this is by far the best song on his new cd, love the jazz funk along with the modern hip hop sort of sound, I just wish Marcus solo was longer, but that keyboardist solo is smokin nasty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Marcus. Mr Bailey. Incredible. I knew Brett Williams was coming. I knew it when he did a George Duke and Joe Sample solo tribute with Marcus Miller. The violence and the nuance on the keyboard was just out of this world. Keep doing it young man. We are listening.
I planned on attending the 2021 Seabreeze Jazz fest in Panama City FL however, once Marcus Miller and Brian Culbertson pulled out, it was a WRAP for me! No disrespect to all the very talented musicians that are performing!!!!!!
Team Alex Bailey This Was Amazing!!! I Saw UR Performance Last Night At NJPAC Newark, NJ & U Guyz FLAT OUT KILLED IT!!! Me & My Son R Both Drummers & We Were Blown Away By All UR Finesse Work On The Cymbals!!! U Played UR Ride Cymbal With Incredible Touch & Precision & It Sounded Great 2 Us Out Front!!! We Marveled How Well U Handled The Complex Groove Of "People Make The World Go Round" & Just UR All Around Performance!!! We Know Sitting In The Drum Chair 4 Marcus Already Says UR Somebody 2 Be Reckoned With!!! However Cyin' U Live Was Oustanding & KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!!
Hey man, sorry for my delay in responding, but I just want to say I really appreciate the compliment! We always enjoy working with Lalah, especially with that tune. Hopefully we can record a newer version of it. Wishful thinking, haha! Thanks man!
Hello Alex Bailey! Question: Is there a click running through your ears? Sometimes, it seems you are adjusting something we can't see in this clip (1:37). Is it volume, tempo setting? Thank you and "bravo" for this amazing performance.
Pierre Corneau Hey, thanks for watching! I’m doing a host of things with the SPD, approaching it almost as a DJ. I do have the click going directly to a mixer I use as my monitoring system. On this particular track, i actually use some of the different effects on the SPD to spice up the song!
Thanks for checking out the video. No double pedal on this one. I programmed the SPD pretty close to the loop from the record which has a couple tricky bass drum patterns in it. Instead of taking it out, I decided to include which gave it somewhat of a 'double kick' feel.
Hi, @groovix6453. I apologize I didn't reply to this comment yet, but wanted to do so now. This snare drum was a Mapex Saturn 5.5x14, I believe a Saturn III generation. It was outfitted with Die Cast hoops (instead of the triple flanged hoops, or Sonic Saver hoops they come with now). Those hoops really focused the sound, so you hear very little overtones and made it really great for this song and that show in particular. Thanks again for checking out the video (so long ago, haha)! Stay tuned, lots of content coming out very soon!
Thanks so much! Marciac was the last show of the run, and we definitely had a blast! Unfortunately, I don't have any footage of the end of the show with Cory and Adam. My camera died right before they came on, so I'm a little bummed about that. But we run into Cory and the crew a couple of times every year, and they always sit in, so hopefully I can catch them again this year! But we will be doing some shows later this year with Belgian singing sensation, Selah Sue, and I'm gonna get some great videos of that. Stay tuned for a lot of new stuff, and thanks for coming to the show!
TeamAlexBailey thank you Alex. Could you please ask around you if someone has a clear-sound footage. I got mine but it's nuts loool. Thanks again for taking the time.
Hey man, thanks for watching!, and thank you for the kind words. It definitely has its challenges, especially considering how many different things I trigger for different songs. But I basically practice the 'choreography' of playing and triggering different samples. And I do it until it's second nature. Also, I sequence all of the samples before I load them into the SPD, so for vocal samples, I sequence them on various beats to make sure I can trigger them in time, and still hit the downbeats. Thanks for the question, and please stay tuned for more videos!
This is my new Marcus Miller favorite!!!
Marcus Miller is a BEAST!!! The Brother on the DRUMS is NICE TOO!!! LAYING IT DOWN
Can't enough of the drummer's excellence.
Nothing like having a great punchy/tight drummer. Sounds amazing. The snare tuning is sweet.
This is amazing the rhythm is smooth, jazzy some high-class street music! I am all in. Real nice work Alex and Marcus.
this is by far the best song on his new cd, love the jazz funk along with the modern hip hop sort of sound, I just wish Marcus solo was longer, but that keyboardist solo is smokin nasty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think this fits the R&B genre better than the hiphop genre. Nonetheless a great song by great musicians.

GROOVE Deluxe funky & Tasty.Cool indeed.
Are you using double or triple bass pedals lol for this song? I love the roll effect during it. Or is that in the SPD

Which snare is it Alex please?? It sounds amazing i love your drumming man

Thanks Alex!! 💪😎
Hey Alex ! Huge performance in Marciac. Loved the show. Do you have footage of the collaboration with Cory in the end ?
Keep it up champ !

I will! There have been a few videos popping up on RUclips as well, so keep an eye out!
Amazing pocket and groove. Question; how difficult is it to keep the time and make adjustments on the SPD?
Hey man, thanks for watching!, and thank you for the kind words.
