    EOD have a very dark sense of humor, heard a story of a retired EOD guy coming to a liquor store he frequented and found it had cops outside waiting for bomb squad because of a suspicious looking package. EOD guy asks the cop "Can I look at it? I used to do ordinance disposal for the army." Cop hesitantly agrees, on the condition he doesn't do anything stupid.
    This mf'er gets everyone to back away, and then kicks the fucking box like it's kickoff for Sunday night NFL, before saying "It's safe" and then strolls into the liquor store to buy some whiskey.

    This is actually realistic and logical, I know ATOs (Ammunition Technical Officers - [British/proper name of] Military Bomb disposal units) and everyone of them is well aware that if a bomb were to go off in their face the armour isn't going to protect them it's simply there to help keep their body "retrievable" and is mainly for everyone else's peace of mind. The ATOs I know would rather go in naked so if it does go wrong it'll be a quick death. This isn't an error or even an oversight, clones don't have families that will want their bodies back so body retrieval isn't a major issue, and from a GAR/kaminoan perspective it doesn't make much sense to spend more money on equipment that is unlikely to offer much more protection that the standard armour and at best will just cause a slower death in oppose to a quick one.

    • @nicholasmartin787
      @nicholasmartin787 3 месяца назад

      Also ATOs are usually very good at their jobs and have a surprisingly low fatality/catastrophic failure rate, I don't see why the statistics would be any different in the star wars universe. So it probably wasn't a high casualty job possibly even consider ed a dangerous low casualty job, especially when compared to other roles in the GAR.

    "Isn't your job scary?"
    CT: "Not at all. If I do it right I get to come home in one piece. If I don't do it right suddenly it isn't my problem anymore."

    the thing with explosives is, there's not really any armor you can add that'll save your life should it go off. IRL EoD specialists do have a suit but that only increases their chances from a distance, if they're standing over top of the bomb, it's gonna kill them as much as it would without the suit

    Maybe the Phase II bomb squad troopers had better armor?

    I think the lack of armored coating still kinda makes sense. If the blast is too big to be survivable, should the bomb go off, the clones would probably prefer armor that allows them more mobility on the battlefield so that they can at least get to the bomb alive.
    And, in a universe with lightspeed capabilities, I’m willing to bet explosive technology had reached a point where a lot of bombs would be unsurvivable if they went off while in one’s hands, no matter the type of armor. Come to think of it, heavier armor might actually result in a slower and more painful death than the regular gear in the event of a detonation.
    Now the orange paint probably didn’t do the bomb squad troopers any favors on the battlefield, but then again, neither would mostly white armor.

    I never questioned it. Clones wear armour. How effective it is is questionable; does it work against blaster rifles? Debris? Melee attacks? Or just small blasters? Does it protect against shrapnel and internal bleeding from explosives, or is that not how explosives work in their galaxy? Their weapons raise so many unanswered questions when it comes to warfare. But it keeps production cost down when you don't have to animate a face and when half of your characters use the same mesh models, with some texture variation.

    A lot of stuff will blow straight through bomb suits so they’re of limited use anyways and real EODs don’t even always bother putting them on

    It's probably better not to have extra layer of armor if the bomb do go off because it would be agony but the armor is pretty cool and they are experts for defusing bombs

    Actually, they still had them use the Phase 1 armor even after Phase 2 was introduced. He reason being because Phase 1 was way more effective at protecting the Clone but it was heavier and bulky with less movement than the Phase 2.
    EOD Droids would not be effective because they’d be destroyed pretty easily if there’s a fight before or during the attempt to defuse a bomb.

    I would guess that was just the Phase 1 Armor, by the time Phase 2 came around, they hopefully improved their design.
