Carl played his heart out, and his colossal gift to us will be eternal. Rest peacefully Carl..you enriched the world 🌎..Most respectfully..Vaughn Nark 🎺
Carl: I loved your comments & stories. My trumpet teacher Bob Haddick played with Bobby Sherwood in the late 40;s and my big band's bass player (for 30 years) Ed Kalfasalso played & recorded with Bobby Sherwood in the 40's. They are both gone now. And you're right - Don Fagerquist was the greatest. He was one-of-a-kind. Your comments about the flat 3rd, flat 7th, flat 5th are what I try to teach jazz students along with the Cm7 to F and then Fm7 to Bb, etc., etc. You are right on! Simple but the basis for learning jazz. And I loved your comment about playing lead not too loud at the beginning. So many lead guys in the Midwest are blasting all the time. And I find that PLAYING is more important than PRACTICING when you get to a certain stage in your playing. What a great interview!
RIP, Carl. Fascinating cat!

Dan Fagerquest has a tone and ideas like none other!
Awesome episode. A lot of valuable info. Thank you
This is great; Carl is laying it down.
A master teacher if only by default because he’s been around the the game so long he’s gained so much wisdom

Yes, Carl recently has passed away. Wonderful talent. Vaughn Nark. Wow!
Where can I get a copy of the changes I’ll be glad to purchase them
Write them out for yourself and you will get more from the exercise.
Carl. You are so correct. Only use the minimum air to get the job done.
What about Larry Meregillano? Great player!
"No, I don't know his playing no."
Looking at this video despite the start...well or no. I won't.
How can you determine a Jazz musician is great if you can't even tell if he's playing the right notes or not?
Tip to the host. NEVER introduce a musician as "the best you never heard."
Well that's how he's been known. As a relative unknown but monster player. Hidden Gem. May he rest in peace.
