The first movie is truly a rom com classic and Zellweger truly deserved her Oscar nod, IMO. The sequel, while clearly inferior, still has a lot of really fun and quotable moments. The third one is trash. And this upcoming sequel looks even worse.
My video for the sequel will be up tomorrow! I have never seen the third but will be watching it close to the release of the new one. I'll be going in with low expectations but hopefully it'll have a bit of the old charm and humor.
Never read the books, but I did rewatch the OG movie & it’s very 2000s yet charming. The three leads are fantastic & even the side characters leave an impression despite limited screen time. I also love the ending fight between Colin Firth & Hugh Grant cause they just made it up on the spot and it hilariously shows, but you can feel their energy as well as the director probably having a blast shooting the sequence
7:30 again, I feel like there never was an ACTUAL engagement, but that Nadia hinted at that to Mark's parents, and that they couldn't help themselves to say something about it (which of course she hoped would happen). Mark just had the decency not to interrupt that moment, because he's well-educated and he would never cause a scene (like Bridget would and does). That's how I interpret that whole 'relationship' with Nadia, especially when you see how Mark is never actually pleased/happy when she is with him.
2:40 I wouldn't say Mark actually 'dates' Nadia. I much rather felt (in the movie at least) that Nadia was imposing herself, that she very much wanted to be WITH Mark at every occasion, that she even got his parents to sort of approve of them ending up together, but it never felt like that feeling was reciprocated.
I love both. I know is was supposed to be a mock of P & P first but is more deeper in the movie. I need to read the second and third book. It's not easy to find where I live.
This movie is my happy place. Every time I feel overwhelmed by adult life I just watch either the whole movie or my favorite scenes I feel better almost immediately. The "I'm Every Woman" scene is everything!
I never read the books except for the third book i grew up watching the movie renee zellweger was excellent as bridget i totally understood bridget because back then i was overweight as a child
Can we take a second to point out women? Why do we hate Natasha so much? She is educated, successful and more importantly is Marks recognized girlfriend. She may be a bit of a snob but why doesnt she feel superior? Shes pretty accomplshed vs Briget. Shes pretty fing accomplished compared to me and im also a lawyer. Mark is leading her on. If he doesnt want to be with Natasha nobody was stopping him! Its not Natashas fault Mark is leading her on. He literally brings her to his families party where he clearly hasnt made it clear he ISNT proposing to her. He sneaks off to flirt with Briget while he is with Natasha. Think about it and check yourself women. Why are we all so nasty to Natasha?
Yeah media, even media written by women, love to pit women against each other. I think (or at least hope) it is something that has become somewhat less common in books and movies? But definitely still a thing.
Just rewatched this movie this week bc like you said the end of year association! I was a teen when this movie came out and rolled my eyes so hard when I would see the trailer. Fast forward to my late 20’s I read the book bc of the loose pride and prejudice connection and I really liked it a lot. Saw the movie and especially in the opening bridget singing all by myself all alone was like oh wow I think I’m gonna really like this movie lol A side story that was really funny but not included in the movie was her gay friends secret disappearance but it just being a nose job. 😂 I like them both and yes the performances were really great. I never understood people saying Hugh grant’s swoon worthy until I saw this movie! 😍
Yeah it's so perfect for this time of year! And yeah the nose job story was a fun one and I did like learning more about her friends in the book. And i agree, Daniel is terrible, but Hugh Grant is still so attractive in this haha.
I'm a self-respecting cis male, and 90% of my book and film collections are Chick-Lit and Chick-Flicks (respectively). I've read and watched this book and film more times than I can count. I'd recommend you try either or at least once in your life; it won't lead to you losing respect for yourself.
Love the book and the movie equally (it was the first book I bought for my own personal library, which is 90% 90s and early-00s Chick-Lit, 5% classics, and 5% miscellaneous, lol). Not the best Chick-Lit nor Chick-Flick out there, but in the top 5 for sure. Speaking of Bridget's diet, have you seen Zellweger's Oprah interview about this film? The book and film heavily satirize the diet craze of the 90s, and (in addition to well-deserved praise for her impeccable English accent) Renée got endless praise because she was "so brave" for putting on "so much weight" for the role. She told Oprah this reaction was absurd (and against the very notions of the book and film, ironically), if you didn't catch it. Especially since, yes she was heavier in that role than normal, but it's not like Bridget was morbidly obese or anything, she was pretty average size for the day (just not Hollywood glamorexic).
book vs movie for the sequel will be up tomorrow!
the second book has Bridget interviewing colin firth and keep asking him about the lake scene 😂
In the first book she mentioned him too 😂

The book sequel is superior to the film sequel. The film sequel has fun moments but doesn’t hold up as a complete story.
Never read the book, but my wife was an avid fan of Fielding - she was quite surprised that Renee Zellweger pulled off such a good English accent.
Yeah Americans are notoriously bad at accents lol so I was also impressed!
@@WhytheBookWins I'm amazed that so many British actors & actresses can do incredible Amercian accents . . .

Agreed! The fight scene was hilarious 😂

Wait, another video already??? AWESOME!
😀
I think I’ve seen more movies and tv shows that were base$ on books than the books themselves.Ive thought about reading these and maybe I will soon

I'm a Bridget Jones fan
Laura, the third one is 2016's BRIDGET JONES'S BABY.
yeah I'll be doing that one as well!

Is Bridget Jones Baby not based on a book?
It is! I'll be covering that too. When i filmed this I didn't even know that movie existed 😂
What about Bridget Jones Baby?

This is a classic “ chick flic”. No self respecting cis male will every read this book or see the film.
