Great job. I have watched many tutorials and yours really stand out! Straight to the point and informative. Please do get carried away with the extras above beginner info! I like the music!
Great tutorial. I've been using iParts for several years (actually I'm the only one at my office who knows how to create them) but you've shown that there is even more to do with them. Thanks so much!
Was hoping to find out how to specifically make a custom iPart vs. Standard. will look for more videos from you because YOU ARE THE BEST, BY FAR. thank you!
Hey mate, bloody good lessons. This is my first one I have seen so far, hope you have many things on Inventor. I love teaching like this because I get it!! :) Thanks very much...
Hi, was there an updated version of this tutorial? Would be great to know if what was the improvement in Inventor up to this date with referring to creating an iParts. Thanks!
Nice tutorial brother i just want to ask you wNice tutorialch software is easy and best to learn as DAW soft soft or abelton live. Pls reply as soon as you can
great job! it is pretty straightforward and useful. The only comment I have is that the music volume was a little too high and in some parts it would make it a little harder to understand what you were saying.
First of all, great tutorial! Now I would love to know how iParts function with Vault. How do you update the derivative files created, do you have to check them all out before you update the master? How does that work? I'd love to get help understanding that!
Thankyou for actually explaining tNice tutorialngs. Other videos that I watched started talking about how to make soft and didn't ntion anytNice tutorialng
Great tutorial. I agree with the compliments from the others. I'm looking for a way in an assembly with 2 instances of a part to have one instance one configuration and the other one a different configuration. I think it has something to do with standard versus custom but can't seem to get this to work. Thanks.
I noticed you are an Autodesk certified professional :) I am taking the professional exam while I am in Las Vegas for AU this year and while I have been studying an Inventor 2017 student guide, I am still a little weary about what I am going to be facing. Correct me if I'm wrong, I believe I am going to be tasked with using the software to create something specific to an industry, along with some test questions. Is that accurate? I can't seem to find much help online, everything I've read just seems to disparage the exam and claim that it's not really worth taking. What do you think? What was your experience like?
Your tutorials are awesome!, super clear, precise and to the point, good job.........but here's one for I'd like to know if you can help me with:I created parts in inventor, I am exporting to dwg........when I open them in AutoCAD they orientate differently and I have to perform a 3D rotate, this is a pain when I have in excess of 100 dwg's to re-orientate, can you advise on how to get the inventor model to position identical once exported to AutoCAD.....please????
Loved the iParts video. Learned a lot. I created a 1 5/8" wide Unistrut iPart with 11 variations as an experiment. Worked great. I made the Length a custom parameter so I could change that as I place it in an assembly. However, what I would really like is for this iPart to be a starting point for creating a separate part file that I can then edit, i.e. put end treatments and holes in etc. Is there a way to save a placed iPart as standard .ipt? Or, is there another way of generating a file similar to the Content Center structural shapes?
People (Inventor users) have been trying to scare me away from using iparts. I'm a long time pro-e user and have used family tables for(ever) a long time. What is the fatal flaw with iParts that make them so different from pro-e? (Or simply what makes people freak out about them?) If you have other videos...I haven't look yet...but feel free to point me in that direction. This was very well done. Thank you..Andy
+Andy Hessler I've never used Pro-E so I've no idea what the comparisons are, the only negatives I've heard with iParts is when people try and use them with Autodesk Vault as that can end in a bad time if not done right. Other than that, as far as I know there's no inherent problems with them
+TFI CAD Tips Thank you. Managing the generic and instances is always delicate. It doesn't matter what system you're working in. I found that TeamCenter (Siemens) linked with Pro-e was a very challenging set-up. I'm not sure if it's always a bad pairing or if the company I was with implemented it poorly. However, it's pretty clear that when permissions (access to work on parts) get dispersed across multiple business units...things are going to get messy. I think from your video I can reasonably say that the iParts do seem to work well when used to drive family tables of similar parts (usually hardware related). My next concern is to understand how best to manage the "background" geometry that gets used with larger assemblies. In pro-e, the technique most preferred was to create (at a minimum) a generic and one instance. In the generic model...all of the background geometry would be suppressed. In the single instance in the (iParts) family table, the background geometry would be unsuppressed (active). The drawing would be driven from the instance. Thus, when the model would be assembled to a higher level assembly, the generic would be the default selection and the background geometry (map parts, skeletons, copy geometry) would not be brought along for the ride. At each company I've worked for, this data is poorly managed and neglected...which leads to people complaining about slow response times on their computers. So, the goal...at my new gig, is to try to pick up where I left of instructing people on best practices. (I just have to figure out what those practices are first %^) )-Thanks.
Hey nice video you have made... Same ways can you make one complete video on ipart creating names on model tree and appearance or assigning colour for with names..... Ex:- Cable tray color Power=Red color Instrumentation=Dark blue colour. Thank if made it.
Hi TFI, Really great tutorial on iParts. Got me up and running with a simple assembly made up of a couple of sub-assemblies. Settling upon configuration that best suits my needs I have gone on to pull together a suite of drawings featuring a bill of materials parts list. It would be helpful if I could send you a couple of screenshots. I have enabled structure and parts only in the sub-assemblies, however, when I try to do the same in the top-level assembly parts only does not present itself. I'm not sure if this is causing my problem when I get to including the parts list in my drawing. In my drawing no matter what I do I cannot get my parts list to show all the parts in the top-level parts list. Have you any tips to help you show all the parts in the top-level list? Kindest regards, Derek.
is iPart only good for parts that have only a couple of variations? What about if there is an impossibly huge number of potential combinations of dimensions?
how do you change the version of the ipart once you already added them to an assembly? I tried to double click the other versions, or right click the table/versions, but nothing happens, it wont switch versions
Hi Neil is it possible to have a i assembly eg a six sided box that could be manipulated in a similar method as in i parts to produce different variants all in one go . I hope that makes sense thanks for the really useful tutorials keep em coming its driving the wife Crackers .
Hi, thanks for the great instruction video. I have tried it and it worked perfectly. I have also tried to do this on an assembly that is based on 1 main part with 2 different parts who are linked to the main part. There dimension is based on the main part in this situation. I made the main part an Ipart and replaced the Ipart into the assembly. Then I made the assembly an Iassembly. It gave me the correct chooses to select different dimensions from the main part, but the other 2 parts in the assembly will not update because they are still linked to the original main part. Is there a solution for this? Best regards, Richard
Hey mate, really good video! Is there a way, that when I place it into an assembly, that I can edit the pre-given dimensions? So I can change the parameters freely? Thank you
Is there a way to include tolerances that change depending on the derivative? e.g As L(+.5/-0) increases I'd like to be able to change the tolerance for specific derivatives, not keep the master tolerances throughout.
Great Video Mate thanks for that ! I'm struggling with something on my level 2 course though ! I have to create a plug socket with one plug hole then make it an ipart which changes to a 2 then 4 plug socket. I can do this easy enough but then theres 2 things that don't seem right......once I've finished them I physically have to click on my plug socket TOP part then click on which instance I want to see e.g SocketNum 2 then click on return to the full assembly and my tutor tells me I shouldn't need to do this ? secondly I have to press the update button in order for the BASE of this plug socket which is its own part to update accordingly, I kind of understand the whole ipart thing but I think I've got a bit of a sketchy way of doing it ATM. Could you do a video for creating an ipart that also has another part attached to it that will automatically update please ?
How can I add a QR code or something that will help me find my part file if I beleive that it was misplaced or "worse". Thank you. And, do you take on projects to help design an invention ?

Do you have a tutorial / presentation on utilizing IParts / ICopy for assemblies such as say a custom Door which changes leaf size, width x height?
Thank you. TNice tutorials is really helpful. Much respect
And the background music is awesome!!
Thank you so much for making stuff in soft a lot easier to understand.
Great video - clear and practical - thanks!
