I really enjoyed this show (both for this ship and for its general creepiness. Plus Daniel Brühl is amazing in it.). And while I wish these two had ended a little more happily, I did enjoy their development, though I must say I preferred season 1 to season 2.

DON'T. Ohmygod this is beautiful but it hurts so much. The ending of S2 punched my right in the heart, then took the heart out and stomped on it while I watched.
Sara did the right thing by not picking John.
She chose her freedom and her career over being shackled to a man with a child.
Even though she loved him, she realized there existed no scenario in which she could keep being a detective if she was married because she'd eventually have kids.
And John would of course have expected her to care for them and not be out late putting her life at risk to catch criminals.
Which would have just led to a ton of resentment between them becuase they wanted different things in the end. And love cannot transcend that.
Sara knew that John was only comfortable with her lifestyle because he wasn't married to her. But she knew that would change once they married. And John did not recognize his own expectations for the relationship and that Sara did want the same life.
He was over 10 years her senior. And had gotten to live his life and experience things. But she was just at the beginning of experiencing hers.
So it makes sense they didn't marry. It wouldn't have ended well. Love is not enough..
Violet is a perfect match. Even though John doesn't love her as much, she will be his SAHW and raise his children and make a home for him. Which is what he wants. And what he needs.
You are so right. Even though we were all rooting for them to have a happy ending and for their love to prevail, it just wouldn't make sense for Sara's character to sacrifice her career and marry him. John Moore is unfortunately the one that got away, a paramour she probably would remember with an aching heart many years later.
i started watching the alienist because of them and they absolutely destroyed me ;///

okay, so i've not even watched the edit and i'm already in love. you edited sara & john! i've just finished the last season and i'm not sure i can handle this... Here we go.
WHAT THE HELL that ending shkjfjshbkbgk we will find a way??? 😭😭😭 are you trying to kill me???? oh my. i love every single thing about this - how you start off with john's declarations of love and the end is basically just sara "but not me" "what are we going to do?" 😭 this is not fair! i was not expecting to go into this series and fall in love with a shipwreck, i do not deserve it!! this being said, i'm in love with the delicacy of this ❤️
She was too good and smart for him. I think he couldn't have handled her in long run. I hope in season 3 Sara would find someone that matchs her much better

That's not what happened. He loved her since they were children and she knew, and I actually believe she loved him back, just not more than her freedom.

This is so sweet but she literally rejected him SO MANY TIMES. Like I wanted them together but I felt like she was constantly self-sabotaging.
I got so lost while watching that I forgot that it was just a short video.
I never heard of that show and now I want to watch it so bad. And Luke Evans is so amazing and I really like Dakota Fanning. But reading all these comments it sounds like they don't get a happy end so I'm not sure if I should watch. I'm not over my last TV heartbreak and that's already been 3 years ago.
