Crazy awesome day day in the studio! So happy with the way it came out :) Part 1 - The Design Part 2 -Tone test: 9:24 Part 3 - 10S Custom Shop experience/review: 13:57 Hoping to bring this model to you guys in the future for aprox $999.00 USD Enjoy!
Awesome guitar, sounds great and soooo pretty, which is more important to me as I can’t play but I can still look at things. Well . . . things that are close. Love the headstock too, I prefer six on top for tuning but 3/3 or 4/2 keep enough of an angle without backtilt or string trees. And it’s purty without looking like any and every other manufacturer’s headstock. Congrats.
After laying out as many specs as you did, and them nailing almost every single thing you asked for, to make the entire "review" section of the video so short as to only include nitpicks about chips in the finish seems like a huge disservice to a company that let you in on a new process like this and just gave you this guitar. Which is a shame because the guitar looks fantastic.
I totally agree, even up to something as trivial as the colour, Darrell has totally nailed it. The perfect guitar!!!! I would buy it for sure, well if I could afford it, that is, lol!!
Congrats Darrell; One of the things I appreciate about you is you have integrity, and that's what lets me know I can take your word on something (I don't have to go watch another 3 videos to get the good and bad info). Thanks brother!
Now this is how a guitar should be built. No gimmicks. Perfect refined and improved modern form and fit. The humbuckers sound bright and full and the coil split sound is very pleasant, Stratty like. This is definitely a guitar that I would purchase without any second thoughts whatsoever. Round out the radius heal like you said a bit and you've got a 10 out of 10 I think! What is the price??
@@DarrellBraunGuitar I also want to design one. It would be very close to yours just a little difference in the body shape.everything else the same. Can you get me the info on cost as well? Also a contact number or email?

Great job designing that guitar. Love everything about it. Very well thought out. Modern and tastfully classic should hold up over time. I think you'd do well to sell that model as a line. Love that angled flame.
Absolutely beautiful. I love the finish, the contours and the appointments. I am also a fan of the split pickup sounds in clean mode. Nice and lightweight. You didn't mention the price point and I was curious what that degree of customization cost @ 10S.
So I love all these guitar reiews, first a under 100 dollar guitar, than make it sound like it's 200. Then word gets out the big companys with pay to play and now the 2000 to 3000 dollar guitars.
I have contacted 10S and they are putting the Darrell Braun model into production and are taking orders. Did you make any further modifications with them? Roasted maple neck available? Anything you didn’t like about the guitar? Retail $1299, pre-sale $1100 was what they quoted me. Is it an $1100 guitar?
Not only are you a great educator, an accomplished guitar player, and a truly nice guy, you also have impeccable taste in guitar aesthetics. Aurora is gorgeous!
Considering the price these are great stage guitars with top notch looks and playablity. I see these as great player instruments and not collector guitars. I agree the flaws can and should be cleaned up. Those few blemishes don't bring the guitar down much.
This is no tele though, in my book. Two humbuckers, scoops everywhere, no ash tray, no brass saddles, and the controls are all wrong. Maybe I'm old fashioned.
I hate Telecasters for all the bad things that were removed in this guitar: thick edgy slab of plain wood with plain metal parts nailed on them without any care for aesthetics or ergonomics. This here fixes it all.
Leo of Red Keep haha! Those are the things tele fans love! Part of the charm is in its simplicity. It’s a primitive instrument that is relatively unchanged almost 70 years later, and still just as relevant. They perfected it on the first try. And the tele can pretty much do it all. To each their own I guess
That guitar “oozes” quality! Beautiful! Definitely a guitar that a person would want to play every day! Those tones make my ears happy!😊. Flipping the four and the two tuners on the headstock is an interesting choice. I never would have thought to do that.
No tilt-back, and no string trees. Not an issue with the way I see you play. However, for some more energetic types, there might be a bit of string dislodging. Northern Lights theme is great, and the finish reflects that. Very pretty. BTW, the aurora borealis will only increase in intensity as the Earth's magnetic field continues to weaken. That is not really a good thing, but beautiful. All-in-all, a very handsome and fine sounding instrument. Great choices on your part. Thanks.
Congrats! It's gorgeous! It's cool that Agufish, Ryan Bruce and you advert this brand. But their website is really obscure, not much stock (that's why all of you 3 had to wait months). As for the prices, the majority of their available guitars are over 1500$. It would have been cool to mention a price even if the guitar was provided free as an exchange to make 10s promotional video.
Wow, Darrell. That blue flame finish really is gorgeous. The maple neck is lovely too. And the compact, extremely, practical, headstock; when are the major manufacturers going to wake up to that one? That is one seriously lovely guitar. Enjoy! And thanks for sharing.
What a beauty!!! Really like all the thinking behind the design of the guitar!!! Even if you can see some little flaws, I think it doesn't take anything from the beauty of this guitar. Nothing is perfect in this world and it add something to the spirit of the guitar. Great guitar and great tones as well. Congrats to the 10S Custom shop!!!!
Someone looks very happy:)!!! Congratulations Darrell! And thanks for sharing this amazing guitar! I'm not normally a fan of the light colored neck but I must admit this is definately an exception! Love the blue color on the back!
Really Really cool guitar Darrell! I like the details you chose. Pretty cool to see what you picked and why. Also appreciated your honest opinion at the end, and was well stated.

Good luck buying from 10S. They gave a 2-month delivery estimate, but months later and no guitar and a month of waiting for PayPal to hold their feet to the fire. Finally PayPal came through, even after 10S tried to give shipping documents that did not hold up under scrutiny. They will keep promising they will ship next week...., then next week...., then next week. I think you get the picture.
the riff behind the long solo (@12:47) sounds a lot like pearl jam's "evenflow" (even the light distortion) but the difference in your playing and Mike McCready's more "soft spoken" & bluesy solos (actually, as I recall, he is soloing most of the song, even behind the vocal, so it was a 5 minute blues solo... and he does without a single "look at me, I'm the guitarist & I'm constipated" face) turns it into a completely different song. I love the blue back on your new guitar (well, I love all of the colors... I have an esp ltd 7-string with very similar paint on the front, but it fades to black and that carries onto the entire back... kind of boring, just like the stock emg pickups that came from the factory). I love how it's there when most manufacturers (and custom shop buyers) don't care what the back looks like. it'll look awesome when the spotlight is on you and shine that bright blue back at audience and belt out a solo with your teeth, Jimi-style. (there's an idea for a lesson: how to play with your teeth!)... I've always wanted a custom guitar and even considered letting rondo five it a try for $800, but I chickened out because of the one guitar I had bought from them. I paid $120 for a strat-style guitar with 2 p90's instead of... well... any other strat configuration I'd seen. the paint was good, not great. there were 3 spots where they laid the paint on too think and let it dry like that. they could sanded it then laid one more coat of paint... but I'm guessing they didn't want to cut into margins. well, too bad they skimped on the wiring on 3 out of the 4 they ended up having to replace at $20 shipping each way. finally, on the 4th guitar, I got one that had 2 working pickups & a working output jack. I could've rewired the whole thing but I was scared to look inside back then. (I've since been forced to put $200 into it. sigh.)
I think one thing that you neglected to mention was the price. I know that 10S sponsored the video so I'm assuming you got the guitar for free, but for the people who are looking to get a custom guitar made, the pricing of the instrument is crucial. You said that it would cost a fraction of what a PRS would cost, but how much is that?
I just ordered a traditional tele style decked out with locking tuners, roasted flamed maple neck, and stainless steel frets and the total came out to 818 usd. Which is ridiculous for what you're getting.
I saw a thread on some forum about their guitars. Apparently they take around 400$ for a custom shop. Pretty cheap, but I guess it depends on the features (pickups, bridge) etc.
Hmmm.... I can see having my total vintage/modern mash up Strat built. Here's what I would want: A roasted maple neck with 22 frets, soft "v" profile, and a 7.25" radius fretboard. Locking tuners are a MUST as would MOP dot inlays. The body would have a transparent racing green finish with a flame maple top over the traditional alder. My pickguard would be black and single ply in a SSS configuration. I would prefer my plastic pieces be more "parchment" in their color. All hardware would be chrome, with a vintage 6 screw tremolo. I'd have Graph Tech saddles, of course Electronics would be a set of Fender's Tex-Mex pickups with all the good 250K CTS pots and Orange drop capacitors and a 5 way switch. Controls would be 1 volume and two tone with the second controlling the bridge pickup. I'd also want a mini push button switch that would engage the neck pickup regardless of position. Nothing too crazy, right lol?
I am pleased to say your taste as far as creating this guitar is bang on with mine. Awesome looking guitar and great tones too! Congrats on a fine aquisition!
Good Lord that's an amazing guitar, I swear it's channels like yours that make me want to pick up a guitar or Bass and learn how to play. I had an old acoustic bass once but had to sell it to pay off a cell phone bill, the only song I was able to play with Boom by pod I self taught myself that I'm almost certain the exact rif was wrong. I'm a drummer by nature but I want to learn another instrument.

I love the over all design. Well done. My favorite part is the headstock. I love that all the strings are in line and as you said, do not bind at the nut because there is little to no angle there. Beautiful instrument. I would buy one.
Congratulations on your new, lovely guitar! It has many common features with the guitar I am designing in my head. I like your explanation about the aurora, and the aesthetic tribute to them. Your review was balanced, with lots of worthy praise, and constructive criticisms. It seems your vision was coherent, and well executed by 10S. It encourages me to put a wish list to a local group here, with the lovely tans and eucalyptus greens that have beautified my life in Australia.
What a beautiful guitar and sounds amazing! Especially with your skills! My favorite part (and maybe this is my 🇨🇦 bias) but is that your colour scheme is based off the Northern Lights, that’s awesome!! Don’t ever get rid of that guitar, it’s a keeper!
What a beautiful fantastic sounding instrument. It's got that vibe that you'd never wanna put it down. I'd have to pick it up every time I would walk by it. Nice addition of the arm contour as it's the thing I've always hated about telecasters feeling too 'boxy'. I have a sanded body ready for a build and I plan on adding the same contours.
I started talking to them about making one for me just after you posted for first video. They are easy to work with and I can't wait to see how mine turns out
I'm extremely envious right now, that is a beautiful guitar you've designed and they've delivered. Also wanted to say I really enjoy your content; informative, fun, and you convey a truly lovely and sincere enjoyment of guitar playing, ownership and maintenance. Please keep it up.
It's got the 4/2 tuners similar to the old Teisco but backwards, the Teisco's have 4 on top and 2 on the bottom. I really like your guitar, simple, beautiful, live the two tone front to back! The attention to detail, knowing you wanted the the forward v design... that's awesome!! I didn't even know that's something you could ask for!

With the design and finish I'd assume $1300-$1400 for this build? Not an outrageous price for a custom build compared to most Custom Shops.
I got my PRS CUSTOM 24 SE FOr 600 Used and in mint condition. It's like a Stienway piano.
He said in his comment that it would be $1000
I just ordered a traditional tele style decked out with locking tuners, roasted flamed maple neck, and stainless steel frets and the total came out to 818 usd. Which is ridiculous for what you're getting.
Amazing work by 10S, I hope they flourish.
Ik this was a colab but how much would something like that would cost? Just wanna know if its worth the money
I saw a thread on some forum about their guitars. Apparently they take around 400$ for a custom shop. Pretty cheap, but I guess it depends on the features (pickups, bridge) etc.
Good question!
Looks like they could do something like this for around a grand :)
Hmmm.... I can see having my total vintage/modern mash up Strat built. Here's what I would want:
A roasted maple neck with 22 frets, soft "v" profile, and a 7.25" radius fretboard.
I'd have Graph Tech saddles, of course
Electronics would be a set of Fender's Tex-Mex pickups with all the good 250K CTS pots and Orange drop capacitors and a 5 way switch. Controls would be 1 volume and two tone with the second controlling the bridge pickup. I'd also want a mini push button switch that would engage the neck pickup regardless of position.
Nothing too crazy, right lol?
Congrats! The flame top is super awesome!
Who else really wants too see him pissed for once
Btw amazing tone
guitar is fun 313 871 Hello he can't get mad. He's Canadian! Lol
He’s Canadian it’s not in their programming to get mad
Darrell and Troggly, yea. Guaranteed increase in subs
We did see him pissed off recently in one of his videos. He didn't looked pissed tho. May not be the type to show it but get even??? Lol
He looks like someone you wouldn't want to mess with. Haha
I am pleased to say your taste as far as creating this guitar is bang on with mine. Awesome looking guitar and great tones too! Congrats on a fine aquisition!
Humbuckers sound so creamy on maple frerboard or is it just me?
Awesome guitar Darrell! Love watching your videos and have been anticipating this one!
Stop talking and do it
@@silverpairaducks there's a little thing called needing money and a job. Neither of which I have at this point in my life but I'm trying to lose the weight so I can get the job. Depression lead to overeating led to morbid obesity which now has led me to trying to fix my life and lose the weight. I haven't even been able to touch my drumset since 2013 it's just been downstairs collecting dust because we had family living with us for a while.
Hey man! There are lots of great deals on used gear on places like Craigslist. If you need some tips on what to look for, let me know. A perfectly serviceable instrument can be had for ~$200
@@Lazy_eye_blobFish may I suggest ukulele. Cheap fun and you are learning the top four strings of guitar so the skill transfers
Ukulele is tuned different than guitar BUT very easy to start on. And you can get a great uke for $100 or $150.
Also, have you seen the band bowling for soup latley? Maybe some inspiration there? Theu are big but still rockin.
Congratulations! Beautiful, versatile, and excellent sounding guitar.
So basically you built a chapman ML3 with a different headstock
The ML3 looks like it's uglier, boring and basic cousin.
Gorgeous guitar! Congratulations Darrell!
4:08 I hate pressure on my nuts...
Congrats Darrell, that thing looks and sounds amazing!
But the guitar is out of tune. It went out of tune almost straight away.
And honestly, the headstock IS ugly.
Most excellent choice.
That song at the beginning is the pinnacle of dad rock.
I love the over all design. Well done. My favorite part is the headstock. I love that all the strings are in line and as you said, do not bind at the nut because there is little to no angle there. Beautiful instrument. I would buy one.
Awesome guitar! You know your stuff designing these and they did a great job making it real. The color scheme is a definite eye popper.
It’s so beautiful! You’re so lucky!
Great honest review of the custom work done by this custom shop. Keeping our standards high help in keeping custom shops in general high.
Dude that looks so freaking awesome. Well done.
Sounds awesome. Love the color too and that neck is beautiful. Also great sounding distortion.
Beautiful guitar! Love the neck and the finish!
The guitar body is a real work of art. Looks like a great instrument!
Awesome guitar😍...awesome work....everything is perfect
