Nice, I was wondering about the holding strength of an external patch, but yours seems good. Thanks for posting.
I did this 3 years ago and I can confirm the repair is still holding.
Got a 1995 Chevrolet firetruck that had the reservoir start leaking parts don't exist was tempted to try this before messing with a universal glad to see it might work gonna try it tomorrow
Awesome set of videos. Can you please make one about changing supercharger oil?
Great suggestion however in Australia we don't have the SC model. I will pass your message onto Samay His RUclips Channel is Previa Legend ruclips.net/user/lovemelovemyprevia
Great video. Mine is the round one leaking at the seam so not sure if the sealant will work as I think it expands at the seam. Will give it a go though to see if it works.
@@JohnSmith-os6yx it did work but I put a lot on. Not sure how long i will last
Yes I did and it's still good on my van
I have a Toyota Lexus that has developed a fine crack under its expn tank! replacement some £150 (~$200), so I will definitely try your solution.
(Just to add for metal radiators themselves they really need brazed or welded which I have have done often in the past, if leak is accessible).
This repair I did it still repaired. You will be fine as long as you make sure the area is clean and roughed up a little.
@@TaragoPreviaEstima Done exactly as you said, cleaned area with meths and scrubbed with scotchbrite pad. Used the exact Permatex you used, put it all back together allowed 24hr cure. It's holding just fantastic, no more coolant loss. Thankyou TT you saved me the expense of a new expansion tank about $200.
@@tomctutor Brilliant I am happy it helped. This clip was posted 1 year ago and the repair on my reservoir is still good as well. Permatex is great stuff. I have used it on many things and it has never failed. your repair will last a very long time. Cheers
Thank Youuuuu those tips are awesome... Way to save time and$$$. Man as you deserve best ☺️ Christmas 🎄 and blessings life for you and family. Thank Youuuuu for sharing always the best of your vocation.
Happy Holidays and god bless your family and you as well.
@@TaragoPreviaEstima 2/9/21. I didn't received your valuable videos this year. Would you please tell me from where you make your videos. I have little situation to find the drive shaft center support for my 92 Previa. In Palm Springs California that model is so rare to find... just maybe used parts.. New are so spendsive $1.600 dollars and I have to buy all parts not that part in specific...
@@eugeniamuniz9844 Hi buddy, I am in Australia. The man you want to talk to is Samay. He is a Previa legend and he lives in America. @@TaragoPreviaEstima I still love your videos and excelente información .. thank youuuu for your kindness. My respects and admiration for you...
Smarter than the last guy who used hi temp rtv lol.
2023 and gonna try this for my Zafira Tourer 2015. Hope to find plastic weld tomorrow morning and maybe back on the road soon.
Take your time to do the repair right and it will last a long time. My repair from 2 years ago is still good.
Leaking expansion tank on 2008 Toyota Sienna is either replace the tank with the fan shroud ( one piece not sold separately ) or as I did by going to wrecker and buying a used tank from a different car ( Honda in my case ) and installing that for far cheaper . It works and that is good enough for me. Sienna tank seems to be too close to the cat converter shield hence it dry's out the plastic and cracks happen. From what the forum says this seems to be another common complaint!
I often wonder what engineers were thinking when they decide things like that. I love DIY idea's good job.
Me here, my oval tank from my 98 is leaking at the front. Where that Oval levels shape is seems to be an inserted piece, as liquid is leaking around the sides and seem to dig out as a disc. The Japenese market seemed to go back to the square tank too. (possibly because of this flaw in the oval tank)
The shape of the reservoir you repaired lends itself to cracking, as it is pressurised every time it reaches operating temp..
I recon the ball shape would better from that point of view ..
Understood, That thought has crossed my mind as well however the reservoir tank has lasted 28 years so far and I like it's shape more. For now while it works I will keep using it and keep the other as a spare.
Good video mate 👍
Thanks for the visit
This looks like a great option for an older car for which replacement parts are hard or impossible to find. I will try this on my 1984 Oldsmobile 98. I don't want to scour the junkyard for a replacement, because that part might also be bad.
Hey,is there any chance of any if the epoxy breaking down and entering your cooling system?
Not a chance. Plastic Weld becomes a very strong plastic and will never break down.
The best way to repair this if absolutely necessary would be to cap off both holes and put tank under a vacuum to suck epoxy into leaks from the outside since it would hard to do from the inside.
That's a good idea. The repair I did is still working.
Mines has a hole in the coolant can I use that to cover the hole (about 1 in big) temporarily?
On the tank like I did yes you can. If the hole is already 1" big it would be better to replace the tank however as for a temporary fix it should work.
💝
Did this repair last or did it eventually fail ?
Still fixed.
I don't think you needed the yellow tape to do this...
No, the tape was not needed. It just helped to keep the repair tidy and to help keep focus of where the repair was mainly needed. The repair is still good as well 7 months on.
How’s it holding up mate?
I posted that clip just over 1 year ago and it's still holding up. no leaks.
@@TaragoPreviaEstima amazing. I’ll need to do that to my 90 Capella since I can’t find new tanks anymore 👍
