Ryan actually said that he had to go back in his mind and sort of "reach out to" that MMC version of himself in order to prepare for Ken, and had to stop being embarrassed by that part of his past. For numerous reasons, playing Ken was apparently very therapeutic for him.

I absolutely loved this performance. And what’s impressive is he’s the one who had the vision for how the performance played out - starting in the audience, he wanted Margo, America Greta and Emma in the first row so he could go up and let them sing portions of it! He gave it his all. And Mark Ronson killed it writing this masterpiece!

Ryan was actually the co-founder of a band called "Dead Man's Bones" and they did one album by the same title that is--I kid you not--inspired by the haunted mansion ride at Disneyland. So you can imagine the vibes! It's very fun and weird and quirky. You can tell Ryan Gosling and Zack Shields (other co-founder) had a lot of fun with it! There's also some live performance with them and the Silverlake Conservatory Children's Choir, who were featured on the album (the choir was actually started by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, this album is so full of lore).

I remember when I saw him in the movie “Lars and the real girl” and there is this scene where he sings to his sex doll “girlfriend” LOL and he sounded amazing. I appreciate the effort for this video, but a little bit more preparation in knowing the artist's background would make it work so much better. Ryan has been singing since he was a kid, he is a recording artist, so definitely he knows about singing for a long time - he might not be the best, but he's not a stranger to singing or music, overall. Also, Slash and Wolfgang Van Halen played on the original "I'm Just Ken" recording for the movie, so make sense they are performing live. I'm glad that you liked it but you just gave zero effort to know more about the context about anything in this video.

I'm not remotely interested in Barbie or performances like this, but I have watched this like 30 times now. It's so good. So many things came together. It is gold.

Slash is there because in the world of Barbie the best would be present, Slash was perfect so glad someone thought to put him in the performance, I love the whole thing!!! I wouldn't want to hear it sung any other way but this performance.

If you like this you should look up the Christmas version they recorded. It's kind of majestic.

Loved the reaction so went to find your Ren reactions and couldn't find one....what? Hi Ren... is a masterpiece and deserves a watch. Also, Ren doesn't copywrite so if you want you can let it play, as much as you want... if you get a notice his people will make sure it's corrected.

He did. He asked the show producers to make sure they moved seats to be together so they could sing at that part. The choreography was arranged to make sure he was in front of Emma at that part of the song so she could sing as well.

I’m Just Ken May not have won for Best Original Song, but they all did won our hearts though (Congrats to Billie and Finneas though). “What Was I Made For?” was a sad and depressing song I ever heard. I love the live version better because it has a different key than a sad & very depressing studio version. Billie is such an angel. The way she sang it ❤😢

Great reaction. You do know that Ryan in his teen years was part of the singing/dancing/acting group The Mickey Mouse Club on Disney? His fellow members were Justin Timberlake, Britany Spears and Cristina Aguillera. You HAD to be that talented to be one of the 6 or 7 group members. So, that is why he was good in this performance and his performances in La La Land.
