45 years old! the first movie to truly explore the magnificence of the bond between man and horse before 'Black Beauty', before 'Horse Whisperer', before 'Secretariat' renowned filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola tells the amazing journey of a young boy named Alec and this black graceful animal based on the 1941 book of the same name it's interesting to see them both bond for survival but also building up that trust, the first half has some beautiful scenery along with a powerful score almost no dialogue is present which is perfect since the visual storytelling speaks for itself with the boy and the horse making that connection yeah the 2nd half is pretty standard stuff but again the focus is on Alec and this stallion's freedom and of course there's the infamous climax during the actual race which is expertly filmed making the viewer feel the rush as well as the adrenaline, they really do give that intensity as it all builds up towards that victorious outcome this is an astounding achievement by Coppola and a near perfect film that's bound to be epic for all ages
This movie is such a timeless classic. I first saw it when I was Alec's age so I was very enthralled because Alec could be me. 40 plus years later and I still get a thrill watching it.
A horse crazy kid, I read all the books voraciously. With baited breath I waited for the movie hoping it was close to the books. I loved the movie and let me tell you, I was not disappointed, it was as if the words jumped to the screen. Perfection.
Such a beautiful picture. Cinema should record with film like in the last century. Film procure so much and better feelings.. with the music and the sound.. !
One of my favorites movies of all time. I remember renting this from the library almost every weekend. This movie is why Im a die-hard horse racing fan. I soon found out a few inaccuracies of the film. One of them is that an Arabain horse like the "Black" cant race against Thoroughbreds in a sanctioned race.
This was the first movie i seen, my mother back in 1980 took me to the theater to see this, i was 5yrs old then, i get goosebumps just seeing this movie it brings me back!
Absolutely one of my own personal ALL time favorite movies I've watched.... good today as it was then in 1980 when i first seen the boy and stallion take on the world 👍👍😀😀🌈🌈🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎
I totally get what you’re saying. Here’s my two cents. This film couldn’t be made in this way now imo. The film captures the raw simplicity of great actors (Horse Cass Ole for the Black included), impeccable music score, and a great story. The 70s was such a great time and so open for music, movies, and art. If they made it now it would have a typical nowadays sounding score, tons of CGI effects and no charm from the old style film making and cameras used then. I think it was made perfectly. Filmmaking now is stale and not as inventive as it was then. They rely too much on technology now.
Most of all, “The Black Stallion” will make you believe in The Black Stallion (will make you believe in The Black Stallion will make you believe in the Black Stallion will make you believe in The...∞)
The book is actually quite poorly written. I've been reading Farley's book to my sisters, and on the FIFTH page I found a misspelling. Instead of "world" it said "wortd"! It was actually Walter's first book which he was writing before he finished college. Plus the book is blasphemous. First his father says, "God must've been with you. And with us." Then the Italian man takes the LORD's name in vain in Italian! And then Jake and Henry start saying a byword for "by Jesus", which was offensive. Not to mention how repetitive the book is. I can't even count how many times the guy's used the word "savage"! And he always uses the same words to describe the horse's sounds and actions. So out of five stars, I'd give it . . . zero. Zip. Zilch. Nada! God bless. ♥ P.S. I'd way rather read the Bible. (It's got action, drama and it's WAY better written.)
This is just about the most retarded post I have ever read in my entire life. So the typesetters (predates computers princess) made a mistake and the entire book is poorly written? It is a classic and has stood the test of time - what the heck have you ever written or done that is beloved by generations? Go read your bible and shut up.
I am almost 50's and it still makes me cry every time when I watch at this movie and at its main soundtrack. The island scenes are the best.
I was gonna watch this. I don’t want to cry :(
I’m 28 and just unlocked this hidden memory of mine what a gem
Eu tenho 44 anos. Eu vi esse filme umas mil vezes quando era criança. Muito lindo!
What sets this movie apart is the fact most of it is told through score and scenery. An amazing piece of art by Francis Ford Coppola.

My favorite movie as a child and it still makes me cry at 50 years old. Beautiful film.
This movie is nostalgic, I had the VHS when I was a kid and used to watch it a lot. I love it.
I want to watch a film in VHS now ! xD

Arabian horses aren't all that big. Technically, they're classified as ponies.
The first movie my parents took me to go see when I was a kid. I was in awe when I watched it.

Why is that? I’m sorry I don’t know anything about horse racing.
@@jssanch24 two different breeds. And there are rules. There are Arabian races. Mostly endurance races
This movie is part of the earliest memories of my life.

I believe this movie was made too early in time. It didn't receive the credit it deserved. It's a genius movie all around.

This is 1 of those movies that I would place in the OK category. Not bad, not great.
The movie turns 40 today!
Wowwww I just watched it for the first time today haha
Wow

Fantastico!
Oink so cool!
Oink wee piggy so cool!! Wow!!
Btw this was filmed in Toronto and Fort Erie, Ontario, Canada
Ay
Thank you so much for mentioned the location. I would love to go there one day. Because of Black stallion I love horses all my life.
Narrators from the 70’s sound like chain smokers
Is this the movie where he sneaks onto the plain to get to the horse?
I believe!
I thought Alec would name the black after Alexander's, Bucephalus 😂😭💀
What irony that Kelly Reno was hurt in an car accident. He did all the action scenes in the movie by himself.
This trailer gives away too much.
That’s what I was thinking.
Amo esse filme 🖤
