Herd immunity seems to assume limited interaction between members of a population- e.g. at 2:24 it is said that those with immunity form a barrier between those that are infected and those are are susceptible. In a large herd where an animal moving together with others would have limited interaction with the entire population, it is understandable, but with a human being who would frequently move through the population, it is not. Or am I looking at it too simply?

R0 if *left unchecked* is around 3.0, it's been said anywhere from 2.5 to 3.4. However R0 is based on a formula and varies depending on the herd's behaviour. So a lockdown, social distancing etc will reduce it right down. A poll in Britain has estimated that the R0 there appears to be dropping to 0.6 which is great news, and it shows that it's working 👍

4:34 No, you literally just established you can achieve herd immunity by reaching a specific threshold, and you can achieve individual immunity by getting vaccinated, so if you get vaccinated and I don't, I'm literally not putting you at risk, because you are immune. That is why vaccines are voluntary. Because ultimately it doesn't matter that there are certain people who aren't vaccinated, because you can achieve Herd immunity without them, and frankly, the percentages you give, are based on eradicating the disease, not simply managing it, which requires an even lower percentage. This notion that those who are unvaccinated put others in danger is absurd too, logically, they put only themselves in danger, because anyone who is vaccinated is immune, only those who are not vaccinated are at risk, and as you have established, only some vaccines are impossible to give to everyone, not all. So, realistically, you are fully capable of just getting the vaccine to protect yourself, and then it doesn't matter who else has it, because you aren't going to catch it by being around someone who isn't vaccinated, you are immune. If anything the person who isn't vaccinated might catch it from you, because even though you are immune, that doesn't mean you aren't contaminated with the virus from someone else, be it on your clothes, your hands, or other items in your posession.

Actually Sweden is doing it right. A lot of Swedish ppl will get immune, and they will be able to function in society. Death rate is something like 0,01-0,02. Staying home, depressions, millions of people loosing jobs, loosing business (which they was working whole life), getting in debts, ignoring other sickness, not getting immunity for other things by staying home- it's real disaster. They forbidden gatherings of 50+ and closed elderly houses, hospitals. People who are afraid stay home. Sweden is getting natural immunity. It's what's about herd immunity Romero.
Vaccine induced herd immunity explanation has at least three very major problems. (1) The vectors of disease transmission for many of these diseases are not just humans, they include animals such as pets, insects, rats, etc. Therefore, the theoretical model you have presented breaks down for many (though not all) of the diseases. (2) Vaccine induced immunity does not last very long relative to naturally acquired immunity. For example, HepB is estimated to last 8 years, so by the time a baby becomes old enough to be sexually active or us IV drugs, they would not be immune to HepB, Pertussis is only lasting a couple of years before significant protective declines. (3) People vaccinated still get the diseases (look at pertussis as an example), they are just asymptomatic. So you become a carrier of B. Pertussis and can transmit it to others.

This video is not balanced or fully accurate. 1) He mentions the down side to getting the disease but fails to mention the downside to vaccinations. A more complete story would show both. Some folks will be damaged or die from immunizations. 2) Further, and perhaps more significantly, he fails to mention that immunization does not result in 100% immunity and immunization rates can range from 0 to ~95% (thus make his herd immunity argument not accurate) and is not life long. Illness immunity is generally 100% and lifelong. Please redo this video with more scientific accuracy.

Herd immunity seems to assume limited interaction between members of a population- e.g. at 2:24 it is said that those with immunity form a barrier between those that are infected and those are are susceptible. In a large herd where an animal moving together with others would have limited interaction with the entire population, it is understandable, but with a human being who would frequently move through the population, it is not. Or am I looking at it too simply?

However R0 is based on a formula and varies depending on the herd's behaviour. So a lockdown, social distancing etc will reduce it right down. A poll in Britain has estimated that the R0 there appears to be dropping to 0.6 which is great news, and it shows that it's working 👍

4:34 No, you literally just established you can achieve herd immunity by reaching a specific threshold, and you can achieve individual immunity by getting vaccinated, so if you get vaccinated and I don't, I'm literally not putting you at risk, because you are immune.
That is why vaccines are voluntary. Because ultimately it doesn't matter that there are certain people who aren't vaccinated, because you can achieve Herd immunity without them, and frankly, the percentages you give, are based on eradicating the disease, not simply managing it, which requires an even lower percentage. This notion that those who are unvaccinated put others in danger is absurd too, logically, they put only themselves in danger, because anyone who is vaccinated is immune, only those who are not vaccinated are at risk, and as you have established, only some vaccines are impossible to give to everyone, not all.
So, realistically, you are fully capable of just getting the vaccine to protect yourself, and then it doesn't matter who else has it, because you aren't going to catch it by being around someone who isn't vaccinated, you are immune.
If anything the person who isn't vaccinated might catch it from you, because even though you are immune, that doesn't mean you aren't contaminated with the virus from someone else, be it on your clothes, your hands, or other items in your posession.
Your logic makes total sense if vaccines were 100% effective, but they aren’t. Also, they only protect for a period of time.
You're basically saying the opposite of why vaccines were invented in the first place they were invented to achieve herd immunity without having to go and get everybody sick

Lot of people can not be vaccinated because they are too old or they have a genetic problem. Vaccinated people are not at risk, but everyone else is.
Children, very young children especially, are often at risk from influenza as they are not vaccinated.

Vaccines create antibodies that immune you from contracting the disease which prevents the spread of the disease within a cluster of people. How you do not understand that is beyond me..

Vaccine induced herd immunity explanation has at least three very major problems. (1) The vectors of disease transmission for many of these diseases are not just humans, they include animals such as pets, insects, rats, etc. Therefore, the theoretical model you have presented breaks down for many (though not all) of the diseases. (2) Vaccine induced immunity does not last very long relative to naturally acquired immunity. For example, HepB is estimated to last 8 years, so by the time a baby becomes old enough to be sexually active or us IV drugs, they would not be immune to HepB, Pertussis is only lasting a couple of years before significant protective declines. (3) People vaccinated still get the diseases (look at pertussis as an example), they are just asymptomatic. So you become a carrier of B. Pertussis and can transmit it to others.
Hepatitis B vaccine offers lifelong immunity in most cases.
That's the whole point of HERD IMMUNITY.

This video is not balanced or fully accurate. 1) He mentions the down side to getting the disease but fails to mention the downside to vaccinations. A more complete story would show both. Some folks will be damaged or die from immunizations. 2) Further, and perhaps more significantly, he fails to mention that immunization does not result in 100% immunity and immunization rates can range from 0 to ~95% (thus make his herd immunity argument not accurate) and is not life long. Illness immunity is generally 100% and lifelong. Please redo this video with more scientific accuracy.
