Frank has such a unique sound that he is his own genre at this point. His production and sound mixed with his lyrics and storytelling is so incredibly beautiful and euphoric. He makes me feel things no other artist can!
I remember being high in HS listening this while laying in the grass under the sun on a summer day with my noise cancelling headphones. Changed my life.
the way stephen’s listening to these songs, it’s obvious he’s been through it. Some of these songs are heart wrenching. some of the best music ever made.
I feel that Blond is about frank oceans life from childhood to adulthood and his struggles with relationships and substance abuse. He was a child learning the world and love up until the mom’s call. The mom is calling to check on her son. Solo is the start of Frank’s adult life on his own. The songs after follow his struggle with becoming an adult and how he relies on marijuana and other drugs to make it through life but the entire arch is him realizing his substance abuse is skewing his reality and how he deals with his emotions.
very interesting take, i always saw it more as a take on his struggle with self-identity. As a child you're told to want certain things and strive to be a certain person, whether you're aware of the influence or not. i.e always wanting Nikes. Sometimes you think the love we feel in youth, either towards our parents, friends, life, etc, is this all encomposing thing; when in reality it fades and the memory of joy u felt back then eventually becomes nothing. I think "Be yourself" into "Solo" demonstrates it best. On one hand your mom who raised you and pushed years of morals onto you is saying "be yourself and be true to who you are" but then directly telling him not to do xyz. In a way still trying to shape his experience of life, and solo being a giant F you, i'm going to figure out who I am on my own terms. The rest of the album kind of reads like the highs and lows of self discoery, sometimes euphoric and enriching but can be frustrating and bottomless. Especially when you're young and want to figure out who you are as quickly as you can. But "Nights" is that moment of random enlightenment in the midst of whatever you're doing you realize it's all but the journey. That there's never going to be a "destination", so you accept it and enjoy the ride. Which is why i think the songs after "Nights" is more atmospheric and abstract in sound. Like "white ferrari" being an I'll always love you to his former self/inner child, that although may not be who he is now is somwhere as a part of him. After seeing him perform at coachella it kinda reinforces my beliefe only cuz he brought out a kid and introduced him as his ""inner child". If you read all of this props to you. have a great day and remember; Every day you open your eyes is a blessing.
one of the best reactions of Blonde I´ve ever seen, thanks for sharing this with us guys, great commentary! btw, with the way you liked this album, I´m sure you will love Melodrama by Lorde, another great production-lyrics album
What makes Frank unique for me it’s that’s his storytelling is amazing he literally tells you a story that u can see take place in your mind + his incredible voice of course (loved your reactions guys, keep going!)
I need y'all to react to the album, Omar Apollo - Ivory! This project is one of the most underrated album I've heard of and deserves so much more recognition for his artistry, production and his vocals! Do check it out when possible!
Dawg this nigga on the left is smart as shit. I've been listening to this album for almost 10 years now & I learned like 6 things from this dude. SUBSCRIBING RIGHT AWAY
This is late, and I don’t know of anyone said this already, but I think Close To You is a nod to Stevie Wonder’s talkbox rendition of Close To You by The Carpenters!! I think Frank does his own version of the voice effect that’s why he sounds robotic almost at some points, but I could be reaching; one of my favorites
Please react to Jojos albums!! “Trying not to think about it “ and “Good to Know” . They’re so good!! She is so talented and has made such a comeback but still doesn’t get the recognition she deserves!!
PLEASE LISTEN TO THE ALBUM ENDLESS BY FRANK OCEAN it’s unlike anything I’ve ever heard. it’s not released on Spotify or Apple Music but I’m pretty sure it’s on RUclips or SoundCloud.
ruclips.net/video/AHLFNoT64HQ/видео.htmlsi=lEj8cx0In9b0m1Wt This is a visual video for it which is symbolic in itself and I don’t even know what it really means and also ENDLESS NEEDS TO BE TALKED ABOUT MORE
