Mike is the most adorable thing: Having to look down really far to be able to see what he's doing, singing songs from the little mermaid, and generally wearing the silliest (albeit inspired!) costume ever ^_^
When Mike isn't cooking, he spends his time buying products to marinate his soft and smooth, pampered skin.. His hobbies include polishing sea shells, turning them into bras. His bffs are Ariel and Simba.
Thank you Sorted for representing Singapore! Loving all the emblems and props the guys are wearing, its hilarious!! Also loving how they are trying to be as authentic as they can in their recipes :))
Hello laddies, Singaporean here. Really appreciate the thought that goes into this week's theme! Just my 2 cents here 1) Really good attempt for Jamie's take on Roti John! Personally I felt it was a strategic choice to leverage upon your knowledge of sandwiches/ bahnmi & recreate it into a Roti John. That Singapore Sling joke is pretty good too :) 2) Barry's laksa earns my point too! Maybe substitute the chicken with some steamed cockles, and it'll be a downslide victory hands-down from Singaporeans 3) Rather than our humble satay which looks smaller, Mike's satay is comparable to Turkish kebabs. Our peanut sauce is much coarser from grounded peanuts, grated ginger, chili oil, with some pineapple puree for an authentic Hainanese touch :) Besides Nasi Lemak & Chicken rice, if anyone makes "Char Kway Teow" (Noodles (Egg + Rice) stirred fried in dark soy sauce) , "Bak Chor Mee" (Loosely translated into Minced Pork noodles) or "Fried Carrot Cake" (Rice Cake Omelette with diced CaiXin (Sometimes known as Chinese Kale) pickles + carrots), it will be easy to locals over too! :D
As a Singaporean I'm really touched by this dedication to Singapore ❤️ LOVE YOU SORTED FOOD!!!! 1. Barry's laksa is almost 100% authentic. Thank you so much!! ☺️ 2. Roti john was done well! Although some versions coats the sandwich with a beaten egg and then pan fry it. Like a french toast. Try it! If not, it needs some EGGS in it 🍳 3. Good attempt at the satay. although as a Singaporean Chinese, pork satay is still the best :) and it really needs to be cooked over a charcoal grill and the sauce is a little too pale
Haha don't worry about it! Here in Singapore, there's many different races of people living together. I can't really name them all, but the ethnicities here are mainly categorized by the "CMIO" system: Chinese, Malays, Indians and Others. The largest ethnic demographic is the Chinese, although there is also a large Malay Muslim and Hindu Tamil population as well. There's also quite a sizable expatriate community here as well. With so many ethnicities living in one country, we do often have squabbles and conflicts due to cultural differences, but we generally always put aside our differences and get along with each other pretty well~
chicken satay represent Singapore better bc We're multicultural so having it pork isn't fair. and I haven't seen any pork satay around bc it's usually authentically made by indian/malays
I have SO MUCH appreciation for this Singapore week, although I'm Malaysian, the amount of community contribution and authenticity that you have tried your best to replicate makes me happy
Posting from Canberra, Australia. I made Jamie's Roti John yesterday - more than four years after this video. It was delicious and we loved it! The only thing is, next time I chop a green chilli, I will wear gloves because my fingertips were burning for hours afterwards!! :D
just a tip when making Roti John. Instead of putting the egg on the bagguette. its better to pour the egg on the pan THEN putthe bread on top of the egg. nonetheless good job in representing this small nation we call home. Thank you for acknowledging the cultural diversity here!
10 mins into the video and I still did not pay attention to what they're actually cooking because I'm too busy laughing at all the costumes and jokes. lots of love from Singapore here :D
How is it I’ve never heard of this channel ?? I’ve gone crazy for the last 3 days watching this show ... the chemistry you guys have is perfect and it seems to really work great in screen ... keep up the good work because this show is one of my favorites on RUclips
As a Singaporean, I'm so happy that you guys decided to do a video dedicated to my country. I've been living here in the UK for a while now, and while it took a while to get used to things, it's because of people like you guys, who are willing to explore and find out things beyond what you already know, that made settling in so much easier. It might seem like a small thing... but just the fact that you guys wanted to know more about my culture, about the food there... it just really makes me, as an immigrant, feel accepted here. So thank you very much SORTEDfood :) HAVE A CRACKIN' SUNDAY!
4:07 is what my Singaporean housing estate sounds like during the school holidays (construction hammering, shouting and random singing), so props for authenticity! *falls over laughing*
Barry's little epiphany at 7:18 is everything :') keep doing you guys!! It's the very fact that y'all are 30 something and still so youthful that gives us all such joy. Carry on 😊🌟
I just re-watched this because we are going into lockdown again tomorrow and I needed some joy. I noticed Ben wiping Mike's little merlion nose at 2:58 and that made my whole day better ♥
Please do a coffee battle for all the addicts (myself included) who literally try to find an excuse of putting it in just about anything☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️
Thanks a bunch guys for making an episode on Singapore's food! Tremendous effort there A slight bit different from the original but hey, that itself is kinda similar to Singapore culture there, bringing different cultures together with a little twist while making it our own. :D Enjoyed this episode really much as a Singaporean, keep up the great work!
😂 love this episode so much! You guys are well dressed up for Singapore national day now. Fun fact(?) : In some hawker stalls in Singapore, they blitz pineapple into their satay sauce! And sadly that culture of counting your skewers after you are done, is gone. You order the amount of sticks you want, and you get that amount. You can however count the sticks of your pal, and judge them :P Also I don't know if anyone refer to white people in Singapore as John, but we definitely refer to them as 'Ang moh'. Which directly translates to red hair 😂
SuperPearlyn ang mohs were referred to as johns a long time ago! Which was when roti John was first created. The grated pineapple is also a Chinese style.
SuperPearlyn that's really interesting to know! It's odd because even among us white people, red heads are rare. I have pale red hair and I like it though. 😊
The editing in this episode is top notch. Snaps to whoever added all the cheeky comments. Also, dying anytime Mike had to look at something while wearing the lions head.
Maybe I'm biased, but you guys look like you were having SO much fun with this theme and it really makes me so happy, it warms my heart :-) SG x SORTED
The video is 15 minutes long... but it took me about 25 minutes to watch because I kept pausing the video to admire Barry's eyes. That red paint is making the blue pop out like crazy!
here I am, 5 am in the morning, loop watching Mike and cracking up every single time. You have made my weekend. I'm cry laughing so hard right now. You look so amazing.... I wish I could as magical as you as a merlion.
They should have narrated all the steps in Singlish! Thanks for the great video, also Mike should become our national symbol, nailed that costume 10/10
I have always loved SORTEDfood and watched your videos, but this week of exploration of Singapore foods and culture is much appreciated! Feeling so much pride from the little red dot. Thank you also for giving credit to our Malaysian neighbours for some dishes! P.S. LOVE the costumes!
man laksa is REALLY hard to make so I was surprised that it was Barry who attempted it, you get my vote! All in all, I think the research was ample and obvious to see this time since sorted didn't mess up any dish from this week. Thank you soooo much for doing Singapore as a theme i am really happy, come visit our little island some time, we have loads more good food! ;)
As the COVID19 situation gets worse in Singapore, as a Singaporean fan, I want to thank you for providing us with entertainment and laughter during this rough period :3 thanks for adding this to the playlist, what a throwback
i binge watch this channel all day, yall need to make more content like I fully understand that good quality content takes time, and yall cant do the insane amount of cooking you do on a daily basis, but some interesting filler content between main cooking shows could really do the channel some good, cause we all know more content means more views, which means more clicks on ads. keep up the good work. (yall need to do a road trip, and do battles for things you can make during the trip)
This is one of those moments I am proud to be a Singaporean. And most entertained as a Singaporean watching 3 lads attempting dishes that are Singaporean/Malaysian. This should have happened on the week of Singapore's National Day in August but I'll just watch this Singapore themed during that week.
As a singaporean, my fav costume has to be Mike’s HAHAHA but maybe don’t blend the sauce up next time, it should be chunky with pieces of peanuts in it. Good effort!!!
whoever edited this video.. all props to you bc how could sll three mess up ingredients and processes. must be the most hectic battle yet. on another note, that satay looks absolutely legit mike
Hey SORTED crew, I know from previous comments you said you might do a Malaysia themed week; but I suggest you do Malaysian Laksa theme week later! Because Malaysia has many types of Laksa from different city or state. Like Laksa Sarawak, Laksa Penang, Laksam, Laksa Johor, Laksa Kedah, and Laksa Katong (which is Singaporean Laksa). I think there are other type of Laksa in Malaysia but your Malaysian fans can help you with the list ;) what do you think guys? Ps. Anthony Bourdain has came twice to Sarawak and came for Laksa Sarawak again because he loves it. I read an article that he suggest Laksa Sarawak in his Top 10 Wish List for his food market in NYC.
SORTEDfood I'm from Sarawak so it's Laksa Sarawak. But my favourite Laksa has to be Laksa Sarawak, Laksa Penang, Laksam and Laksa Katong. Sorry can't give you one favourite cause all of them taste amazing but does not taste similar at all!
This is very late to reply but I love all laksa but my personal favourite my primary school laksa( I have no idea what type it was lol 😂 ) and Penang laksa
I have to tell you guys that, after watching your videos from the oldest, and I’m still binging them after 6, or 7 weeks, to less old, I have asked my now good buddy ChatGPT for the recipes for curry powder, and Chinese 5 spice, and have made them both. They smell amazing. I can’t wait to make a chicken curry as my husband, and I have no idea what that tastes like. Thanks for inspiring me.
I would love if you guys did like a soup battle, because I really love soup and your battles always give me great ideas. Alternately you could do Stew, which is also great. Another thing I'd love to see is if you guys could do something for summer Like the Ultimate No Bake dessert battle so I don't have to use my stove or something. it also might be cool if you did more themes based around different countries and their cuisine because this was great.
Brownie point for Mike that is the best costume yet for an ultimate battle. Another brownie point for whoever edited the video. I never get bored watching SORTED videos!
9:56 Sry if i'm mistaken but I don't know a single satay store that actually counts the sticks after consumption.... If its counting sticks, then deducing the price that would be like hot pot/steam boat
currently watching while eating some satay. yes it looks so wrong and i don't know about you but my (indonesian satay) sauce is a bit crunchy no smooth.
don't forget we have peanut bits in our satay sauce + it tastes better 'cause of kecap manis (sweet black soy sauce) DON'T FORGET US SOUTH ASIANS IN THE WORLD
Someone should have made mee pok or fishball noodles or char siew rice!! Satay definitely is 2 times bigger than usual (but that doesn't matter) i just wonder how your peanut sauce tastes because it looks so different from the one's from singapore!
Lior Lim Mike forgot the sambal that goes into the peanut sauce, as pointed out by the editor. That's why his peanut sauce is so pale and looks so off!
I can't believe they all wore something related to singapore, how patriotic (and hilarious) edit: now that i'm thinking abt it, they could've sung the national anthem to be more patriotic
I actually truly love that he went with the Roti John because it's a local delicacy that's often overlooked by foreigners or tourists when they think about Singaporean food. Everybody always goes for the chili crab, which I've personally had only once in my lifetime here as a 22 year old true blue native Singaporean. The Roti John on the other hand is a staple of our night markets and food bazaars and is widely enjoyed all the time! Kudos for that, eh!
Love this channel, don’t subscribe to much but 3 vids in, SORTED! Quick thing I wanted to share: You guys should chuck all of the box weeks into playlists, like the Singapore week videos where we can watch them straight through.
Ben's got it spot on. After a night of drinking or even working, us singaporeans head for supper (some roti john and more) at prata shops that are open through the night.
When Mike swears at 5:10 and the editor puts in a lion roar. That one. That one won it for me.
Mike is the most adorable thing: Having to look down really far to be able to see what he's doing, singing songs from the little mermaid, and generally wearing the silliest (albeit inspired!) costume ever ^_^
I'm not sure what he was singing there, too much racket from the others lol!
The hole in the back is hilarious
@Bystander232 That is totally the lion king xx
When Mike isn't cooking, he spends his time buying products to marinate his soft and smooth, pampered skin..
His hobbies include polishing sea shells, turning them into bras.
His bffs are Ariel and Simba.
This comment wins the internet 😂
Kudos to whoever edited this. You win.
YES!! anyone know who edited it ?
YES!! anyone know who edited it ?
Sophia Bell they have an editing team
Mayasounds I
I do believe the one who edited this was Rachel, she’s the one who translated Barry when he started mumbling lmao
Thank you Sorted for representing Singapore! Loving all the emblems and props the guys are wearing, its hilarious!! Also loving how they are trying to be as authentic as they can in their recipes :))
when mike walked in, I didn't even care anymore what he made. He already deserved to win.
Hello laddies, Singaporean here. Really appreciate the thought that goes into this week's theme! Just my 2 cents here
1) Really good attempt for Jamie's take on Roti John! Personally I felt it was a strategic choice to leverage upon your knowledge of sandwiches/ bahnmi & recreate it into a Roti John. That Singapore Sling joke is pretty good too :)

Love a good Hokkien mee too! And Tiong Bahru's Shui Kueh is the best! 😋
RIP the editor. They had to work so hard on fixing their mistakes 😂😂
As a Singaporean I'm really touched by this dedication to Singapore ❤️ LOVE YOU SORTED FOOD!!!!
1. Barry's laksa is almost 100% authentic. Thank you so much!! ☺️
2. Roti john was done well! Although some versions coats the sandwich with a beaten egg and then pan fry it. Like a french toast. Try it! If not, it needs some EGGS in it 🍳
3. Good attempt at the satay. although as a Singaporean Chinese, pork satay is still the best :) and it really needs to be cooked over a charcoal grill and the sauce is a little too pale

oh damn, but pork satay is damn good.. i normally eat from chinese satay vendors
Sayuri Kinomoto and then there are the weirdos like me who prefer lamb satay >_>
"Are you gonna make the cocktail?"
"No"
"Well what the f-*ROAR* is the point of that, then??"
xD!!!! I'm dying!!
I have SO MUCH appreciation for this Singapore week, although I'm Malaysian, the amount of community contribution and authenticity that you have tried your best to replicate makes me happy
i fell the moment i saw mike's merlion outfit cause i wasn't watching where i was going 😂😂
#REPRESENTSINGAPORE
Nurul Aini Ahmad that's an accurate representation of our merlion 😂
Nurul Aini Ahmad IKR creativity at it's finest, what a Merlion!
Hahaha. That merlion outfit thou. 😂😂😂 btw..2019 anyone?
I'm never going to look at the Merlion the same way again.. Oh goodness Mike 😂😂😂
1:02 I didn't expect that from Barry!!
1:21 I STAND CORRECTED!!!
Posting from Canberra, Australia. I made Jamie's Roti John yesterday - more than four years after this video. It was delicious and we loved it! The only thing is, next time I chop a green chilli, I will wear gloves because my fingertips were burning for hours afterwards!! :D
I'm also in Canberra, and watching this video 5 years later!
The only way MIke would have looked more majestic is sitting on a rock in the ocean, wind blowing through his mane, singing "Part of Your World"
just a tip when making Roti John.
Instead of putting the egg on the bagguette. its better to pour the egg on the pan THEN putthe bread on top of the egg.
nonetheless good job in representing this small nation we call home. Thank you for acknowledging the cultural diversity here!

whoever is editing this video bless you for working hard and correcting all their mistakes HAHAHHA
I'm singaporean.... and I should have gotten it... but am I the only one who genuinely thought Jamie was injured?...
AMakesmesmile no, cuz noone fucking drinks the Singapore Sling 😂
it makes the video better when you figure out he isn't lol
you got a laugh from me
I never knew it was a drink. I thought that it was a really bizzare reference to the Singapore F1 corner that launched cars!
@@PancakezXD only tourists drink it
MIKE'S MERLION COSTUME WAS ON POINT 👌
(but i'm sorry, that satay sauce looks wrong on so many levels but I'm guessing it tastes great)
How is it I’ve never heard of this channel ?? I’ve gone crazy for the last 3 days watching this show ... the chemistry you guys have is perfect and it seems to really work great in screen ... keep up the good work because this show is one of my favorites on RUclips
I felt bad for Jamie thinking he hurt his arm. then I realised he was a Singapore sling
As a Singaporean, I'm so happy that you guys decided to do a video dedicated to my country. I've been living here in the UK for a while now, and while it took a while to get used to things, it's because of people like you guys, who are willing to explore and find out things beyond what you already know, that made settling in so much easier. You mean you're making cupcakes?

why did I click on that 10 times to check... I'm ashamed of myself.
fucking spoiler.
atleast put some spoiler alert warning
I appreciate the sass that was put into editing the video.
Mike's costume had me rolling and crying. The way Jamie looked at him when he was telling him off literally pushed me over the edge.

@Jenny Rose I live in Scotland, so quite a few 'ang mohs' around me haha!
Yet another reason to love Mike!!!😂 As if he kept that head on while cooking!!!
I don't understand how SORTEDfood don't have more than 1 million subs... it blows my mind
The editing in this episode is top notch. Snaps to whoever added all the cheeky comments.
Also, dying anytime Mike had to look at something while wearing the lions head.
I just cannot take Mike and his dish seriously in this video... borderline weird but definitely hilarious!!
I honestly just love mike and all his adorable silliness! plus bonus brownie points for singing the little mermaid! Good job on the battle boys!
Mike should *never* hide his best feature #NipplesOfSteel
Hahahaha the "(ffs)" at 10:18 cause Jamie is a goose. Gave me a good laugh :D
Maybe I'm biased, but you guys look like you were having SO much fun with this theme and it really makes me so happy, it warms my heart :-) SG x SORTED

I should be revising what am I doing with my life
Aidyn H learning life skills
Caoimhe Walsh best justification for procrastination ever
Aidyn H same I should be studying right now but you know😂
You are doing something more important
Same thing I am, cheers bro xD
3 years later... and hearing them (Ben mainly) lose it after seeing Mike's costume is still one of the funniest moments ever
I AM FROM SINGAPORE OMG AND I AM SO HAPPY

P.S. LOVE the costumes!
"I put the lime in the stock-you-nut, and hrmmmgbbbrllm" - Barry, probably.
Props to Baz for going so far as to paint his teeth white to go along with his costume. That's a whole new level of commitment.
At least you guys didn't say we're from China. Thumbs up la guys.
man laksa is REALLY hard to make so I was surprised that it was Barry who attempted it, you get my vote! this makes me so happy. thank you for doing this. A for effort for Mike's costume too.
i don't know who edited this and added all those comments but THANK YOU
Oh my goodness! Mike saying "I want my heaven" while cupping his chest like that, is both hilarious and worrying 😅

Dinosaur we ought to bring up this topic again hahaha
Thank you! Appreciate the shout out you guys are making to Singapore
Love the editor
I have to tell you guys that, after watching your videos from the oldest, and I’m still binging them after 6, or 7 weeks, to less old, I have asked my now good buddy ChatGPT for the recipes for curry powder, and Chinese 5 spice, and have made them both. You should try to stay more pawsitive
It will help keep you...feline good
That way you can....live long and pawspur
At least now you can have a great career on mewtube
Now that you have finally come out as a....mewmaid
Brownie point for Mike that is the best costume yet for an ultimate battle. Another brownie point for whoever edited the video. I never get bored watching SORTED videos!
Guys for real, I had no idea what Barry was making until I saw the poll on the i above. His pronunciation of Laksa is so wierd😂😂. (Lahk-sah)Barry....
Strangely turned on by Mike's outfit.
I'm sold on the dish with the shrimp that still had the head on! That had to be epic flavor! I loved Mike's costume though!
Barry & his little mistakes 😂😁
9:56 Sry if i'm mistaken but I don't know a single satay store that actually counts the sticks after consumption....
If its counting sticks, then deducing the price that would be like hot pot/steam boat
clam shell bras are so hot right now.
Bang on trend right?! We're thinking about selling them on our merch store.
SORTEDfood if u do that I'll buy 69
1:18. I'm gonna show this to my future kids, and tell them that this is Ariel.
the satay sauce looks so wrong...
because they don't add kecap (sweet soy sauce) in it
It's his version
currently watching while eating some satay. yes it looks so wrong and i don't know about you but my (indonesian satay) sauce is a bit crunchy no smooth.
IKR XD but the laksa looks wrong too. why is everything so pale brown in both the laksa and peanut sauce? hahaha
don't forget we have peanut bits in our satay sauce + it tastes better 'cause of kecap manis (sweet black soy sauce) DON'T FORGET US SOUTH ASIANS IN THE WORLD
The editing in this video was fierce, I love it!
7:50 Ah forgot the sambal
i saw this and I WAS SO EXCITED OMG THANK YOU i feel the love as a singaporean
I can't believe they all wore something related to singapore, how patriotic
(and hilarious)
edit: now that i'm thinking abt it, they could've sung the national anthem to be more patriotic
lifeisstrangeart They dress up in most of their food battles
I'm Singaporean and the MIKE THE MERLION is gold!!! Love it
Being serious, Mike looked really good in his costume.
It’s such a pleasure to watch these guys.
You guys should do nuts as your theme imagine homemade Nutella
I actually truly love that he went with the Roti John because it's a local delicacy that's often overlooked by foreigners or tourists when they think about Singaporean food. Everybody always goes for the chili crab, which I've personally had only once in my lifetime here as a 22 year old true blue native Singaporean. The Roti John on the other hand is a staple of our night markets and food bazaars and is widely enjoyed all the time! Kudos for that, eh!
hold up, did Mike use one of his beloved cardigans as a merlion tail??
Cath Manuel i thought it was a cheap dress folded down! 😂 must say very creative
Love this channel, don’t subscribe to much but 3 vids in, SORTED!
Quick thing I wanted to share:
You guys should chuck all of the box weeks into playlists, like the Singapore week videos where we can watch them straight through.
please make next week's theme Arabic
Ben's got it spot on. After a night of drinking or even working, us singaporeans head for supper (some roti john and more) at prata shops that are open through the night.
The lion guy wins.
