Agree with your review. Lado was a good director, good eye and good visual storyteller. As you say the film starts off really well, that repetitive Morricone piece I think is one of the best in any film for atmosphere / mood and drawing us into the imagery. The interesting cinematography / editing drops away somewhat as the film lulls. Overall would recommend if you like 70’s Italian genre films but as you say that saggy middle so to speak does for it being a must see. Thank you for the review.

Aldo Lado is pretty cool! He did Late Night Trains which is basically an Italian Last House On The Left but much more bleak. And he did Short Night Of Glass Dolls, that one has a pretty unique plot for a giallo I'd say! Would totally recommend both of those.

I really like this one, but I’m a huge Bond fan, so the novelty of having the one-hit-wonder Lazenby in a Giallo flick probably smooths over some of the cracks. It’s not perfect (Lado’s Short Night of Glass Dolls on the other hand is masterful, I _highly_ recommend it) but I really enjoy it, despite a weak conclusion.
A shame that they couldn’t do an interview with Lazenby about the film as he has just officially retired from showbiz for good and isn’t doing any more film work, interviews or public appearances. Always wanted to know his thoughts on the film and the making of it, I think it’s probably his best performance as an actor despite being dubbed over and it proved he was not as shabby as the critics said he was, he simply needed practice.
Had he done more Bond films I’m sure he’d be one of the best rather than worst actors to take on the part, although I personally never took issue with him, I thought he was a great Bond, just the weakest of the lot.

Having not seen much Bond myself, I didn't even realise there was someone who came into the role just for one movie, so was interesting to learn about it, and yeah he seems pretty good in this film.
Will have to check out Short Night of Glass Dolls, thanks for the recommendation!

Hi horrorfanandy, please check out this link to a hilarious youtube clip with George Lazenby from the Australian exploitation doco "Not Quite Hollywood" when he made "The Man From Hong Kong" in Australia in 1975 regarding being set on fire ! Cheers from Downunder

Knowing what Lazenby sounds like, it's jarring to hear him dubbed over. English dubs of Italian films usually make the films unintentionally funny. An exception being Suspiria which I felt made it more unsettling.

Yeah it can really kill the mood of a film, I thought it was alright in this though, but saying that I've not heard Lazenby before haha!

Chuck Norris dubbing in Slaughter In San Francisco was jarring as well

Not agree with you. It's a good film. Shot before Don't Look Now. Have a loving scene much similar. Lado is one of the best. He co write, without credit, The bird with crystal plumage. The Argento family pay him a lot of money for disappear on main title.
