Hey Brothers. Great reaction! If you listen close, you'll hear the very distinct voice of Michael MacDonald, who spent time with the Doobie Brothers and had an amazing solo career.
I second that. You can hear McDonald in many Steely Dan albums. My now 29 year old son didn't know exactly what I was talking about when I brought this up while he was a teen. We listened together on a few of the interim version of the Doobies and he got it immediately.
This is from the Aja album, a masterpiece. You have to appreciate the incredible musicianship and high quality recording Steely Dan consistently put together, especially the time frame of the early 70’s. These guys are great. Gotta do Black Cow and Josie from the same album
I love this album, songs "Black Cow", "Aja "(Asia) a woman's name, "Deacon Blues", "Peg", "Home Again", "I Got the News", and "Josie". My only criticism is the album is not long enough.
Cool reaction! Perfect for summer. Creativity at the highest level. Background singer is Michael McDonald who joined the Doobie Brothers. "Kid Charlemagne" is another tasty song. Thanks guys!!
Yes guys, please keep reacting to Steely Dan. Every album has its own vibe and they strived to make every song unique. They will always be my favorite band and it’s not even close.
People like well-written, performed and produced music. That's why Steely Dan's popularity is enduring. They just did a fantastic job, giving that extra 10%, much like I did with writing this comment.
Steely Dan is a great American rock band founded in 1971. You guys have done a few of their songs already. Other great hits are "Dirty Work", "Rikki Don't Lose That Number", "Babylon Sisters", "Black Friday", "Hey Nineteen", "Josie", "Show Biz Kids", "My Old School", "Kid Charlemagne" etc.
Steely Dan is just so creative and never let you down. Black Cow, Reelin in the Years, Rikki Don't Lose that Number, Don't take me alive, Deacon Blues, FM, Dirty Work is a must....The list goes on and on! Deep Dive is required for Steely Dan!
Hi there, the guys have done a few reactions so far and that includes Reelin' in the Years, Deacon Blues, and FM. The others they've done are Do It Again, AJA, and Glamour Profession. I'm sure they will be doing plenty more!
Jazz-rock masters, much like the Allman Brothers, they only bring in the best musicians to compliment the others already there and in place. Stay safe.
Love seeing younger generation, young like I was when I heard this, getting into the jam, the Steely Dan jam,..every group from the 70's, 60's, 80's, very different, each in there own distinctiveness, like you said, you know when you hear a SD song, you immediately know who it is,..there are many masterpiece albums in the 70's, Aja, Songs In The Key Of Life, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, ..I'm sure I forgot somebody, got so much music in my head,..do keep going, Godspeed, Peace ✌
Love Steely Dan. Had the pleasure of hearing them for free while working a conference in Lake Tahoe, NV. They set up a sweet with a balcony with drinks and food, and the balcony was overlooking the casino's Outdoor Amphitheater. Steely Dan happen to be playing that night, what a treat to hear the concert so perfectly. Great reaction guys!
I noticed you wearing a Led Zeppelin t shirt and it reminded me if you two have reacted to Heart honoring LZ at The Kennedy Center Honors. It is a must watch.
Yeah bros this one just has that absolute Steely Dan perfection. Been listening to it for decades and it never gets stale. Chuck Raineys bass is just so stinkin slick. Jay Graydon laid down that iconically smooth solo in one take I believe. You absolutely have to watch the Aja documentary that came out in 93 or so. It is so interesting to watch Donald and Walter break down all the songs in detail! For example they had a few other guitar solos before Graydon and they sound almost laughable. But man with Graydon it was like lightning struck. Perfect song from these geniuses !
No, you guys understand this band. That’s STEELY DAN, that’s their style. Very dependable band. They never diminish. That’s why the are one of the very best American bands. We have plenty of Hard Rock, but we have STEELY DAN too!
Oh my! Look who got some sun! If you listen to the background vocals towards the end, you'll hear Michael McDonald from the Doobie Brothers' voice! Loved this video, guys!
Nice reaction. The entire Aja album is incredible! Also, you should check out an older one, "Don't Take Me Alive" from their Royal Scam album. When you mentioned how much you enjoyed "Rickie Don't Lose That Number", that song popped up as another you'd enjoy.
The album AJA is a true classic, having said that, l still prefer The Royal Scam and my absolute favourite Pretzel Logic. It's a strange thing to say, but AJA for me is almost too perfect, I love the shorter tracks on PL, songs like Through With Buzz, Night by Night, With a Gun, and the amazing title track. The Royal Scam comes a close second.
You Bro's have not even scratched the surface when it comes to this great band. Kid Charlemagne, Green earrings, Black Cow, Don't take me alive and New Frontier(Donald Fagen) are a must listen. There are a lot more after that....
Nice reaction guys! Becker and Fagen always got the best studio musicians they could. Sometimes they would revolve out different players during the same song! Maybe do upwards of 100 takes, until they found the exact sound they were looking for. Talk about perfectionism!
These guys were studio gunslingers who decided to form their own band. Heavy, heavy drug use even though you would never know it by listening to them (except for some of the lyrics) Ha Ha! Very high quality musicianship and songwriting. Excellent band, excellent music.
You guys need to react to some Motown artists and R& B singers. People like Gladys Knight and the Pips and their song, Midnight Train to Georgia, or Earth, Wind and Fire, and their song, September.. live version in both cases. A big part of American music centers around Motown and R& B. Harold Melvin and the Blue Nites have a great song called, The Love I Lost… Do the Soul Train live version. You guys can’t get a complete exposure to American music without covering Motown and R& B. Another great group is called , The Stylistics and their song, You Make Me Feel Brand New.
I think they went through about 6 guitarists before Jay Graydon plugged in and went to work. That was not uncommon. They just wouldn't settle on anything that wasn't perfect. Drove everyone nuts!
It's great that you're diving deep in Aja. You really should react to the Royal Scam album. I suggest Kid Charlemagne and Green Earrings. But the whole album is good. Keep doing what you do. Peace
I notice you’ve not listened to anything from their album, Gaucho. I suggest Babylon Sisters for the groove and the ladies singing background who I always sing along with. I love it, maybe you will too. Thanks for sharing your excellent videos.
Here in America, back in the 70’s and 80’s. the one best way to test your new stereo system was to play a Steely Dan album. Btw, their name is a dildo.🤷🏻♂️
Great song, legendary album and considered one of the best of the incredible 1970’s decade. Try reacting to the title track AJA. The best drum solo ever!
Could it be that aliens have landed on Planet Earth and their name is Steely Dan? It would of course include everybody whoever sang or played on any of their perfect albums. No, they are human beings like the rest of us, just super hard working guys and gals who know their craft. We are blessed to be on the same planet when they were. RIP WALTER
Have to say I'm not a huge Steely Dan fan, but that's not to say that I don't appreciate some of their music. I liked this one, Peg, it has a nice vibe and feel to it, yes, maybe I should start exploring more of their music. I probably heard one of their songs and maybe it didn't appeal, but I shouldn't dismiss them, I'll do a bit of investigation on RUclips or more probably Spotify. Actually guys, you've reacted to six Steely Dan songs so far, Peg is the seventh - Reelin' in the Years, Do It Again, Glamour Profession, AJA, FM (No Static at All) and Deacon Blues. So that's not bad - I had a quick look at your previous videos! Thanks so much for your reaction, guys, really enjoyed it as I always do! Take care now.
@@MrRabbit43 Thanks Bill, I always listen to my music through headphones, it's the only way to get the full affect as far as I'm concerned! I'm on Spotify so I'll listen to the songs you've recommended through there instead of RUclips I think. Thanks again for all the information.
You should go back to some of their earlier recordings, the albums Countdown to Ecstasy and Pretzel Logic. If there's nothing there you don't love, I'm afraid there's no hope for you! 😏
@@keithjones7390 Oh dear, Keith, that doesn't sound too good! I'll give them a go - there are some songs I like, the one Bill recommended, Josie, that was really good, and I did like Peg too.

Walter Becker and Donald Fagan (singer) are the band basically. They create the music and then hire musicians to play and record it, then go on tour with them. The two of them are very picky about music quality and it shows in their albums.
