What do I think about the blue shell? I entered a Mario Kart 8 tournament at the local library back around 2014-2015 when the game had just come out. It ended up being me and some girl in the final race, with the computers set to easy. I was using my boy Shy Guy and the course was Sunshine Airport. I was in first from the get-go, and I kept on widening my lead as the race went on. Then, on the final lap, she got a blue shell and then a triple red shell back to back, and I lost. That blue shell cost me the $20 Gamestop gift card, and I can only imagine how different my life would have been with that sweet, sweet GameStop cash. I will forever despise the blue shell for that moment.

The blue shell isn´t a good idea in my opinion. Ben vs Ryu was a great example. First match there was no blue shell and so it was all about skill. Ryu won by playing well. Second match Ryu was in front and only lost to Ben by the blue shell. So basically someone from the farthest backline decides that Ryu gets in second. I think the blue shell should be replaced by something that helps someone in the backline get back to the middle

My #1 tip for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is to try to have 10 coins for as much of the race u can it makes a huge difference in speed and finishing races in a shorter time(winning)
I think that being locked into 3 course does actually make sense because otherwise there'd be courses that you were playing all the time and other courses that never came up

They don't let you pick any map, since if they did people would only vote for their favourite tracks (the popular maps), and as a result the less popular ones would rarely if ever get picked.

It's the same as how I don't care how awful Chicken McNuggets are because I don't eat at McDonalds anymore. With that said, Ryu, you're clearly wasting your skill when playing Mariokart. How about playing some actual skill-based racing sims where your abilities can truly shine and you don't have to pray for blue shells to hit your opponent or get gimped by coins in boxes despite being a highly skilled player?
VR doesnt tell you anything about skill but only about how much someone played in this game, right? When I remember correctly you never lose VR but only gain in this game? Edit: Oi, the last 3 actually do lose points

You'll never get it unless you're doing so poorly that you won't benefit from it. That said, I think the carving to go straight and somehow be faster stuff is dumb, too. Mario Karts just went in a direction I don't want to go.

Good because it is an equalizer of sorts and this is a chaotic party game where RNG mixes it up at any time. That's a large part of the appeal, like Nintendo's new golf game. Nintendo multiplayer games trend toward silliness that is difficult to take seriously... Smash Bros being a notable exception.
I LOVE the blue shell. But...well...I'm sooooo bad at Mario Cart. So I'm happy that there is at least a little way for bad players to take revenge against the good players. :-P
The blue shell is alot easier to get in 8Deluxe. I say, get rid of the horn, Crazy8 and coin. And make the blue shell only obtainable in 10,11&12th place with lower chances. Also they should use the winged one instead, but that's just nostalgia talking (Mario Kart Double Dash FTW)
Here are some tips and bits of useful information. I don't know if you would consider this as a spoiler so I will let you decide if you read this comment or not. Knowledge can't be unlearned. I put in roughly 350 hours. My VR score was around the 12k-18k range. I think the limit is either 49,999 or 99,999 I don't remember which. Higher VR players when against lower VR players gain less points for wins and loss more points for loses so they don't tend to stick around those lobbies for long they usually leave those lobbies and try to get into a lobby with players with similar VR Personally I don't like getting hit by blue shells. I am a somewhat competitive player and I tend to be in first a lot. Getting hit by a blue shell is never fun. That being said I do think it should be in the game. Mario Kart is a racing game with items. The blue shell is just another item. Those in first don't like it because they get the negative impact of it so their opinions on it might be a little biased. But I understand it's importance in the game as a whole or trying to see it from the perspective of all players as a whole. What items a player gets is determined by their distance away from the player in first place. So if it's a tight race and everyone is close together the chance of items like blue shells and lightning are lower and if everyone is spread far apart the chances increase for those items. you can't get double coin items so it's best to hang onto your coins until after you get a 2nd item. Using your coins right before an item box is just asking to receive more coins. If you want more competitive play, tournaments is the place to go. There are some options available when creating tournaments you can choose the CC and what type of items players will get. I think you can even remove items altogether.

Make the blue shell hit the top three. Guy in tenth throws that shell, all it does is let second close on first. Does next to nothing for anyone else.

Having 10 coins adds 20cc to your top speed
So you go 170cc in 150cc, 220cc in 200cc when you have 10 coin it makes a huge difference
