Gosh thank you so much for this video! With coronavirus shutting down visitations, I've been searching desperately for resources to help me choose between Cal Poly and UC Davis. This was such a big help!
I really want to go to Cal Poly and just watching this video made me even more excited! It has always seemed like the best choice for me and you just reassured everything! Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for this video! I got accepted to slo and this was super helpful, especially since I’m probably not going to be visiting or touring anytime soon :,,)
I was just accepted (Class of 2024) for Computer Engineering. Do you know anyone in the engineering college and what their experience has been like so far?
Yeah! All my friends in engineering say that the professors are amazing! I’ve heard it’s challenging since it’s such a good program but I’ve only heard good things
Hi, Thank you so much for the information shared in the video. I have been admitted to CAED for its Bachelor of Architecture program. I wanted to ask if students (especially architecture students) have access to internship and job opportunities at and from Cal Poly.
Congrats! From what I’ve heard yes but it’d be good to check with students in the program. This is a great question for Cal Poly faculty, the cal poly slo parents Facebook page, or something you could ask if you attend the open house.
They have you choose housing by learning communities that way you live with people you’ll like! The learning communities can change locations every year so I’m not really sure what they’d be next year. I think for my year it was mindful living, college of science and math, honors, and a few others
I’ve been accepted into UCSC, UCSD, and UC Davis; however there is something about Cal Poly SLO that I love!! Do you have any insight in the Public Health major here??
Cal poly is my dream school along with the chance to try out for the dance team but my gpa isn’t the best and i haven’t taken the SAT yet what would you suggest?
thank you for sharing this video. cal poly slo is one of the colleges ive been accepted to so far and i was wondering how im gonna decide which college to go to if all the campuses are closed! this is really helpful. i was wondering, is it hard to switch majors? i'm thinking of switching from public health to business
Hey first off congrats! It’s definitely doable you just need to be super on top of it right away. I originally planned on switching my major but I ended up liking child development. To switch your major you need to be able to get the grade requirement that the major is asking you to earn. There are also separate requirements depending on the major. Whatever it is, you’ll want to meet with an advisor right away and make a change of major contract by the end of your first quarter. That way you’ll be switched early on. It takes 1-2 quarters to switch
Taeyoon Kim it is definitely not as diverse as other college campuses you are correct, but Cal Poly has resources and cultural groups to connect students from every background. I’ll post the link to a website you can check out and you could probably get in touch with other students! culture.calpoly.edu/MultiCultural
Heyy Sammi, I'm going to cal poly SLO as a freshman for next school year and I'm out of state; can you stay at the dorm for your 2, 3 etc. Year at school?? And how can I find a roommate I literally don't know ANYBODY hahaha. Did you know anybody before going in? How did you find your roommates? thanks so much!! Love your videos!
Congrats! You can apply for housing on campus every year you’re at Cal Poly but it’s not always guaranteed for your 2-4 years. I found my roommate on the Class of 2022 Facebook page so I’d recommend joining your year. Most people would post bios about themselves. Don’t worry about not knowing anyone! I made all new friends once I came here
How hard is it to get the classes you want? I heard that it’s pretty hard to graduate in 4 years... Also how big are your class sizes? Thanks! Loved this video 💗
Classes are usually 20ish-40. Largest lecture I’ve ever had is 120. Most of my friends are actually graduating early because they came in with AP credits but I’ve definitely heard of staying an extra quarter
Sammi Nicole Okay! Class size sounds pretty good. The one thing about graduating in 4 years is that my school didn’t offer any AP’s so I guess it’s gonna be harder for me. What do I have to do to make sure I graduate in time? Or is it lookin like I just wont since I didn’t take any APs.
Hm I’m not 100% sure but you may be fine! You may just take heavier quarters with more units or you could take an online class over the summer. You can contact the advising center for more help!
Hey, I got accepted into SLO and Pomona with a major of Architecture and was wondering if you know how classes/past experiences are? Since the whole coronavirus is going on it is very hard to visit campuses. Which school do you recommend?
Congrats! I’m not an architecture major but I’d recommend SLO! It’s a very well known program and a great education. San Luis Obispo is also a great place to go to college!
Hi i'm a 19 year old male from Sweden and i'm considering applying to Cal Poly for my senior year. But in that case it will be in Electrical Engineering. Do you know where i can find more information about the engineering "college" or building.
Hi, I just got into slo and I was wondering do you feel like the school is small that’s theirs not a lot to do since the city is far away from anything?
There’s not a lot to do besides going hiking and going to the beach. They don’t have a mall and subpar cultural food.I’m from la so it definitely shocked the shit out of me.
I’m from a beach town so it’s not much different for me but they make a good point. We go to the beach and hike a lot but there’s other things to do too!
i am really looking into applying here and i have a few questions!! are there a lot of out-of-state/far away students? i’m from arkansas and i was just wondering if it’s mainly locals or really diverse. also i would love to watch a video of your stats because i’m curious to see what it takes to get accepted!! :)
Hey Shelby! Definitely apply!! Cal Poly has a lot of in state students. However programs like engineering or architecture have more students from out of state since the program is highly recognized. If you want more info on this check out this website and scroll down calpolynews.calpoly.edu/quickfacts.html
Hey! Registration can be tough just because class sizes are small however if you come in with AP credit you will get an earlier registration date. The more degree progress you have the earlier your date will be. I’m in the Honors program so I get priority registration along with athletes and learning assistants so registration hasn’t been an issue for me. Most of my friends will get waitlisted but end up in the classes they need. Hope that helped!
i got accepted to Cal Poly and i have two Qs - i got accepted into the school of the liberal arts and im wondering if u think your getting a strong education in that department of cal poly. the school is known for agriculture + engineering + business so im wondering if the other departments are lil bit neglected. - does being in a suburban area affect you? like there are no big cities to go to what about like finding chains like urban outfitters or popular eating spots u can only find in a city or soulcycles
Hi! Congrats! Yes I do feel like our college of liberal arts is a great education although I did have the same concern. I love my small class sizes and the professors are great. The career fairs tend to cater to STEM, Business, and Ag, however the are still many opportunities available for CLA (you can email the department for more info). The facilities may be a bit dated compared to STEM however I’ve had no problem with it. I also love being in a small college town! It’s kinda a bubble but it’s really fun. There’s a lot to do for college students. There are no large shopping centers but I’ve been pretty lucky with most things! (Target, Trader Joe’s, Home Goods, etc) +they are building an Orange Theory:) They have a good amount of stores downtown like Urban Outfitters, Lululemon, and Sephora, but most are small boutiques. They have many of the same restaurants I eat at while at home but for the most part you’re cooking or eating on campus. In college you won’t have a lot of time to shop and eat out everyday so it hasn’t affected me a ton! Hope that helps!
Keep doing amazing with school and be well rounded! Fill out everything you can on the application giving lots of detail when it’s possible! Also, certain majors are more competitive to get into so keep that in mind 💚💛 you got this!
They require students to come to slo day’s orientation over summer and they recommend participating in WOW which takes place starting move in day (lasts a week)
Hahah there’s a bit of a variety but I’ve definitely seen guys wearing kaki shorts, billabong shorts, gym shorts, t shirts, etc. It’s a pretty chill campus. He’ll be fine in anything but it does get pretty warm in the fall and spring so people dress according to that!
Hey! I don’t really want to post my stats but I can say that I was in the upper range for what my college accepted for my year. They post the stats on the admissions website! Good luck!

Thank you so much for the amazing video and the help duo insights!
Hi! My roommate was an English major and just switched to Political Science. It’s not too hard to switch as long as you do it early enough and you meet the requirements. They want you to be really sure about switching before you do it so give them your reasons! (Look at the curriculum for both majors and compare them) I’m not sure all the details of the English program but I know it’s definitely small. Your honest opinion tho: how would you address the racism at cal poly
class of '24 woohooo!! love the video :)
