- Here is the second episode of Super Password from September 1984 (I'll do the premiere sometime later perhaps).
As we pick up from said premiere, defending champion Ed (who has $1200 total thus far) has a $100 to zip lead on Patricia. Who will go for a shot at $10,000 in the end game?

Been binge watching these retro game shows and realized when the guests introduce themselves, and the age of their kids - those kids would be older than me today and probably have kids of their own.

This is on Amazon now. In a later episode, Patricia said she wanted to open a bed-and-breakfast with her winnings. I wonder if she did.
Note at the beginning Bert was trying to avoid saying "Password Plus" since he and everybody else knew it was the same show with a new set, and very few other changes.
So weird that when her partner gave the clue "lovers" Gloria Loring responded with "friends" because 2 years later she had her one big hit with the song "Friends and Lovers".
Records are sometimes planned years in advance of release. Maybe it was on her mind.

I know right, I had GSN from 1999 to 2013. Reason why I don't have it anymore is because my cable company I have now doesn't carry GSN, they used to, but not anymore.

I thought this was only on for two years. I didn't know that it was on five years. I can't comment about Bert Convy hosting the show. But I'll bet it was hard for him to fill Allen Ludden's shoes.
Sadly, Bert Convy passed away in 1991 from a brain tumor. Allen Ludden died on June 9, 1981. May they both rest in peace l. Amen
I thought it was on until 1988. They kept it until March 1989.
The only host from Password Plus/Super Password still alive is Tom Kennedy. Bill Cullen also passed away in 1990.

On several shows when Cashword is played, Burt holds up what he claims is a real check, with the bank account info at the bottom, on full display. Times were different then.
I often wondered if a player having no money gains or who has low amount resents their opponent who has over $500.Pat Sajak kinda resembles George Jones when younger.

Looks like something had to be refilmed at the end of the bonus round with "Leg."
It's odd that there is no on-screen or verbal disclaimer about the edited segment. NBC usually had very strict rules about that.
@@andyrose5616 Good point. Looking at it now after these years, maybe they just had to use a different camera in that section. Like, something happened in the background--a streaker or something--and they had another camera filming. I do wonder.
@@TommygunNG There was definitely a straight-cut edit there, and the end was a pickup. You can hear the bell get cut off, plus the timer doesn't exactly match and Patricia's facial expression is slightly different when the camera changes. It's possible that there was a different L clue that had to be thrown out for some reason and they replaced it with Leg. Or maybe Pat thought K was the last clue and originally ended it there (you can see him start to say something right before the edit).
However, it kind of looks like Patricia is anticipating her win (she starts celebrating a hair before the bell sounds), so it's also possible that she got Leg right, but they initially counted it as wrong and decided to redo the winning moment after checking the tape. They let a lot of mistakes air over the years on Super Password, but they probably didn't want to show a major screwup on the second show.
@@andyrose5616 I know. I remember looking it several times before commenting. I confess, though, I missed the expression on Sajak's mouth. Circumstantial, but enough to restore my confidence in my initial assessment. That said, the lack of disclaimer at the end is a major oddity (and fail).

I’m guessing Bert probably wished he could have started this episode all over again! He definitely was having a rough go of it.. luckily, Pat had his back! (And didn’t steal Bert’s gig!! lol)

yes. and having the option because you guessed the word in the puzzle made each word important. what's the big deal of getting the first word if no option? hardly anyone guesses the puzzle correctly on the first word.

Judging by the explanation of the Cashword, Pat already knew the rules better than Bert.

Also feels like somebody was vhs recording this in '99 as well(was brought back on the regular schedule alongside with the arrival of the ill-fated Love Buffet) after having full episode treatments in the As Seen On Theater slot during ASO's first season.
1999 was the year I first got GSN through Mediacom, which is what I switched back to. I had Mediacom from 1999 to 2005. I switched to Dish Network and had it from 2005 to 2013. Mediacom no longer carries GSN as of today. I'm better off without it, don't like what they are showing now.

I’m a little confused about something. Can anyone explain why they wouldn’t allow some clues in the game, but would allow others? Is it because it would make the password too obvious? Gloria tried to say Los Angeles as a clue for California, but the buzzer sounded. Yet they allowed Patricia to say Sacramento for her clue.

The main things are it has to be one word, can't be a form of the answer, and can't be a made-up word. In some versions of Password they didn't allow opposites or rhymes but I think they did in this version.
