Fighting the good fight, they are really dangerous animals, no one blames you for defending yourself.
I'm not the only one to get bit by a monkey!!! I'm in SE Florida and was pet sitting a friends house...sitting by the pool with a nice glass of wine when 3 spider monkeys attacked me for NO REASON!!! Those monkeys were on the small side compared to the Macaque's but they can bite...I got bit in the right shoulder, the only positive was that I had an animal hospital and every few years I got vaccinated for pre-exposure...I lucked out that I had gotten vaccinated just under a year from the bites so I only had to get 3 of the vaccines and holy sh*t did they hurt, was put on 2 weeks antibiotics and I got a tetanus shot which hurts but nothing like those rabies ugh....I hope you're on the mend Riley...it's okay to have PTSD, I still have it from a horrific car accident 6/23/08...but those monkeys that got you were frightening!!! Sending you healing light x
I can not comprehend that @30 people have audacity to watch Riley trying to keep kids safe, and DO NOT HELP HIM...or at least to fistract those monkeys( they are used to people giving them food and they obviously are aggresive)
What's even worse- those folks have audacity to take a tiktok video etc!!!
How inhumane, my God!
I pray for your safety, guys and for Riley not to have serious side effects after all those injections.
Buckling swash on the high seas, monkey style.
@@aquariusgm2371 We live in such an apathetic society...so very sad that humans can't take care of their own...did you see those monkeys 'working' together...sick
Interesting world we live in today. 1) a parent saying "My kids are screaming and could not swim to the beach..." While taking a moment to film and not swim to the situation; 2) a bunch of people also filming on their phones rather than helping.
100% true. People are doing everything to collect clicks.
That's what I thought too!
En même temps arrivée en bande n'aurait fait qu'exciter encore un peu plus les singes... Et avec le comportement que l'homme à eux c'est bel et bien de sa faute s'il attaque a eu lieu.
LUDIA SU ODPORNI su vynimky ale len jednotlivci
A valuable lesson learnt about respecting the wildlife and their space...
Thanks. it's a nicer way than saying these people were invaders
Why are people upset with the strangers not jumping in to help? The fathers friend, who is recording the whole thing, wasn’t helping, so they all figured help wasn’t needed.
Good point. I hadn't thought about it like that.
True
Not only that it’s a stranger and They’d put themselves at risk of rabies. Riley is a grown man and so was there guy holding a camera no help was needed obviously if it got worse people might have helped but it didn’t
People are upset because this has become the current culture. More emphasis and priority is on social media likes instead of human life. There were freaking toddlers in danger of being harmed or killed and none of the 20 something people witnessing it did a darn thing,..including the cameraman. They could have yelled or thrown rocks or clumps of sand to distract the monkeys but instead they passively stood by and did nothing because thier loved ones weren't the ones in danger...Had they been attacked I bet they would have yelled for help and I'm sure Riley would have done what he could to help the strangers....It's all about character or in this case,..the lack thereof,..
That's exactly what's wrong with everyone in the world today. They'd rather stand there with their cameras and watch you die
She really narrated her own arrival and swim towards her screaming and endangered children
And swam slower to record herself swimming....... sometimes i really think those kids are not really theirs but adopted....
Videos are more important..
Darwin's "Aww" when the lizard ran away was precious!
Makes me want to cry when I watch that part 🥲 so so sweet
Love water monitors.
I was so happy the scary monkeys didn’t make Darwin shy away from the big lizard too! ❤
Besides the monkey situation did anyone notice the cinematography in this episode? This episode was so beautiful holy moly... Great work guys
Yes I noticed. Beautiful camera work and editing❤❤❤
Yes I did they are getting better and better!
Without a doubt. B roll improvements helped massively too.

its wild that everyone just pulled out the phone and just recorded . that's crazy society really is going down hill at this point
Every father needs to do this for their family! Well done!
Protecting the family unit is the father's responsibility... Mad respect!
Well said. Even you're aren't part of the family. You should get involved too. It's a life saving right there. I won't watch and get involve right away.
i don't understand for the life of me why you would allow your child to walk up to wild monkeys or heck why anybody would walk to them
Your lack of understanding is the perfect example of why you are sitting in Detroit watching videos of this wonderful family Sailing the world!
@@jimdingman4033 I'm a parent that's all I know that most monkeys are dangerous and I would not let me child neat or let them go in an area where they are. I get this was crazy and unexpected.. Just fyi Im a boater and I've been many many many places sorry don't talk about what you don't understand or know
@@jimdingman4033🤡
Ok so I watched the video, key part, it does not appear to me that the father let the children just walk up to the monkeys it appears the monkeys just became aggressive probably bc of fear I would say, Try watching the video before criticizing the parents
@@jimdingman4033 first of all at the time of this comment I was in Japan today I'm in China, a week ago it was Fiji.. I've seen these monkeys and others around the world... I see what's going on here and fully understand what's happening.
I’ve worried about this for two weeks! Thank you for finally giving us the full story. How horrifying ! I’m glad Riley will be ok. So sad he has to go through the treatment but thankful it wasn’t Darwin.
Same my gosh
Rabies fortunately has a good effective though painful treatment regimen as Riley found out the hard way however the Macacine Herpesvirus 1 really doesn't aside from valacyclovir or acyclovir if risk is assessed with no detectible virus present or intravenous acyclovir or ganciclovir if it has been detected however once it blossoms in the nervous system most die despite treatment so this has been the one concerning me the past few weeks since it undetectably can lodge itself into the spinal cord and stay dormant for years. CDC advises you even after successful treatment to carry a medial alert listing the potential exposure to Macacine Herpesvirus 1 and to be sure to tell your medical practitioners about your potential exposure. Thankfully none of the little ones were scratched or bitten as they would be potentially carrying the Macacine Herpesvirus 1 around for a much longer time than Riley plus having it flair up in their developing years could be much more severe. COVID has taught us how devastating Zoonotic diseases/infections can be.
Best protection against this per CDC is "Visitors to parks and other tourist destinations (such as certain religious temples) with free-roaming macaques should avoid contact with these animals (including feeding or petting them)."
Where I live we have water born flesh eating bacteria, brain eating amoeba, MRSA infections from things as simple as an insect bite, etc, etc all of which have taken way too many young, vibrant, healthy associates from us over the past few years so I've learned from these losses to be much more careful then I have been in the past.
Be careful out there especially in warm humid tropical environments.
Best!
So maybe i am too european and I am not sure if they are dumb or me.....she hears her kid is attacked by monkeys and she starts filming her self swimming with one hand .Also the cameraman films her husband defending the bag/kid instead of stepping in and helping and all is for the views....
Nah your right the cameraman should’ve put the camera down and could’ve at least tried to help. And the mother should’ve used both hands to swim and not record at all.
Nothing to do with being too European, you just have a brain you actual using.
It's ridiculous the fact that you think it's the monkey's fault if 1) you left your stuff unattended on the rocks, 2)with your kid loose on a beach where wild animals live and 3)are accustomed to playing aggressive games with tourists (I steal your bag, you give me food). I've been there, cmon man you have been the real danger with your unpreparedness.
Agreed!
Spot on!

Totally agree, they really put their heart and soul into these movies!
I was attacked by monkeys on this very beach 10 years ago and whenever I tell the story people laugh at me for the fact I ran back into the sea and kayaked away so seeing this has actually really helped validate how terrifying it was. You guys did good. Those fangs are something else and they stay with you. Also not going to lie, I can’t stand monkeys after experiencing this.
Was there about 15 years ago and some guys were chased down the beach by a horde of monkeys.. evil little things..
Yeah, once a monkey has dropped from a tree on Phi Phi to grab your glasses - no way - they're creepy. Cant stand them now.
I am so sorry that this happened to you! I completely understand how frightening and overwhelming being threatened is. I will vouch that Riley is a very nice man, who only occasionally punches monkeys on an as-needed basis 🙈 Glad you’re okay!
Riley is the first person racist against another ape species LOL
Maybe the the monkeys work for the medical clinic in town. Two patients per day coming in for monkey bites, at I'll guess $150 per visit, works out to $9000/month, or more than $100k/year.
@@DHD- im so curious how much they spent on the rabies shots, in bali theres a scam going in the monkey tourist spot where the hospital is billing many tourists 2-$4000 per shot.
Lol I forgot about the pig incident. Riley is fearless.
Protecting your kid is definitely one of those times!😅
It’s crazy just listening to in intro… somewhere 3 years turned to 9, and I’m so grateful you guys chose to bring al, of us along for the ride. Thank you for making such honest and real content that attracts everyone, even if they have never sailed before. ❤❤❤
"I could not swim to the beach faster." She paused to say, holding the camera, making sure to get a shot of herself swimming. After all, her kids were screaming on the beach, gotta capture that.
Her children were with their dad and 2 other trusted adults. Clearly if she thought monkeys were attacking or if one of the adults were shouting come quick she would have dropped the camera. You people need to chill.
I’m truly relieved it all worked out. Great job protecting your family Riley, seriously!
Riley, You did what you needed to do!! Great job for keeping your kids safe on your adventures 👍
You friend was just the same as all of the other onlookers who were more intent in filming things for "content" than actually helping you. But this is the problem with our world's society these days; it is more important to document something on one's phone or camera for social media than it is to help out a fellow human.
Same as the Mom. She (Elaina)was filming her return to the beach while her children were screaming.
@@tracireynolds5350 ...and "couldn't swim faster..." - put the camera away and use two arms. Studies have shown you swim faster with two arms than one.
to be fair this is how they make a living and thats the filmers job
Having seen these monkeys attack vehicles in animal parks. I shudder to see how close they were to a catastrophe. I’m having second thoughts about my fascination with this . Been a fan for years but now I fear for the children and I’m not sure I want to contribute to tragedy. I fail to see any humour here. So sorry.
@@brkinwrx6200 so why criticize the rest of the 'social influencers' doing the same thing. And where does getting something on film trump helping another person, especially someone so close to you?

Exactly and then in the next scene she’s swimming with one arm so she can hold the camera. Seems you and I are the only ones that noticed the camera had priority over her kids.

It was great for Riley to talk about the troubles sleeping. After a traumatic event especially one involving your children, you can have some lasting effects if not recognized early. And don’t feel bad for passing out, I’ve seen mountain size men do the same as well a I myself. Sending positive vibes and thoughts as you continue on your journey. Good luck with the rest of your shots.

Such a peaceful, dreamy, 'it's all going to be okay' edit to close on the telling of a really traumatic experience. Thankyou for restoring the calm after the stressful viewing experience haha. So glad you're all okay! - Bon
Wild animals are unpredictable and you should always keep your distance from them especially children. Glad you are all okay.
💯
Exactly.
Glad everyone is ok but seriously- wild animals are unpredictable and rightly so - safety first always- you were fortunate- could have been wirse
Take a look from the opposite sight. A lot of white, hairless and large monkies try to conquer their territory.
Typical Farang 😊😊😊
Honestly, I've had occasional freaked-out thoughts about this ever since seeing it. My 3 boys are all grown but I can imagine the terror of the moment. I know you are extremely grateful that you can tell this story with some rabies shots as the only consequence.
Riley & the boys' eyes are absolutely STUNNING!
OMG... They're fricken wild animals, NEVER PUT YOUR CHILD CLOSE TO A WILD ANIMAL!! THEY'RE NOT PETS!!
💕💞🙏🏻💞💕
The situation was traumatic for sure! One thing I was puzzled about. "I hear my kids screaming and feel like there is something wrong. But wait, I have to film myself saying this before I head back and then hold the GoPro in my hand while I swim so I can only use one arm to stroke." I'm sure there are others down in the comments who noticed the same. 🤔
I doubt that she thought it was anything as serious as what it was. Why would she?
Exactly what I was thinking. Kids/people + screaming= camera being thrown into the water and me swimming my behind off to see what's wrong. Messed up how social media creators act these days. Glad to see him fight back though and protect the kids.

What a beautiful family.😀 . Good job Dad . Looking out for your boys . Its a pity nobody offered to help, just stood by watching. Hope this experience doesn't haunt you for long. God Bless 😘
The entitlement, ignorance and stupidity of these irresponsible parents. Putting there children in danger, encroaching on wildlife then making humour of it. These are the kind of stupid people you see on the news, who would be crying there eyes out saying the monkey attacked and fatally injured their child and the attack “came out of nowhere”. 🙄
Glad you are all okay!! I’m a wildlife biologist and I understand the importance of your items but human wildlife interactions don’t always end well. Even though it’s a tourist area where people try to attract the animals they are wild animals and should be given space. It’s different in this situation but lack of caution and preventive measures around wild animals causes many individuals of other species to be euthanized. It’s so important to be cautious around wildlife especially if they’re territorial species and you’re in their territory.
Literally came looking through the comments for someone to say this

Why would you even be that close to wild animals to begin with?? Especially with Children. I've seen so many gullible foreigners visiting Thailand who left with a very rude awakening.

Those people had zero responsibility to help this lot get their phones back. He carried his own child towards those monkeys. Take some responsibility rather than immediately looking to the others on the beach as wrong. Before he went after that bag they were already safe from danger. That they thought this was a reasonable video to put online after editing and having some time to consider the event blows my mind. Unbelievable.
When you go there the tour guides tell you not to take anything but your phone onto the beach and to leave everything on the boat because the monkeys will think it's food and be very aggressive! They emphasize this so much

I had the same-ish experience in penang, Malaysia. We hiked through a path in the jungle that was fairly popular but not crowded. On the way to the beach on the hike we encountered the monkeys. They were very friendly and acted relaxed. So we had great fun. When chilling at the beach we already heard them scream. But we had to get back as the sun started setting. On the way back their vibe drastically changed. They were sitting on the bridges and stairs so we had to pass them very closely. They leashed out, screamed and tried to bite us. We tried to walk as fast as we could to not try to aggravate them more by running. It was terrifying. Also hearing them run with us in the trees next to us. When things calmed down we encountered another group heading to the monkeys. They wore slippers and bathing suits (bit of an odd choice for a hike in the jungle) and warned them for the monkeys. But they shrugged it off and kept going. We later heard them scream. We sent park personnel to their direction. Not sure how that ended for them. But it was a truely terrifying experience.
happened the same at the exact spot, around 6 months ago :)

OMG! I would be freaking out of this happened to me. There's nothing like a parent's instinct! I'm so glad things worked out in the end!
It is clear that people in general underestimate the power of some animals. I remember that a cousin of mine (a classical dancer) had a tamed "marmoset" monkey (2 kg.). One afternoon, while she was sleeping, he came into the room, climbed onto the bed and started biting her while she tried to defend herself. He ended up in the hospital, in a coma due to blood loss.
The Monkey Island Episode. It was great! Riley is a badass. No fear. I appreciate that you were only using the amount of force necessary to deter the monkeys. I'm sure they are tough. You were very brave too Elayna 😊 Great episode. Thank you!
I'm sorry that the kid's and Riley were traumatized that way, but I am so proud, amazed, and humbled by Riley on his quick action getting the kid's safe and protecting his family the way he did.
And why would he allow his young children be so close to an obviously developing dangerous situation?! Screw the personal belongings the damn animal was close to grabbing a child! Seems dad was more interested in an exciting RUclips show with his bravely fighting vicious monkeys. That child was close to being taken into the woods. Priorities
Happy you are fine. Those monks are super territorial and you are a brave Dad! Primates at their finest. ❤❤❤❤
Riley put his kids in danger. Monkeys are doing what monkeys do. Why would people step in to help a troglodyte who is endangering themselves and their kids to a monkey nip and possible infections?
This video speaks to the importance of researching the areas that you will be visiting while on vacation.
Yeah this couple isn't really the "research" type. It's going to wind up getting them seriously hurt one day.

What an insane episode! I’m glad Riley is okay. I hope he heals fully. This was definitely eye opening!
No, it was not eye opening, for sure. Eye opening was suppose to be message/reports about those hostile monkeys.
Its insane that the rest of the humans just watching and do nothing to protect their own kind.
what is insane? monkeys?
My kids potentially getting attacked by a monkey, I can hear them screaming. Let me just take a selfie video of me trying to swim back to the beach to help them...
No mentioned how beautiful the underwater photography is!! Good job.
fact 1, Monkeys are wild creatures and are not scared of humans, fact 2 you are in their territory and they will defend it, Note, don't have have small children around monkeys they are not there to play with.
Hey Riles, good to see you light up and get yr Dad on, totally impressed mate, in this modern world most people as you found out, just stand and gawk when action is required .... so proud of you.
Monkeys are hectic! Go Riley! That was epic! Must have been a terrifying swim Elayna. You are both amazing parents, giving your kids the best adventures in nature 💙
But had the time to talk to the camera before getting to her screaming kids
