Ski-Doo Ambassador Dave Norona takes a look at the 2023 Ski-Doo 10.25 inch gauge. Questions below please and if you can like and subscribe. Cheers dave
It’s good that Ski Doo took a step forward but this gauge doesn’t hit the mark in terms of navigation, the main reason to have a big screen. Requiring wireless cellular service and connection to a phone doesn’t work. Most of the places I ride don’t have cell service. I’m hopeful future versions will match the capabilities of the Polaris 7S screen which is a superior offering. I opted for the standard gauge on my spring order from Ski Doo.
Completely agree. Originally ordered the large gauge until I realized how useless it was for us mountain riders. I quickly phone the dealer back and changed to smaller gauge. Good thing Skidoo hit the rest out of the ball park because this was a bigger disappointment then receiving socks for Xmas!
@@gregchapdelaine4889 Agreed. Literally the only feature I would want is navigation/buddy tracking like the Polaris. l replace my sled every year lately so there's always next year!
I can’t wait to get mine. I like the way ski doo had the screen laying down. The Polaris screen sticks up too high in my opinion. They better get their butts in gear and finish the BRP GO! app. All I ask is that it’s better then the S7.
not going to happen right away with polaris working and owning part of the company, but this is a strat as we always say, I am excited about where it goes
@@DaveNorona Shame im sure each company would save a load on manufacturing etc and with supply chains being what they are could be a sensible move. im pretty sure there wouldn't be any complaints from customers I would be interested to know how many skidoo riders want the Polaris s7 dash
Ski-Doo seems to consistently find a way to check the box on features without truly understanding why they were desired. I was happy enough with the Gen 5 changes and the new turbo to order one, but Polaris is doing an awful lot of things better. This gauge is just one of many examples. This gauge is a joke for the price, and I definitely didn't order it.
That gauge is bordering on rediculous features that are not needed and totally missed the mark on Skidoo’s end. I don’t think guys are looking for a desktop computer. It looks like a nice lunch table for all the boys tho LOL
@@DaveNorona I am sure there are lots of people who think it’s cool. But Dave, you’re out there enjoying the mountains riding a snowmobile! What more fun than that!? Guys are not checking their Facebook status. That’s what they do sitting at home watching your videos wishing they were in the mountains. In my opinion, all we really want is mapping/navigation on a nice looking LCD screen and doesn’t need to be 10.25”, it just takes up way too much space and looks like a dinning room table. I’d bet you could save 5 lbs there.
@@mitchbeauchamp3397 like anything, you have a choice, I love the gauge for the size, it would just be plastics there as well. Actually one of the best things you can carry now for safety on maps is an ipad, using an app ;ike gaia it will follow you all day and you can breadcrumb and place important way points using your cell phone gps without cell service. The reason is any gps unit screen is too small to see details and when you go in for details you lose big picture, big screens allow you to do both very well so screen size does matter.
Swing and a miss. The whole point of an updated gauge was to compete with Polaris. No GPS without a cell phone plugged into it. And no buddy tracking unless all riders have active cell service data. 🙄
@@teachdougie8139 you made me doubt so i re read Polaris ride command most recent specs and you are right.... here is the text : A vehicle-to-vehicle antenna (V2V) works anywhere, with no phone required. It requires an installed V2V antenna, which is standard on model year 2021 and newer snowmobiles with a 7S display. It has a range of more than one mile between vehicles.
starting point, there are actually many advantages to have it all on the phone, as it can be updated through wifi instantly where as a built in must go back to dealer to do that....with it on your phone it grows as new features do, built in it does not. Remember this is a starting point
@@DaveNorona I don’t see the “update with phone” feature as mutually exclusive with other features that can (or should) be operable without the phone. I expect any digital device these days to be upgradable via WiFi but I think a mountain sled’s gauge shouldn’t require a phone to perform basic functions like navigation with to me is the main reason to have a big gauge. I’m looking forward to seeing an actual detailed demo of the gauge and it’s kind mysterious why BRP didn’t put one out when they released the 2023s.
I have this gauge on order. I totally see the potential! I currently use my phone as my main GPS nav already. Has there been any talk amongst the design team about uploading .KML files (google tracks) to the BRP Go app?
Dave, The placement of the gauge is such that it looks like it would be begging to break during a rollover or a slide for life down a mountainside. Also, as an older rider who isn’t quite so caught up in the ‘tech’ frenzy this looks like it could be a source of distracted driving when eyes should always be on what’s ahead of us.
That's ok I feel the same way not needed in my opinion on where I ride and how I ride but that's why ski doo just offers it as a option they are not stock on all their sled.
Dave, When is the next update coming? I used it this past weekend, and the navigation is disappointing. It cannot load any waypoints without service, even with downloaded maps. You can’t even save a waypoint from the screen and label it. Canceling a ride is delayed and constantly crashes. Never mind, when it tries to work, it says unable to create a route. There is No top speed or high RPMs logged. Viewing friends maybe worked for 30 seconds. Make sure you have a Garmin handy, so you don’t get lost in the woods!
Is Skidoo currently developing a GPS antenna for an upcoming update? Skidoo should pay attention to the innovative G8 Snowmobile Gauge, a brilliant collaboration with Garmin. I must admit that I'm very dissatisfied with the current gauge. Still, I'm sincerely hopeful that I can make the most of this $1200 investment for its intended purpose: GPS and friend tracking in remote wilderness areas without cell service.
I am glad all these things are optional, if they were standard it would just drive up the cost for features i have no use for. i dont care to listen to music, or have infinitely adjustable heated grips/thumb, adjustable brake levers, the only thing outside of basic gauges i would like is mapping and being able to follow my friends on my map as well without cell service. meh. i do like the lunch table idea lol. i always eat and drink on the trail /in the mountains instead of going someplace.
There are more than one way to skin a cat, and although the 7s has some great features, don't count on what is coming, the guage for the doo will be uploadable, rather than you having to bring the whole machine in to upgrade it.
Dave we know you get paid to push BRP product, but let's be real here for a second. In what way does this guage out perform the Polaris 7S? -Ease of use, nope -Rider Tracking without apps, nope -Avalanche Safety, nope -cost, nope People want a guage that is simple, doesn't involve phones, apps etc. The 7S is the ticket.
