- Summary: Individuals with disabilities need safe, affordable, and accessible places to live. Because most people with I/DD are considered very low-income and live on Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Social Security Disability Income (SSDI), finding affordable housing is challenging. The cost of housing in Washington has skyrocketed, making it out of reach for many. The state has also not adequately invested in affordable housing for individuals with I/DD and now faces a deficit of more than 37,000 units. We need to ensure that we have enough safe, affordable accessible housing for individuals to live in our communities.
