Sorry for your loss. I was about to show this album to my mom until her 9 year old step son passed unexpectedly last week. Unfortunately it’s far too soon but maybe some day it will be a comfort.
@@raisinbran1001 I’m pretty sure you can only access that if you had bought the ticket for the concert but even still, I explored around the area a bit and walked around the statues and stuff and it was fascinating
I listened to an interview and Tyler said this song is about someone he knew who passed away and his family left his room the exact way he had before he died. Tyler is a beautiful writer
“Redecorate,” the closing track on Scaled And Icy, tells the story of three people and the thoughts that go through their heads before they die as they worry about the impact this will have on their families. These worries are symbolized by the future purpose of their bedrooms and as the characters will not be using them anymore, they feel the urge to tie up loose ends before they leave, something that can be applied to both personal belongings and emotional unfinished business. Frontman Tyler Joseph shared that “Redecorate” was inspired by an actual scenario where a friend of his preserved the room for their son who passed away, and that its message is important to him. Source: Genius.
This song is about a family friend of Tyler Joseph’s whose son committed suicide. Part of the grieving process and struggle of the family was do they keep their sons room or redecorate and act like he was never there. When talking about suicide it’s not really something that’s important or a thought you have. But if the pain of losing a loved one in that way wasn’t enough, having to decide if you want to be reminded of them every day or erase their presence is even more painful.
At the end of the first hearing of the album, when I heard "I repeat - scaled back and isolated", it's like a lightbulb flipped on in my head. I could suddenly see the greater picture. I live for this feeling.
Good reaction! One of my favorites on this album. I also think the album builds and this is a transition song to the next album. They're always thinking way ahead. The sounds in the album transition out of the retro through the decades as you listen. Just like life. Entire album is completely awesome!
@CATch_Me! yea im always wondering, is clancey being dead the lie their telling us so we lose hope, or are they glorifying his death through propaganda, like vialism and the neon gravestones
Clancy is the Character from their last album trench, which he was stuck in this place controlled by some evil big bad group DEMA. This album Is supposed to be the DEMA group using Tyler and Josh as propaganda. I'm not sure what it all represents with Clancy being dead and there is alot more to it but there's the general idea.
I feel like Clancy is the one escaping DEMA during this album, after his escape in bounce man the bishops come for him (no chances). to finish it off Redecorate is almost like clancy's suicide note (because it's ride or die). His death however could also be propaganda.
1:51 they made this thing where they put up Tyler's sheets where he wrote the original lyrics to the songs and you can see how he changed some parts in other songs too
There is a huge lore behind the Trench album, it continues to this one. Also you can see some hints of it on the live stream event, if you manage to find it (YT has removed most of the videos).
Great reaction! This is my favorite ToP song, it just resonates with me so much and just sounds so perfect musically. It hits hard and makes you think. A great song
Redecorate was immediately my girlfriend and my favorite song, and when we learned the meaning behind it made it just that much deeper. Thanks for the breakdown, it was cool to learn more about the musical side of it!
dude I love your videos🤩 , to give a bit of an insight into the Twenty One Pilots world I suggest watching the Pop Song Professor's vid - DEMA for Dummies . He also gives great explanations for most of their songs , I would write a summary but I'm sure I'll miss some details .
Notice how at the top it says "display" crossed out with "redecorate" written above it and also notice how the chorus ends with "should I keep it on DISPLAY or REDECORATE?"
OK. OK. These lyrics are legit concerning. Listening to “orders from the corner where the shadow lived” and “not wanting to see what’s behind” her reflection, are they referring to demons they fight for control of their life? Or taking their life? Because it sounds like “should they keep it on display or redecorate” is what parents have to decide about kids rooms if they pass away. 😢. I sure hope “clean up my room” means getting their life together. I’m sure someone in the Skeleton Clique can explain????
this song is inspired by a friend of the singer, tyler, who lost their son years ago and still has the son's room exactly as it was when he died because they can't bring themselves to change it. this made tyler think about what his family would do with his stuff if he were to pass away. but yes, the lyrics are a metaphor telling you think about your decisions, because when you leave, they are what is left of you, what people will remember you by.
plus, that's just not everyone's thing. i've been following their work for six years now and never really cared about theories. i guess that makes me less of a fan...
As a mom that has had to decide wither to “keep it on display or redecorate “ this song hits to the core of my soul.
I am so sorry to hear that tina.....

These are Tyler's original and revised lyrics in his handwriting.

Redecorate gives Trench vibes, or even Banditos vibes. No Chances gives Blurryface vibes, some Lane Boy vibes.
Totally. But I think no chances have both albums vibes Idk
No chances is extremely unique. I mean doubt is an attempt of a trap song but it fails and levitate is a very less electronic trap song

Tyler did say there was a second album coming.
Nobody knows who Clancy is, but he wrote the letters that introduced us into Dema's lore and now, he's dead (we don't know how did he died).
Propaganda. Clancy isn’t dead

@@abyss3622 that's a pretty good theory I feel like we'll get a mv from redecorate that goes back into ther more dark styled world of trench
