Part that you was missing for that extra kick is Dynamic Pro mode (need chip plug to unlock)...then you would see why Baron told what he told when he did test ride....Great review like always.
I'm loving the season of naked bikes. I'm between an FZ-07 and S1000R. I've taken out a FZ for a demo run, and it was fantastic. But I still can't shake off the S1. It calls to me. Thanks for the review.
Great, how I want a S1000R to keep my S1000RR company! Excellent review covering a good variety of riding situations! Time to trade in one of the Harleys!
Trying to chose between a mate's s1000R with 8k km on it (pristine), new GSXS1000, new GSXS750 or new Z900. Your review keeps taking me back to the BMW, despite higher service costs for the Bm. Thanks.
Yeah but how does the S1000R rate in the Maccas drive thru? :D You should see if you can get your hands on an electric bike like the Mission, i'd love to see an Aus motovlogger try it out, especially you!
Hi Tom. I just traded in my 15'RR for a 18'R. Loving it. In all honesty, RR is bit overkill for public roads, plus it chows tyres. The R has more manageable power for public roads. Electronics are great. Personally I can lean into my corners more easily on the R. Remember, you cant compare a superbike with a naked. Compare it to a Tuono or SDR.
+RidingWithTom don't say Germans are not about fun, and all about efficiency; BMW also makes the M3 & the M4, and they are proper drifting machines(especially the E92 and E46 models); and as they say "M" STANDS FOR FUN!
@@EEEBA1 the s1000r has lots of tech that will help you out in some dangerous situation and it is more comfortable long distance wise. The dayatona is a fun motorcycle, super smooth but you will get tired real fast. I went on a 40km ride and by the time I came back... oh goodness, everything was hurting hahaha. Good luck with your purchase. Both bikes are incredible
I DISAGREE, ive ridden this bike along with a hand full of others (not the RR) and power delivery was excellent it went from 60MPH - 120 in around 3 seconds! all round amazing package with all the aids. BEAGLE POWER IS RIGHT THO, if the bikes done less than 600miles it will be restricted, and check the stats cuz 160bhp is delivered near the top of the rev range, which you wont quite hit with the restriction on.
if I can ever get to where I can trade in my street triple r, this will be my next bike, as you said this is the perfect road machine, Tom you forgot to set the cruise control for your ride home ;)
I think what it lacks is the progressive, sling-shot power you get from the power curve of a supersport...which makes sense because it's not tuned for that. You can go fast, you just don't have the shock factor of top-end power surge.
I'm surprised this bike impressed you when you're used to the S1000RR. But I can relate, when I test rode the Tuono V4R it was utterly thrilling, scared the shit out of me, and I loved it! I think it's a combination of the sound of that V4 and the sensation of speed from all that wind hitting you. That said, I'd rather own the S1000R. I'm pretty sure it will be my next bike, if not the new R1.
I could guarantee he has family money. 25 years old - has owned 5 or 6 different bikes, 2 or 3 skylines, lives in a decent apartment, he's ugly and kinda on the chubby side with a hot girlfriend. He has a job, but I'm sure it ALL has more to do with his Daddy's money.
Was looking at this bike for a day to day rider but you just talked me out of it. I guess it's back to looking at the Tuono for a day to day city bike that still brings the "scary."
AdoreYouInAshXI As a second bike, Well, it's Either a Harley V-Rod, a Ducati 1200S Monster, a Harley 48 and really Bob it out and make it look Sweet, or save money and just get an FZ-09 ???
BeaglePower G I looked at a Harley V-Rod but they just didn't suit me at all, too uncomfortable for my body. Love the look though. I thought long and hard about a FZ-09 but the suspension issues have stopped me dead in my tracks on that bike, being a larger and heavier rider. I think the bike would be fantastic with some changes made. Read this if you are considering the FZ-09 www.revzilla.com/common-tread/yamaha-fz-09-improving-the-suspension I think you should save up for a SuperDuke 1290. That's what I'm doing ;) But I sold my primary bike so this will be my one do all bike.
Dude did you forget it also has cruise control. I'm with you though. It's a great bike, but the lack of top end does make it feel a bit underwhelmed. 2015 S1000RR for me.
Saying its not as scary and powerful as the S1000RR isn't a bad thing, they wanted something different from the bike and they have exactly that. Also what was the top speed in first gear? 115? compared to your RR which is apparently higher?
Cool review, the last week I have seen one at the dealer but I must admit I was not overly impressed. Going to check out the new Ducati Diavel soon also.
I rode one of these and a Z1000 on the same day, I didn't like the BMW. It felt a little too artificial and I didn't like the riding position. I ended up buying the Kawasaki and I love it!
that's the difference between having the power in the middle and allow for high. Whem you have all the power in high you fell more the sport drive, because you feel the change of power whem you are up rev
Hi Tom that video was really great thank you for that, I'm very curious your opinion about the Tuono V4R APRC ABS in comparison with the BMW S1000R. I'm assuming that you didn't test drive yet the Tuono V4R APRC ABS?
Also, you were short shifting the bike pretty much the whole time. When you went to redline you weren't at full throttle. I feel like you might have missed out on the bikes top end power...
Hey Tom. Nice video, like always. One thing about the motor: It is the same "block" but they did change a whole lot of parts (the barrel head, the valves, cam shaft, re-worked conduits). How long did you drive it? Can you compare it to other BMW-models comfort-wise? I own a F800GT, drove around 12.000km onto it during this years season (03-10) and I am missing power. So I am thinking of buying a S1000R or an R12GS. The GS is awesome but I don't know.. It feels like something is missing. The S-R on the other hand, had me on first sight. Only doubt I have about the S-R is comfort-wise. Most of my trips are around 200-300km and don't want a ride without comfort. Any thoughts / experiences about that (maybe actually respective these 3 bikes?) Anyways: Keep it up and ride safe! PS: Sorry for the bad english, I am from Germany. PPS: We do like fun! :)
So the designer went out on his RR the other day, crashed it and said, hey, this could actually work, and there's the new S1000R. For those less fortunate, the difference between this and the RR is just like between the 919RR and 919 Hornet. The gearbox is longer and the engine, or rather exhaust and cams, is tuned for the midrange. These naked versions of sports bikes are quite the same, no matter what manufacturer made them.
Doesn't AUS have gravel on the road? I'm guessing that's not your bike and when you went on the highway, perhaps it looked quick on camera but i'd never take a corner that fast on somebody elses bike when I know, in Sweden at least, we have gravel on the parts where cars don't "move" it from the road. Nice bike though!
I have to ask, I'm a bigger guy, 203cm and 148kg, I had a ZX14 before, I just sold it a few months ago, I want a liter bike, but I look funny on them, would this fit me better?, or should I stick with a hyper bike. Nice video, by the way, Subscribed.
On the way back you should have used the cruise control! I'm sure in the revs for which 90% of road riding is done, the S1000R will have by FAR more power under the curve than the S1000RR. Hey Tom, are you going to trade your s1000rr for the new one that isn't quite as bug eyed?
Hi tom, What bike is the best allround you think? s1000r or the tuono v4r? Ive got the v4 now
Sounds like my next commuter bike... once I win the lottery.
I would so love to have one of those but I haven't seen any sort of system to carry gear on them, and for a tour type bike you think they would have something by now??? I wish I had the money to buy one to ride on the weekends and another bike to commute on, then again, don't we all.
love your bike man!!
if you're only bringing it to 9k which is before the 600 mile service, that's before the big power band lol
sweet vid Tom!
Its not meant to be as fast as the rr i dont understand why it would bother you that its not
Great review and all Tom, but man, that road looks terrible! Sides are all washed out, gravel everywhere... I wouldnt wanna ride fast(ish) out there...
Why are you riding on the wrong side of the road?
I don't know if you are riding it after the initial 800 mile break in for the bike. It is electronically limited in power till after the first oil change. Then BMW removes the limiters and gives you the beast you deserve.
So im curious what class this bike falls under sport touring or super streetfighter?
Why do you have so many nice roads there tom!!!!!
How's the maintenance been on it? Is a valve adjustment required?
Hey tom im stuck between a ninja zx6r 600 or a 636 wich would be better
I showed this video to my German friend and he laughed at the comment about Germans not liking fun :D
Whats the difference between S1000RR and HP4? They look exactly the same
HP4 has all the expensive go fast bits and electronic suspension. Plus it's 6.892% more scary fast. I know that because I am 50% German.
ABS keeps the front wheel down??? Does it apply the rear brake or something?
Where were the videos taken? Sort of feels like Mornington Peninsula, but where?
Part of it was Racecourse rd on-ramp to Westgate freeway, over the Bolte past the Star Wheel
Awesome bike!
Well Reviewed,
I do Like this Bike
;)
Where is the bridge you stopped on to review the bike?? Thank you
Tom is drunk on power! Time to go back to the Postie bike, get back to the roots.
Great review!
I noticed the bike he's riding is new and has the rev limiter set at 7k. I also think that dynamic pro mode is not available. Does anyone know if bmw limits power slightly above 7k while its in break-in?
I should clarify... I meant the rev limit warning light or 'shift light'
Hey Tom! Love your videos! You should get a intro to your videos:)
Hi bro, nice cool vid u got all.. Really looking u test drive on BMW Hp4. Curious whan to know what the different between ur bike : )
