    21:31 Can you please elaborate on how 5(v+3) is already simplified? You were able to distribute on the denominator and make it 6v +18. So why aren't you able to distribute the numerator and make it 5v + 15?

      @@SuperSalome18 The notifications pop up on my phone, and generally speaking, I try to respond to most of them! The test is easier than you think. If you can work through the practice tests in my math boot camp playlist, you'll be fine on test day. Here it is: ruclips.net/p/PLhlU-GzAQeG2ete7N8QjR2dDN_CaIH67z

    Hello sir! Uhm, I have a question at @6:40, the answer to this question is 5w-2/14. Just wondering how did the +2 earlier turned into -2 next to 5w? I thought it would stay positive and so the answer i've got was 5w+2/14 . Hopefully this question reaches you and thanks for everything so far! Im taking my first asvab next week!

      In order to combine the numerators, you have to distribute that negative sign to all of the numbers and terms in the numerator of the second fraction (i.e., 2w and 2).

  • @nightkast0
    @nightkast0 3 года назад +4

    Why in problem #2 is it 5w-2, instead of 5w+2. It was 7w-2w+2 and the 2 got changed to a negative...

    • @GrammarHero
      @GrammarHero  3 года назад +1

      You've got to distribute the subtraction sign to the numerator of the second fraction. Therefore, it becomes 7w -(2w + 2), which equals 7w - 2w - 2, which is 5w - 2.

    Is it the least common multiple for both adding and subtracting fractions if they have 2 common multiples?

    • @GrammarHero
      @GrammarHero  4 года назад

      In order to add and subtract fractions, they must have the same denominator, which is referred to as the least common denominator (LCD) or least common multiple (LCM).

    Question: when you were working the "w/2 - w+1/7," around the 6:25 mark, you took the addition from "2w+2" and made it "2w-2" when you added the "7w" from the other fraction to it. What rule is that? What made it go from addition to an instant subtraction? That's the only part that I didn't fully grasp after watching it a couple of times.

    • @GrammarHero
      @GrammarHero  8 месяцев назад +1

      You have to distribute the negative sign to both terms in the numerator (i.e., - (2w + 2 ) becomes -2w -2 ). In fractions, only the numerators change; if the denominators are the same already, we have no reason to change them.
