This was really helpful and answered a lot of questions I've had. Just learning Garageband but I'm getting there. You've got some great covers and orignal music here. Thanks for sharing this! Payton
Sweet I subbed you a couple weeks ago cause I liked your covers and I've been totally trying to research gear to start building a studio and had no idea where to start. This helps. Appreciate it.
Nice dude, I do pretty much the same thing. I've also found that using stereo delays add depth better than reverbs (without muddying up the mix, especially dense ones). Im used to double tracking my acoustic guitars and hard panning them, now I gotta start using two mics instead :)
thank you so much, ryan!well, mic to input of mp500nv; output of mp500 to input of 527; then output of 527 (using xlr) to my interface? i used the first 3 spaces of lunchbox to the left (as i only have 1 mp and 1 527). so when i speak without recording, the sound is very much different (sound of mp500 with quite a reverb, warmth and air) but different when recorded..it's too dry..i already know about busses..i just wanna capture the sound i'm hearing on the headphones when recorded..more power
ryan, with vocals, did you use the same settings with your mp500nv/api 527 as what you used in your acoustic guitar take? hope you can share the vocal settings as well (mic pre/ comp settings)..very informative video. thanks for sharing!
ryan, can you give me the exact values of other knobs on api 527?the threshold, attack, release, etc pls? and most of the time, how much gain on mp500 nv, output cal on what position (oclock). thank you so much on the reply. you are indeed helping us starters!
i use garageband and record my guitar straight into the recording program do you recommend switching to logic? Also, is there any cheaper alternative to all your equipment because its a little pricey... :/ Thanks!
should i use the input and output on #2 on the back of lunchbox for mp500 (since mp500 occupies #1 and #2 slots) or should i use #1 going to 527? thanks again!
ryan,we have more or less the same gear. why is it that when i listen on my cans, the sound is different. it's airy, warm and nice..but when i record it and play it back, it did not capture the sound of the mp500nv..i sure bypassed the preamp on my apogee duet using line level (-10 or +4)..i wonder if i connected the lunchbox wrong (mp500 and api 527)..hope you can shed light on this..thanks and more power!!!
Okay one question. How do you make a video if your going to use a mic and headphones. I have an audio technica at2020 and i want to make a video of me recording in front of it but using that mic instead of my camera mic. HELP PLEASE!

With all that awsome gear you should really invest in some treatment for your room. It will make a huge difference.
