inexplicably touching. the guitar in the second verse and the repetitive drums and his voice and the lyrical intimacy that still holds monotony its justttt idk i feel too much
when I first listened to his stuff it sounded like such an Elliott knockoff to me lol.... when I talked to him at a show recently he said he exhausted es's discography listening to it when he was younger so he agrees that he was probably influenced by him which made me happy
totally. independence day by ES I think has a very similar sounding intro melody. but it doesn't derivative just very influenced. first time hearing and loved this
The trouble with a lot of these indie artists is that their music is so much better live. The stuff that they record alone is so quiet and weird and then they play it with other musicians and they rock out. He takes a quiet song and makes it a banger. This is partly because of the lack of collaboration involved in the solo artist bedroom rock scene, there's always more energy when you're playing together with other musicians in front of an audience, not in your room. But it's also a problem because, while we the fans dig that kind of mellow weirdo music that reflects our own grungey black souls, it makes it more difficult to get other people or other, older generations into their music: They might love the songs live, but the album is not their taste, and that's a barrier. I notice this with other indie musicians especially from the Austin scene who's live performance is very different and much more energetic than their recorded output.

I don't think this is a problem at all, lo-finess must be respected if you ask me
Not really
mad jeff mangum, neutral milk hotel and elephant 6 collective vibes
didn't even realise it until i read this comment, but definitely. imo not jeff mangum specifically, just generally an elephant 6 vibe
not beatles-y enough to be elephant 6
Honestly the new Soaker bassline that they do live is way better than this.
