

      Yes in a shallow tank, all of the foliage needs to be above the water

    Do you have issues with fish jumping out of the open-top sides of your tanks? I dream of having a peace lily/cat palm combo growing out of my tank, but I am so paranoid😰

    • @plantlifeproject
      @plantlifeproject  5 месяцев назад +2

      I have not had any problems with jumping fish. It just depends on the fish species you’re keeping I think.

    • @plantlifeproject

      Well that sucks. Not sure why. I have never had that problem. You could try placing it partially submerged with the crown above the water line? Have you tried growing it in soil and not in the water?
