  • Avignon in France is a walled medieval city in the Provence region. Join us on a walking tour through its this ancient town and its medieval streets. It was the seat of the Papacy in the 14th century after a rift between the French crown and the church. 7 successive popes lived there in the Palais des Papes and it remained the seat of one of the two halves of the Catholic church after the subsequent schism which ended in the early 15th century.
Today it is a beautiful and vibrant town with beautiful Gothic architecture and lively restaurants.
We visit the Palais des Papes, the residence of the 14th century popes, the Cathédrale Notre-Dame des Doms d'Avignon, the Jardin des Doms (the cathedral and palace gardens), Église Saint-Pierre, gaze over the Pont Saint-Bénézet, Avignon's famous medieval stone bridge and sample the great food and locally-brewed craft beer.
We stayed with our camper at the campsite directly across the river, a perfect way to visit this beautiful town.
