Not a stupid idea overall, and much less than 200 megatons would be enough actually. The wave from the enemy bomb would spread in a circular pattern, you only need the opposing wave you send to take care of the fraction that's actually going towards you. Detonating a nuke would be stupid tho. If you detonate a 500m wave 5km away from your coastline to counter a 500m wave 10km away from your coastline, you'd counter the enemy wave but considering it spreads in a circular pattern you'd also create a 500m wave going towards you. What you need is a straight line of explosives parallel to your coastline that directs a straight wave specifically away from you and towards the enemy wave, like an earthquake would do. Worse case scenario you create a tiny wave going towards you on top of the 500m wave going towards the enemy wave, but that's a much better alternative than a full size tsunami lol.
@Molanda Moseley of the FBI I know they can't make that big of a wave, I've actually explained this in a comment dumbass. The principle of countering one wave with another is still a valid solution to any wave of any size, you should know that if you payed attention in your bath. I used the 500m example because it's the one used in the video and I didn't feel like explaining why 500m can't be done with 200 megatons a second time.
@@luckyluke5638 The problem with this theory is that waves traveling toward each other pass right through each other. They subtract or add where they meet, but continue as usual once they pass through each other. You would have to create the counter wave in the same direction as the giant oncoming wave, but it would have to an exact inverse of the oncoming wave, at the exact same wavelength, otherwise you risk making the oncoming wave even larger. But I'm not sure you can even create an inverse wave with a bomb, because all the bomb does is push more water, instead of pulling the water like you would need it to do.
Russia loves to depict it as creating this massive tsunami that could cover the entirety of the United Kingdom. But in reality it's a 2 megaton weapon so it would only be effective in blanketing a small coastal region in water (that helps narrow down the large scale targets to defend). I'm skeptical of the claim that you can generate a tsunami this large, simply because natural tsunamis involve earthquakes, volcanoes, and landslides of far larger "energy yields". And, we've done many underwater nuke tests before (up to 3 megaton) and the resulting local tsunamis, while considerable (8-10 foot), were nowhere near this scale. There may be some special cases where this is possible but I do not think it is generalizable to most cases.

if russia made a bomb like that they would be screwed, most of classical lands of russia arent that much higher then sea level. the prairies of the us and canada are way higher then sea level.
It is just a radioactive splash of water. Unlike the Tsunami that has 'FLOW', such nuclear detonation at shallow shelf is just splashing water in comparsion. The fallout is probably the worst of the whole ordeal, but an air blast will do potentially better if not intercepted.
While this video is 3 years old we have found out more about the Poseidon. Russian claims of 100 mega ton war head was over played the Poseidon is armed with a 2 mega ton warhead that has been salted with cobalt 60 which makes the radiation worst. The Poseidon is powered by a nuclear power plant, nuclear power plants are noisy and Russian's are the most noisy. The Poseidon is the size of a small submarine, think the size of a WWI submarine at 65 feet. Virginia class submarines can track and engage the Poseidon.
=THEY WONT...............THERE'S ACTUAL LIMITS TO DETECTION........AND VIRGINIA CLASS DOESNT SWIM LOWER THAN 1500FEET WHEN THIS ONE WILL BE MOVING ON 3000FEET OR LOWER WITH TOO MUCH LOW SPEED....... .........ONLY HOPE WILL BE WHEN IT'LL MAKE A RUSH AT FINAL POINT BUT IT'S TOO LATE AND SOME OF THEM WILL DO THE JOB
I've had a re occuring dream since moving to California in 1999, the coast line is hit by a massive tsunami, im in a diffrent area each time it hits but this bomb makes me wonder if that dream ever comes true becuase the Size of the tsunami would demolish California flooding abd destroying all coastline cities
Build under ground shelters with enough food and oxygen to last till the water flows back to the ocean. Build several tsunami walls Float up in a weather balloon, blimp, or balloons attached to a chair, or surround the whole chair with balloons to protect yourself from any impact. Build vertical water barriers under water to lower the tsunami. Engage the tsunami before it crestses, and go over it
For some reason the movement of the Poseidon drone creeps me out. It just creeps along incredibly slow before speeding to life. It’s strangely ominous.
actually that thing can outrun every single torpedo out there. And the guy really oversold the intention. Nobody meant to use cobalt bomb. Just regular superpowerful nukes.
The One World Trade Center is 1,776 feet and 541 meters. Its only big because of its spire but still can obviously be destroyed by a 500 meter tsunami. There is like 4 new towers that are also tall and is taller than that tsunami, but not more than the One World Trade.
Minefields or static sonars that could counter with torpedos perhaps could detonate it further away from shores but still the nuclear devestation in the area would basically destroy that part of the sea.
The thing I don't get is doesn't a tsunami 500m tall and probaly quite long and just the ocean it was detonated in disperse the radiation into small doses
1. Great Sea Wall (Mega project, most protection). 2. Military Sonar Sea Fortresses (Most economic & efficient +anti torpedoes defenses & offenses). Sea Floor Mapping Ultra Sonar Cameras (Detect 500 km deep under water, nuclear torpedoes 1 km). There's more, H. I. Sutton the US analyst who specializes in submarines and sub-surface systems said, “Poseidon is fast and can dive deeper than regular submarines. *Fortunately it is likely to be noisy enough that well positioned sensors will be able to detect it.* The problem will be how to actually neutralize it. New weapons will need to be developed.” 1. A network of both fixed and air-droppable underwater hydrophone arrays, much like the Cold War’s SOSUS network, to listen for signs of an approaching Poseidon. These listening posts would have their own torpedo mines-encapsulated homing torpedoes anchored to the seabed and launched on command-to intercept the apocalypse torpedo. 2. Poseidon is such a dangerous weapon that multiple options will probably be necessary to ensure stopping an attack. Sutton believes that hypersonic weapons launched from Virginia-class submarines could provide a speedy means of intercepting a Poseidon. Traveling at speeds in excess of Mach 5, a hypersonic weapon could act quickly on a Poseidon sighting. The Poseidon’s high speed should also prompt the development of a new generation of western torpedoes. Future heavyweight torpedoes could carry payloads of multiple smaller torpedoes. After all, Poseidon itself is smaller than a conventional submarine and wouldn’t need much of an explosive charge against its hull to neutralize it, and the more hunters hunting the better. 3. Stopping Poseidon would also mean going after the launch platforms, and when it enters service in 2027 the giant torpedo will be carried by at least two submarines, the Sarov and Belgorod. Sutton warns that complicating matters, “Poseidon could be launched from under the ice cap, making the launch platform harder to neutralize before launch.” The U.S. Navy’s three Seawolf-class nuclear attack submarines, designed to operate under pack ice, will be especially suited to destroy these Russian submarines before they can launch their torpedoes. One system that won’t work against Poseidon? Existing U.S. and NATO missile defenses and proposed space-based defenses. “The Poseidon nuclear torpedo is likely a response to missile defenses. The development of space based missile defense might not have been on their radar when they started development twenty years ago, but Poseidon will be immune to that also.” A nuclear war is bad enough, but Poseidon turns the awful knob to 11 and breaks it off. *It is not an invincible weapon and can be stopped-with the right tech.*
How do you cancel out a wave? Destructive interference occurs when waves come together in such a way that they completely cancel each other out. When two waves interfere destructively, they must have the same amplitude in opposite directions.
Potential solution: You need to figure out where these bombs would need to be set off in order for the wave to make landfall, and create a perimeter of sensors / bomb triggers that effectively blow up, setting off the nuke at a safe spot / deeper underground, so that the tsunami takes place in a suboptimal spot. An under water anti missile defence system. Another potential solution: Somehow create an asymmetric tsunami that you can trigger to counteract the other tsunami -- having the two collide. This seems less feasible, you will have less water to work with, and be closer to civilization, resulting in collateral damage. You could try nuking the tsunami so you can vaporize the water -- effectively using the tsunami to make your nuke act as an under-water nuke because it was dealing with a similar volume of water.

Thank you, master, you are very wise
Live in central areas of Canada. No natural disasters other than rare tornadoes, weak earthquakes and blizzards that are not deadly if you are prepared. No chance of tsunami even a 500m one. Not many insects or animals that will kill you. Low chance of getting hit by a nuke and not much population for the zombie apocalypse.

@@LukeTEvans That's why it said it is last resort. If they need to be used it means that Russia is already going to fall.

Surf the wave and die in the most awesome way possible!
Build under ground shelters with enough food and oxygen to last till the water flows back to the ocean.
Build several tsunami walls
Float up in a weather balloon, blimp, or balloons attached to a chair, or surround the whole chair with balloons to protect yourself from any impact.
Build vertical water barriers under water to lower the tsunami.
Engage the tsunami before it crestses, and go over it
Easy: Just stop the wave by throwing more bombs at it
That doesn't actually sound like too bad of an idea, what about a counter tsunami to cancel out the forces?

Build that wall!
New weapons will need to be developed.”
1.
The development of space based missile defense might not have been on their radar when they started development twenty years ago, but Poseidon will be immune to that also.”
A nuclear war is bad enough, but Poseidon turns the awful knob to 11 and breaks it off. *It is not an invincible weapon and can be stopped-with the right tech.*
Me watching this aft the US announces it lost vision of this lol

They dont want a solution. It is on the back of the new $100. It shows a tsunami bomb hitting new york with waves crashing overtop sky scrapers. Good luck finding a video. RUclips has deleted/hid them. It will be a inside job.
