A truly beautiful song from one of Britain's, indeed the world's, greatest songwriters. I love the studio, orchestrated version of this hugely, but to watch Donovan's marvellous and knowledgeable guitar playing coupled with that superb voice makes one appreciate true talent, a real songwriter. Another superb song of his is Get Thy Bearings...what an arrangement on an awesome composition.

This spare arrangement best suits this most beautiful of pop compositions. The other versions I have heard both his and others seem overproduced to me.

He is in the same category as John Lennon or Dylan that way. And a lot more fun to listen to than Nick Drake! Not to mention someone who actually touched millions.

Gads ... I was a major Donovan fan in those days. Played a lot of his material in the old Detroit-area coffee houses. Great to hear this.
The 'Firefly Platform' was the small folk music stage at the back of the One Tun pub, on Goodge Street. Pub's still there, but the stage is long gone.

I love this version more than the original. Don't get me wrong, I love the original but something about the acoustic version has me calm.

Judy does it better imho. She has a tallent for improving on the originals, something of a Eva Cassidy forerunner in a way.
Judy sings well, but this song isn't one of her better efforts. Poor dynamics, and it comes out sounding emotionally flat. Donovan nails it.
