    Walt you are a helluva stand up guy! I really appreciate your mostly unbiased opinions. You like to talk about "real world" seneros, that the average consumer might experience. Love your videos, I hope you keep on making content for the masses.

    Another great video Walt. I'm a dyed in the wool believer of 32.1 in all my saws. To my way of thinking 50:1 is fine for water cooled engines like outboards and bikes but the aircooled certainly don't mind the little bit of extra oil. My 4 go to saws are all 20 plus years old with no shortage of hours on them and still perform the way I want after all these years. I have of late been eyeing off the g288 and it's good to hear your thoughts on it now that yours has a few hours on it. I am looking forward to seeing how the 395 shapes up over time, yours sounds like it's starting to wake up now its had a few tanks through it.

    Your not boring walt. There's nothing wrong with putting your saws through the paces before telling people this works or doesn't work. To me thats better than someone who's always saying there way is the only way.

    Always a good videos by Walt. I do have a interesting question on if you have messed with any of the older sears clinton and Ted Williams 5.5hp outboard engines or not? Had a few questions on well the clinton 5.5 that I have that was stripped of parts.

    I know what gas and oil you run - Husqvarna XP at 32:1 with Husqvarna bar oil. Both of these are good oils even though 32:1 is a little thick for me. I run Stihl HP ( orange bottle) at 45:1 and Echo Premium Bar oil or Stihl Woodcutter (orange bottle) bar oil. I like the Echo bar oil in cold weather and the Stihl bar oil in hot weather. Actually, I buy the cheapest premium bar oil I can get. I have a jug of 40:1 for my MAC saws and other saws that run 40:1. I run Echo Power Blend Gold or Red Armor in them. I run premium non ethanol gas in all gas mixes.
    I never touch a saw in the field. If a saw gives me a problem I just shut it off and grab another saw. I usually take four saws with me. If one gets dull or is not running right it is replaced by another saw. This seldom happens, except for the dull part. My worst problem is getting a saw stuck in a log, especially if I am bucking big stuff on irregular land.
    That 395 cuts good but 25# saws are not my cup of tea.

    I have their 288 and like you my oilers not working. I will get one of these when it comes out in orange. I used to only have 2 saws until I discovered farmertec. Now I have 7.

    Great advice! I can attest to the fact that taking ones time to research and put together the best components of your system as a whole will reward you with a more efficient and enjoyable experience while performing ones job. This process also gives you a baseline to which to compare new components and theories much faster. As I have gotten older I find myself putting a much higher value on my time than I once did. Going to the woods everyday with the best system one has already developed makes for a far more rewarding experience in all aspects of the job. Another fine example of slow (boring to some) and steady wins the race. I usually put log savors or fritch savors in when I buck the logs and see cracks developing. It looks like you put some in the butts already. They help on alot of trees but there are always those, especially ash that want to split themselves into firewood no matter what one does. This is a good test for that g395 and a role you may find you like it for. Felling big trees with a 32" Tsumura or Stihl light bar may be another ;)

      So where can u buy the hammer/log save setup ? ( Magnetic Hammer )

    • @230e4
      @230e4 2 года назад

      @@afleetcommandU-C Coatings LLC in Buffalo, Ny. On their site they are under "Log Stitches" Contact your log buyer if you are dealing with one especially and see what product they prefer before you buy. Some buyers if they are the ones purchasing your logs from you, they may give you LogSavors for them. I do not use the metal ones very often anymore as most mills prefer the plastic ones. I deal with one mill that does not like alot of them in saw logs because they sell the sawdust and do not want plastic in it. I use the 4" LogSavors and hammer most. I find it works the best and while more expensive than the Flitchsavers you will use less of them. Also you can install their LogDawgs with the 4" hammer. There is a bit of a knack to installing them and the system is $ but what you save in board footage (especially in ash logs) quickly pays for itself. As you probably already found it is best to wait till you have enough out for bid before you cut and trim the logs. The sooner after cutting you install the savors the better, although be careful in extreme cold when the logs are frozen as hammering on them can cause them to crack more.

    I’ve been pondering getting another firewood saw. I have a 55 rancher, a 455 rancher and a 461. I don’t want to overwork the 461. I was debating the 288 and 660, but the 395 has jumped to the top of the list.

    Hello again Walt, I really like your way of thinking on this about changing 1 thing at a time and make sure it's a proven before taking to a jobsite on someone else's dime....and you just happened to mention race fuel well I have 2 of the original 550xp saws and even with all the updated firmware both saws have always been terrible at restarting on hot days so a couple weeks ago I decided to mix up some AV gas mix for 1 of the 550xp I just rebuilt and believe it or not that saw hasn't had a bit of trouble restarting on a hot day since I went to the airport and got AV gas and I've ran almost 2gal through that particular saw and always 1st pull after shutting down hot....and them auto tune saws would get me so pissed off I've sent them flying in the woods before!!! So was just wondering if you've ever tried this or seen this with your experience?? Thanks

    • @afleetcommand
      @afleetcommand  2 года назад

      I have run the high octane fuel in my milling operations years back. Less btu per unit volume means a cooler running saw for one, and there may be different characteristics relative to boiling into a vapor lock as well.....guess actions speak volumes if it works right? None of my Autotunes have had that hot start issues. All my 562's have been tweaked and my focus was heat management....so many ways to skin a cat :)
