  • An 1969 TV special designed to make viewers excited for the 1969-1970 NBC Television Network schedule. Shows promoted include: "My World.. And Welcome To It", "The Debbie Reynolds Show", "Then Came Bronson", "Bracken's World", "The Andy Williams Show", "The Bill Cosby Show" and "The Bold Ones". Most of these shows obviously cannot be uploaded, so this promo is the next best thing.

    NBC's profits were worth $56.4 million (and later $43 million) in 1969, CBS was the most profitable (because of it's status as the No. 1 network at the time).

    yup, they put star trek on in the Friday at 10pm slot for the 68-69 season,thus ensuring cancellation. they spent 3 years finding intelligence in the universe, but were unable to find any at NBC HQ.

      She had faith in the format (it was created by Jess Oppenheimer, who was the "architect" of "I LOVE LUCY")- but after she went ballistic over her primary sponsor, American Brands {American Tobacco} scheduling a cigarette commercial during her premiere episode [when they insisted they WOULDN'T schedule any ads for their tobacco products], they pulled out of the series.....and NBC was unable to secure another major sponsor. Plus the fact that the show was opposite the second half of ABC's "MOD SQUAD" just about guaranteed its cancellation after one season.

    The footage of Andy Williams (and his guests) performing were from three specials he did the previous season, as his new series hadn't begun taping at the time this preview was prepared. That "closing theme" was also heard during their 1966 fall preview {"Two in a Taxi"}, when the returning Saturday night shows were quickly mentioned, Jason; that music dates back, at least, to the 1964-'65 season...

    Unfortunately, Star Trek won't be coming back this year. You'll just have to wait for 12 motion pictures, and 4 spin-off series lasting more than 20 seasons that will be starting about a decade from now.

    Looked pretty tame for a "fall porno special"

    • @fromthesidelines
      @fromthesidelines 9 лет назад

      The NBC fall preview specials became somewhat "predictable" in the '70s, because the same writer/producer [Philip Minoff, of the "NBC Advertising Department"] and editor [Alan Smiler] worked on them. In fact, the 1974 and '75 previews are virtually the same- even though the "hosts" and new series are different. That's one reason why NBC lost ground in attracting new viewers in the mid-'70s, and why CBS continued to be the #1 network [until ABC upset the others by "winning" the 1975-'76 season].
