The open Mri magnets get "burned" in before they leave the first power on lab, and they have to do 3+ days of cyclical on/off testing. So the superconducting wire can find a stable place for long term operation. MRI service technician.
the electronics do not burn in. However things like imaging sensors do shift with temperature. MRI machines are sensors using coils submerged in liquid nitrogen to achieve superconducting. calibration is internally done with each scan. The coils produce 3T or Tesla/gauss which is the total magnetic output of the earth. So the MRIs typically are ringing the atoms in your body using 3 times the magnet of the entire earth. The ringing of the atoms are turned into 3d images.

Im waiting for Zeo's take on em too. I had the M1570 for a little while. I returned them due to the weight. The clamp force is better than the M1070 though. The vocals are recessed but detailed. But the driver seems a little slow and can smear on really busy music. Overall, I think the M1070 with the side foam and grill removed is the better deal. The M1070 has a resonance issue with he grill. Remove it and its gone. I have a feeling he will love em since he likes the Aivas. He seems to be partial to that relaxed, yet detailed sound.
@@StatusQuo209 Have you listened to the Aivas? I just placed an order for the Blons while the drop is live, but the 1070 has been in the back of my mind for a while. If you have heard them, I was curious how they compare. m1070 reviews aren't the easiest thing to come by.
@@Erik-dm6wg the M1070 sound great. They are the same sound signature as the Audeze LCD series. I have not heard the Audeze, but the guy who runs Monolith did an interview with NTR and he stated that Audeze was the target. The M1060c with the open back sounds oddly similar to an LCD2 according to Josh Valour as well. The sound signature is dark, with recessed and relaxed mids. The bass is there, but not overly strong, but very accurate and detailed. The highs are subdued, yet detailed. The mids feel like they are more off into the distance and not very intimate. I've had the Elex for a little while and now that is a very intimate headphone. The sound signature on the M1070/M1570 is warm, but not the typical warm often experienced with wood cups. I feel this is do to the raised lower mids and upper bass.
The headphones are a joy to listen to if you get one with good clamp force. They do not fatigue. These are all statements usually attributed to audeze LCD series headphones.
I did not listen to the Avia, but I did have the M570 for a little while, which uses the same driver and sounds a little different.
The M570 and the M1070/M1570 is hilariously similar. The M570 has more air and sparkle. That's pretty much it. It sounds sharper because of this, resulting in a less refined sound. M570 vs the new Monoliths? M570 IMHO. or the Blons you ordered. The new Monoliths are too heavy and are not competitive with the existence of the Aiva drivers. If you don't like the Aiva driver sparkle, then yeah, the M1070 might be your calling. But they are surprisingly similar.

@@Erik-dm6wg hey man. You are welcome. On a side note, if you are looking for potential end game planars on the cheap, take a look at the Hifiman Ananda. Those are my end game. They do everything well and excel at a few key things for me being detail and tonality. They are like the planar version of HD800 but you can drive them off a portable usb-c inline dac.
If you are on Android, using UAPP and the Morphit in app purchase, there is an Ananda correction profile that applies a headphone correction to make the Ananda follow the Harman OE Target. This brings up the bass and slightly brings back the forwardness.
Ananda technical excellence + Profile correction truely make them perfect. And you can use em portable. I use it off a Sonata HD S3 Dac/amp.
They are 699 on Amazon. And Amazon has easy returns. The build quality is trash tho. But I look at em like a tuned Dodge Neon SRT-4: it's still a cheap Neon econobox build, but performance is on point.

I have a multimeter that has an ovenised voltage reference. It needs half an hour to reach thermal equilibrium. I could call that "burn-in"...….but I don't.
How do these compare to the Sendy Aivas (back on drop for 479) or any of the clones?

Burn in is very real on planars and I'm glad it's aknowledged by a manufacturer. My Quad Era-1 sounded a bit closed in with an average timbre during the first month of use. Now I rate them higher than my Stax LNS.
About 50hrs it took on my Era's. Notably more open than initially. I really love them...

Your subjective experience is valid, headphones do sound better with time, but it's due to our brains adjusting to the headphone's sound signature. Have you ever experienced burn in where the headphone sounds worse over time? It's always better. Because our brains aren't gonna adjust to make the FR seem worse lol.

life hack: different topic, but when volume matching, if you take a can that has left and right and you use 2 "identical" cables and feed each to the amp and left from one and right from the other to the phone, and listen in mono, would this not make it a lot easier?

Have some Aeon closed and I hate how the foam keeps deforming. Also had issues with the headband always needing to be tightened; have had to order replacements due to them breaking.
I own the Open one. Same problem. Damn, the headband cost a lot too.

Punchy dynamic Extended On top and bottom with superb lush very detailed mids not shouty upper midrange and oh my Gods that low end and texture , resolution everywhere , detail in tracks you did not hear before , soundstage with good imaging , separation and multilayering of instruments ,top of the line mid hifi quality build and comfort , compact alien space looking nicer material production nitinol pleather (nobody got killed and skinned ) they feel look and sound rich quality and very very good , luxurious i would say , that's the proper word . And yeah , no M1060c Open mod can do that for sure , been comparing back and forth for a couple of hours today . Some dummy said they they are muffled , some idiot told they are lackluster on punch , one not genious claimed there is a compression at times not enough resolving or some other stupid shit , you know who said , quot ,they a hair more fun than plain boring..WHHATT !!?? You weirdos better take those pillows out your ears and stop lying to people , these are Superb ! Its my second day of ownership and i am ecstatic , baby , for sure ! Technical death metal , electronic of all kinds , world music , classical , acoustic , hip hop ,Drum n bass , ambient , chillout , psytrance , you name it, everything on'em sounds purely Fantastic, yes ! @@SpykeZ0129 I need to try these Aeon Open X. I think my NightHawk Carbons are the most resolving and refined-sounding headphones I own, even more than my Focal Elegia. I think their treble is perfect. It reaches to the atmosphere and is so revealing of the littlest details.

Drop or company formerly known as Massdrop probably uses the Harman Target Response Curve or Harman Reference Curve for most tuning. I should know because everything i ever used that's tweaked by that standard instantaneously sounds a whole lot better.
Drop's "lab" I think is called Drop Studio.
solid state electronics do not burn in... but... sensitive electronics do slightly change characteristics when powered for a long time. a seven digit multimeter is more accurate after its been on for 24 hours, at least on a fine level. its called warm up, if you turn it off and cool it down, it undoes the effect, unlike "burn in". i believe moving parts do "burn in" but it may not be appreciable. i dont believe the felt has burn in, fiddling with it with your fingers will have a much more massive affect than playing music through it. its right there i draw the line of audiophile snake oil.

Why no mention of these versus the Ether CX? I thought that would have been an automatic since you've also reviewed them.
FTR, what Drop & DCA did to "tune" these was to remove a layer or two from the acoustic paper that covers the driver & add the earpads from the Aeon 2. Those earpads are partially fenestrated on the inside of the pad which supposedly affects the sound. These are definitely things that you should have pointed out in your review.

Probably the reason that now you like them is because back in the day you tested them to Aune X1S and X7S which are terrible amps with such a low impedance planar. Even a dragonfly red is better with the Aeons than Aune Chi-Fi, cause output impedance and dat. This was always a terrific headphone in my opinion and personal experience, despite that some people ''echo'' some reviewer's opinion and call them ''boring''. I don't believe something change internally also.
i have the original AFO as well and i do like them too . i find them to be really power hungry despite the low ohm rating . Whatever anyone says , these are the most comfortable headphones i have every worn . And i'm also skeptical about them sounding better , i don't get how every massdrop version sounds better then the original .
Mrhaoable I know what you mean about power. I am on the search for a high current headamp.. Definitely they need power and especially current.. As far as drop headphones etc I don’t trust anything but my ears. I never pay blindly for a headphone after my total failed purchase of a hyped product. How subjective an opinion can be, may vary significantly... Which amp are you using?

I have been watching all your videos for a long time, I am buying my first pair of open back headphones, each review I watch from your channel leaves me more confuse, I can't decide. I live outside US, I haven't heard any open back in my live and I have no other way of doing it since were I live nobody cares about audio. I need to decide about which can be the best for a first experience with open back planar under $500, I have a little bear b4 and planning to buy a chinese tube amp EL34 for my stereo which have a 6.35mm connection.
25:40 ive been working with carbon fiber a lot making drones and it sorta sounds like metal but feels like plastic, doesnt feels cold to the touch for some reason (maybe the coating insulates it to your skin?) that seems too round to be made out of it though so must be some weird thing
Can anybody compare these to the LCD 2Cs? Obviously, the price on these is great vs LCD 2C but I can bite the bullet on Audeze if its way better. If they're close, I'd want to save with these...

Drop should do a special CB-1. They changed it recently as it is way different than the pair I bought 2 years ago. The pads are not the nice thick, soft ones they were 2 years ago. they are thin and hard. The mounting of the pads makes it really easy to HM5 pad swap though. Still need to break it in to see if they sound the same though. I recommend you do a new review of them.
Zeos: compare these to Sendy Aiva's. Those were God tier in your words. Do they still measure up? Best planars between 300-600? New video coming soon??

First one is very easy: what music player you use on your pc? and second one is little difficult for me: i can't decide what to do. i have focal alpha 80 and now i bought akg 701, but i am not shure what to buy headphone amp or new audio interface. Now I'm using Steinberg UR22C. If Steinberg don't get the best of my focals i prefer an upgrade, but if this interface is ok i will take headphone amp. Blabla thank you 🤗😊

He did release a new Æon open and closed model on his own site as the Æon 2 open and closed. Hard to say how much of this was Drop's doing or the new Mrspeaker's tuning.

Considering there have been stinkers from Drop like the Edition XX I wonder if these are good from being a redesigned Aeon 2 or if these are just based on the OG Aeon. It's not very clear.

Got a Topping D90 MQA / A90 stack paired with Sony MDR-Z1R headphones. I can 100% recommend this (very expensive) combination personally, but the Sony‘s sound signature is polarizing.

thinking of getting these aeons with a magni 3 heresy, was planing on either getting an sp200 or sh-8s from smsl but thanks to amir at audiosciencereview I found out that the heresy can reach the amount of power I nee before the breakover point (where noise shoots up). the atom also has a lower noise floor but it shot up a little sooner andonly has about 100 mv of headroom, and im guessing there is a degree of varience per unit so to be safe I went with the heresy. the sp 200 is a good deal at 160$ right now and its single ended outputs go as high as its baalanced (this is actually because its unbalanced and typical amps give 2v out and balanced is double, but this one was just really good at 4v already so a truly balanced output became unnecessary. unfortunately smsl decided to ruin their product by putting crappy potentionmeters which caused a channel imbalance. (this is how it was done in the 70s and every audio brand still controls volume like this.. its so dumb, at least give me 1 know per pot so I can manually fix it...)

I can confirm on the channel imbalance issues. Maybe I should have mentioned this previously. I started off with an SU-8 and a THX 789. but my THX 789 was broken twice (extremely poor quality control), so I switched to the SP-200. However, the channel imbalance was horrible. The only point where the potentiometer was balanced was at volumes to high to handle. Therefore, I eventually switched to the A90, which I love.
Regarding your choice, the Magni Heresy is the better pick in my opinion. However, the Schiit hardware does bring in slight colorations that have to suit your personal taste and pair of headphones - just like any other amp or pair of headphones. Hence, I‘d suggest going for this combo, giving it a try and - if necessary - returning the parts you don‘t like to switch them out.
A general note: do NOT use audiosciencereview as your only source. They do only rate the DACs and AMPs from a technical point of view, no consideration of sound quality, which may well diverge. However, they are great for measurements like channel imbalance, TDR, etc.

So, you said the Blons have a bit more bass. I'm looking for an upgrade to the Argons that hit a bit harder and I'd like to keep the soundstage that I love with my Argons. Willing to spend a bit more (like the price of the Blons or these is ok). Do you recommend the B20s or something else? I was originally going to give the MMX 300s a shot. Should I stick with those?
Before buying a new headphone have you tried the argons on a crazy powerful amp?
@@HungryCheff just have the Mayflower Electronics O2/ODAC. i'm going to upgrade the amp as well and then whatever I end up choosing, compare them extensively to the argons before deciding to sell them.

Nice review. I really want a new pair of planars, but I have V1 with ori suede pads, and I recently spent £450 on FH7, and I'm still using a mojo as my only amp. So I'm not sure these are for me yet. They're on my wish list though.
Edit: I'm a hospital porter, afaik MRI scanners are always on; you turn them off you ruin the magnets. CT scanners have a warm up process.

Massdrop is making anything outside Massdrop obsolete. Unless it's an insane Black Friday deal on Amazon or you want something hand crafted like ZMF or those modded Fostex.
Burn-in makes sense to me, what with drivers/membranes etc. altering very subtly over time with use- I can buy that, even if it's ultimately so small of a difference as to be unnoticeable.
But felt...burning in felt. I don't know there.

I think peoples brains are burning in getting used to the sound signature, rather than any change in a static product. Of course a product with moving parts is a different story.
