    Today, I am blessed to have here with me Dr. Richard Johnson. He is a professor of medicine at the University of Colorado and is a clinician, educator, and researcher. He is board-certified in internal medicine, infectious diseases, and kidney disease and is the founding editor of Comprehensive Clinical Nephrology, one of the main textbooks on kidney disease.
    For more than 20 years, he has led research on the cause of obesity and diabetes, with a special interest in the role of sugar (especially fructose) and uric acid. His research has been highly cited, published in top medical journals, and supported by grants from the National Institutes of Health. He is the author of The Sugar Fix and The Fat Switch. Dr. Johnson lives in Colorado with his wife, kids, and two rambunctious puppies.
    In this episode, Dr. Johnson talks about the inspiration behind his uric acid research. He speaks about the correlation between uric acid, fructose, sugar, and inflammation. Plus, he explains why your body would be producing excess uric acid. Later, we discuss why the keto lifestyle is so powerful and the reason burning calories isn’t the purpose behind exercise.     Fantastic video. Packed with highly comprehensible info and practical application. Ben is an extraordinary host. His self restraint allows his highly knowledgeable guest to expound without interruption. As a result, the flow of info and enlightenment is a gift they both give us. 💪🏻

    I am not a doctor just someone who believes in natural medicine and extremely curious... my sister's lab results and her at third stage kidney disease for awhile... and you might not want to hear this but I knew that food grade DMSO was used for bladder infections and of course the ton of other things... She started taking it religiously for 9 months... lo and behold her lab results are now normal... imagine that... something so simple and doesn't require $1000 of dollars to Big Pharma... and eventually dying anyway.
    I did not listen to the whole video so I don't know if you mentioned a #1 factor gut microbe to numerous autoimmune disorders... as that would be the first place I would tell anyone to start... but what do I know, I didn't go to medical school to be taught how to drug people instead of healing them.
    Americans have got to demand actual Healthcare... Healthcare that provides the knowledge that helps the body heal itself...

    Doing a modified GAPS type ... meat based , type thing right now and it's making a huge difference.. animal foods, a little fruit and a few veg.

      yes, it is recorded in cave paintings. B/c they were able to test for uric acid at least 10 million years ago. Imagine to celebration when they magically began making uric acid.

    I can eat protein only with meats, no veggies or fruits whatsoever for months and still cannot get into ketosis. I check my blood sugars, still under 99 but do not reach ketosis no matter what...

      @@ocelaenoI started drinking exogenous ketones that are bio identical recommended by Dr Ben Bikman, on You Tube that he takes himself and tho expensive it finally worked for me…actually has kept my ketones .5-1.0….with 2oz mixed with water daily…still experimenting….

      See Dr Ben Bikman’s Exogenous Ketones video on You Tube. He recommends a bio identical brand, he takes himself. I am trying it and it is working to raise my ketones from never higher than .2 to .5-1.0 I test at home daily to see what foods and time of day influence my ketone levels. All expensive I must say…but am trying to get handle on how my body is interacting with some recent heart medications I have been put on.

      Maybe eat more fats b/c eating protein increases blood sugars. I get into ketosis with blood sugars in the low 80s.
