    I just ordered new climbing pins, handle etc. for an old hi lift a buddy gave me. I'm gonna restore it and put it in a samurai I'm building. By the time I checked out with all the stuff I needed I could have bought a new one on the amazon hi lift store for $23 more.....oh well, it'll be fun. Thanks for the video.

    Enjoyed the resto. Never seen that hood mount. Pretty cool.

    • @OneNationRestorations
      @OneNationRestorations  2 года назад

      It's a pretty ridiculous flex. It slightly blocks the windshield washer fluid and it's super exposed to the elements. Inside back seat/floor is preferred 👌

      Pretty dangerous... A big lump of skull crushing metal right in front of your windshield. Handy for spectacular crash fatalities.

      I couldn't agree more. If Hi-lift hasn't been sued for this kit, it must have an excellent track record. But I'd still be nervous.

    Looks like the one I just picked up. Hi-Lift customer support said my jack was early 1960's (1962) HL-485(All Cast Model).

    Thanks for this video. I've got one of these old hi lift jacks. That I been trying to get it to function properly. It's all froze up. I didn't know they sold rebuild kits for them.

    I have the same exact model. The only difference is that mine also had two pawls on it that allowed the user to pull wire tight with the jack. I contacted Hi-Lift and was told that they stopped making these particular jacks in the 1950s, so yours is probably of the same vintage.

    Nice resto. What brand of ratchet wrench was that? Looks cool! And where can I get them?

    • @OneNationRestorations
      @OneNationRestorations  2 года назад +1

      SK Professional Tools - X-Frame. I bought them directly from the manufacturers website. Surprisingly, they're much cheaper than when they first came out.

    I’m about to rebuild my dad’s old jack for my son. It’s over 50 years old and has the decal instead of the cast lettering so yours must be even older. I wish it had the cast lettering and that I had access to a sand blaster. I have replacement decals.

    The Hi-Lift's predecessor was invented in 1905 and sold as the Automatic Combination Tool. The original jack was commonly known as the Handyman or Sheepherder's Jack, and years later it was renamed the Hi-Lift Jack.

    Just save the rebuild for when it actually stops working Clean the crud off, lube it up, and keep the patina. That vintage Hi-Lift should be strapped to a Willys and not some cheap Italian Jeep Knock-Off.

    It not that old, the way older one didn't come with a removable handle. I have a few of those from pre 70s is my guess,
