Fantastic performance a legendary piece. Heaton wrote two of the finest pieces for brass band and IMO two of the finest movements in music. First Mvt of Contest Music and the 2nd Mvt of Partita. They are up there with any thing else I have listened to. Also my respect to the conductor. A man that totally understand the message that music communicates.
NABBA 2019 championship section test piece. I know just about every part of this piece like the back of my hand. Repiano cornet on this piece is the best thing written in any piece of music ever
Championed by Howard Snell with Desford back then is one of the finest work for brass band. Just like Contest Music the is no fireworks, just sincere, honest heartfelt intelligent music which live in your heart for ever. Thanks Eikanger for a wonderful performance
I've known this piece since '86 and I never tire of it. Never thought I'd see the day it would be used on the contest platform and yet two bands have done just that, BUT this interpretation is just amazing. There are subtleties here that I've never noticed before, and that second movement is just......WOW!!! As 4br said 'a masterpiece given a truly masterful performance' - oh to have been there and heard it live!!! Bravo!
Dette er berre heilt fenomenalt! Eg vil påstå at dette vil gå inn i historia som ein av dei beste live-framføringar i tidene, når det gjeld brassband, saman med Fraternity! 😊🎼🎵🎶
Well, it can't be Eden as their Own Choice since it was not on the list EBBA released with the own choice pieces in use. Still it is going to be a good own-choice section I think, but if EBML gives this performance a small lift it will take a heck of a performance to beat them! But the competition is hard with Valaisia, Willebroek and Cory as the toughest competitors (my opinion).
I posted my comment before it the Own Choice list was announced. Quite disappointed that they still went with Turing Test after their massive success and performance of Eden. I think the strongest competitors are definitely Cory, Eikanger, Valaisia and maybe Willebroek. Stavanger is my dark horse thus far.
Why is this even a thing. I know the band looks tidy, but I personally couldn’t care if they were in jeans and t-shirts. Sadly I find the performance directionless and lacking any real musical sensibility. Some fine players, but some pretty average intonation for a band this level.
@@ScratchAlex I can say for myself as I sat in the hall and heard the live performance. It was breathtaking and superb with the acoustics from Griegsalen. Everyone knew that this was the winning performance long before the last note was blown.
really? In all that you could have said, this is what you noticed?? wow, unbelievable Wonderful playing, never knew Heaton had composed such an amazing work. Well done, wonderful playing and interpretation. I love the 'symphonic' full breadth sound of the band. I have heard so many bands that are technically almost unbeatable and yet have a 'thin' sound. This playing has a real depth to it. Thanks for sharing this.
a good band with a top conductor leading them beyond themselves to play more then the notes ♫♪great ♫♪♫♪♫♪♫♪ ♫♪ ♫♪great sound! ♫♪♫♪ ☺ ♥ ♫♪☺♫♪ great ♫♪♫♪♫♪☺ BRAVISSIMO @bisbis 🎶🎵🎼 great music! a well tuned ensemble that sounds like an organ ! Fabulous banding
Among the many brass band players, the soprano player is the best I've heard.

This is a long piece, and for something written in the 1940s this was ahead of its time. Great commitment and endurance!
Everything Wilfred Heaton was ahead of its time.
@@marksturge9505 Compared to Schönberg, Webern, rather classical and traditional.

Truly awesome piece of music played by a truly awesome group of group of extremely talented musicians!.
100 Bravos
Some truly fine players in this band! Great sounds and clean tones. Love it!
Just a masterpiece. Everyone played superb that day. Especially the bass. The bass was out of this world.
No wonder they won. This is sublime

Stunning performance. Brilliant.
Fabulous rendition!
Beautiful concert played beautifully. Too bad that the cameramen did not know who and where they played the main parts.
great band, great playing ♫♪
Wow - mavelous playing
Incredible...probably unbeatable at the moment...this is a different class to any other band at this time!!
Marvelous band.
anhygoel! who is playing soprano?!!!!
Jon-Vegar Sole Sundal....superb player...
😮
They probably win euros again
There is Valaisia also...
Valaisian "Eden", if only *slightly* improved from their nationals, could be unbeatable.

We can also add Fairey and the dark horse Haut-de-France (it's the same level as Paris...)

Can anyone tell me who is playing principal cornet here?
that's Lode Violet
Lendi T ah thank you. How come David Morton wasn’t there?
some lips problem... it happens even to the best ones ;)
Lionel Hampton
One wishes some more « serious » orchestras would adopt the admirable gender neutral dress code seen in this performance
Why?

Better than Cory.
