  • My Toyota Sienna 2007 model has check engine light on, tracoff light on, and VSC light on just because my gas cap is loose. Watch the video to see why.
    I believe this is the same for all Sienna models from 2004 to 2010. It might also be the same for other models such as Highlander, Rav4, Sequoia, Camry, Corolla... that were made the same years as the Sienna.

    Same exact thing happened to me today. Driving up from Florida on I75, going 75, between two semis, and all 3 lights go on. I go off at next exit and checked engine oil and underneath for a problem, but since steering was okay I just drove home and then watched this video. You saved me a trip to the mechanic. Thanks

    Great info, however, the tire light should not be on all the time. If it's on, you need to inflate your tires to the correct pressure ASAP.

      If the tire pressure sensor is bad the tire pressure light will never go off even if you have the correct tire pressure

    If you can't get the lights to go off after tightening the gas cap. Grab a 10mm wrench and undo the battery cables, then hold them together for 30 seconds to reset the computer. The security system may lock the ignition of you don't get the lights to reset after tour first initial tightening of the gas cap.

    Thank you sooooooo much!!!!!!!! Your solution worked. I sprayed WD-40 on the gas cap, tightened it and drove for about 60 miles and the lights FINALLY went off. I did NOT want to give the dealer any $$. I did get a little nervous when the light didn't go out after about 40 miles but they're OFF. Thanks again

    Toyota doesn't make the car with the tire pressure light staying on, it's on for a reason like low tire pressure or a bad tpms sensor in the wheel.
    If there was a way to make a sensor for a loose gas cap I think they would have done that by now. Pressure in the fuel system detects an issue which prompts the check engine light to go on and then you have to connect a code reader to find out what the reason is for the check engine light going on which could then mean it's a possible loose gas cap. You should not ignore having a check engine light on. Go to a place like Advance Auto parts or AutoZone where they will scan the code for free and tell you what it is. It could very well have been a loose gas cap but to have multiple lights come on as well probably means there might be more to the issue in a vehicle. And always take whoever makes videos about anything with a grain of salt. They may not always be explaining something the right way because they are not a professional. I am not a mechanic by trade but a little bit of common sense and research can go a long way.

      On a Toyota Sienna, this issue has nothing at all to do with the engine. I've had his happen over & over, multiple mechanics (including Toyota's mechanics) have checked it and say it's just malfunctioning sensors that have no impact on how car actually performs. I've driven thousands & thousands of miles with those lights on and it does perfectly fine.

    I wish mine was as simple as a loose gas cap. I tried that and other tricks I could find online, but ended up taking my Sienna to a mechanic. The code said there was a slight leak someplace in the car--where? My mechanic figured it out. The problem was the gas cap--not a loose cap, but there were small cracks in the rubber seal. A new gas cap got rid of the three annoying lights.

    Check the spare tire pressure, that happened to mine and it went off when they put some air to it. I don't remember but the mechanic said it has a sensor that detects low pressure on the spare tire too.

    I have the same VSC light on in my Toyota Sienna 2007. I called Toyota dealer and they wanted me to pay for a diagnostic test which was over $100 bucks and they said that was not even guaranteed to fix the problem. Tried your suggestion but VSC light still stays on. Fast fwd to a year later, VSC light still on, vehicle drives great, and has over 242K miles. Well I'm just gonna ignore that light. Problem solved. 😉

    I was told that if you live in a temperature that is cold at night and hot during the day, like I do, the tire pressure will change during the day and that light (tire pressure light) will come on and go off by itself. You can check your tire pressure but you may not need to.

    Just wanted to leave a suggestion for those that are looking for one for this problem. So our 2007 Sienna has this same issue. It would also act like it wanted to stall for a few seconds while sitting at a light. Took it in to a mechanic and they couldn’t find an issue. Gas cap was fine and it was driving fine for them. So they reset the computer. Day later, all the lights came back on. Took it in to the shop and a couple codes came up. One was that we may have to replace the whole computer. But once they got down to it, it looked like an ignition coil was backfiring and not working. So they replaced the #2 coil and I have driven about 60+ miles on it and the lights remain off. So if your dealing with the light issue, have your mechanic check the ignition coils.

      @Pinkraider My wife has a 2006 Sienna and had the same lights on (CHECK ENGINE, VCS, TRAC), but the van really seemed to run okay, and we could never figure out what the problem was. We tried everything from gas cap to resetting the TRAC light with no luck. Finally, a few days ago, it started running rough and missing out. I bought a code scanner, and it was shooting the code P0302 (cylinder 2 misfire detected). I changed the mass air flow sensor, and that didn't fix it. Then, the fuel injector with no luck there either. Those were a few things that I was reading that could potentially be the problem😭. Then I tried spark plugs, still ran like crap and throwing the same code (P0302). Each time I would try something else, I would erase the code before checking to see if the problem was fixed. Finally, I switched the #2 & #4 coils, and then the code came up as #4 mis firing. I knew then it was the coil that was originally on the #2 cylinder. Replaced with a new one and voila, problem solved! No more lights on anymore. Yay! 🙃

Tire pressure light stayed on, I lower my spare tire and found it 23 PSI. I air it up to 36 PSI and Tire pressure light went away.

    I stopped turned off car then turned on and was able to continue driving 11 miles to home at slow pace with no shaking engine, accelerate alright but Xmas lights on.
    In my case, definitely can't be a loose gas cap problem.

      PS - for a faster fix, the "maintenance required" reset fixes this too in a good 15 seconds 😉 hold down the trip/odometer button (some vehicles it has to be on Odometer, some it needs to be on trip A) for about 5seconds, then for key start vehicles, turn 2clicks to where it lights the dash (push button foot OFF the break and hit the start button twice) and you should see a countdown bar (newer ones will say "resetting maintenance data" above the bar) and once the numbers flash 000000 (or says Complete) let go, and start the vehicle. BAM, done 😉

    Ok, I conquered this pesky annoyance! LOL! Here's what worked on my 2006 Toyota Sienna: With ignition off, you push and hold the black TRAC OFF button under the Steering Wheel to the lower right for 2-3 seconds. Then release it. Then, start the vehicle, and press and hold the button *again* during the dash lights power up sequence for 2-3 seconds, then release it. Booyah! Problem fixed. Of course, I'm not sure of which button pushing sequence did it (before start or after start), but no more annoying light. P.S. - In my case, this dash light indicator had nothing to do with the gas cap. I never touched the thing. The internal black button was the key to the fix. 😎 😀 Enjoy

      Every time these lights come on you should have Auto zone use their code reader. Or get your own.
      I am having this same problem. Only my shifting was really bad. Replaced from the wheel speed sensors and the on the transmission. Still problems. dealership and ETE tell me I need a new transmission. Get trans done. Lights came on again. Speed sensor code and was shifting odd but not as bad as before the trans. Needed new pig tail connector. Drove 87 miles and the lights are back on. Code comes back speed sensor. I will try the gas cap. I did get gas yesterday and that was my last stop before driving the next day. Which I maybe drove 8-10 miles before the lights came on. But shifting feels fine, nothing like before when those lights came on.
      I'm also worried I either need a new O2 sensor and if that doesn't work. A new computer. This minivan is seriously costing me too much money. Maybe I should have ditched it and got something else. *sigh* I still need to get rear shocks and new tires.

    I live with this problem a while now on my 2009, it’s damn good car, I reached six number two on odo last month with out any major repair (>$500).
    I just keep clear the code, when it come back record the code then clear it again until system has hard failed this was happen to engine cylinder #2 ignition coil code, it’s easy to swap with #4 and problem follow then I replace it.
    Just be caution when you drive with the light on, if the road not wet, snow or icing I can live with that. Hope this would help someone from panic take your car to the shop and all the tech. can do is what he see the fail code at that this time and suggest what you need to do, it may or may not fix your problems because so many things can trigger these lights.

    Turn off your tire pressure lights by holding down the button for 3secs. The button is just to the left bottom of the steering wheel. Am sure you figured that

    • @VladShes
      @VladShes 7 лет назад +1

      That is absolutely correct! You need to reset your tires pressure to current by pressing and holding the button with the same icon, after that you need to drive some miles and it is disappear. That lamp (!) displays if some of the wheel change its pressure to some big value (overheated or loose some air).

      A check engine light can be originated from many sources. This is just ONE of the reasons why you have a check engine light. If the gas cap doesn't fix it, obviously you have a bigger problem.
      Also, drive a few hundred miles before you can see any changes on your dash. Simply removing and reinserting your gas cap just won't fix the light right away.

  • @arayf.3036
    @arayf.3036 5 лет назад

    Dont think it is gas cap issue, but I will try. I'm having the same problem from yesterday all of sudden after a cold start in the morning. I got P303 and another code from OBDII reader. Indicating 6th cylinder misfire, and pending 2nd cylinder misfire. No code on VSC. TRAC Off is automatically on when VSC is lighted up.
    I used another car to go to work and only tested a bit after. Van doesn't seem to perform any worst from misfiring.
    I guess it could be flu during cold start. Wil drive it a bit to see...

    I read some comments almost everyone saying you have low pressures in tire or spare tire which is not true cause spare tire don’t have sensor the one is in sienna. Anytime you have flashing TIre pressure monitor sensor light “TPMS” on it could be 100% bad sensor or you have too much air in tire.

    • @vuaeco
      @vuaeco  8 лет назад +1

      What lights do you have turn on? Is it just the engine light or is it all the orange lights (tracoff, VSC, and engine)? If you have all the orange lights on, it might be gas cap. If you only have a single engine light on, it's more likely problem with the engine. If you have a engine light on and it's blinking, it might be something seriously wrong with your engine and you should stop driving immediately to avoid more damage. It's best just to get a OBD-II reader and diagnose it yourself before you bring it to a mechanic. I would do that and then once I know the error code, bring it to a mechanic and just play dumb and see what they have to say. If they say something other than what your OBD-II code suggested (or somewhere in the ballpark), you should run as fast as you can and find another more honest mechanic.

    the reason things come up with no Morning Wood Toyota is because it happens with no warning. the reason VSC and traction control came on on your vehicle was because the road was slippery and when the road is slippery you're not supposed to use VSC. everybody knows that ever since 2005 all vehicles got the gas cap gas leak detector mounted on the engine CPU to detect lack of pressure. to reset the tire pressure monitor or the flat tire thing all you have to do is press the reset button for X leave it rest for about 5 seconds and it resets all four wheels unless you have aftermarket wheels it should work. it sounds like operator error to me

    • @vuaeco
      @vuaeco  8 лет назад +1

      You must work for Toyota? I had been driving all day and all night that night. The road was bone dry as you can see in the video. And yes, it does have gas cap leak detector and the way it warns the operator is to turn on all orange lights as seen in the video. And there is absolutely no "X" button to reset the tire pressure monitor on a Sienna 2007. But the tire pressure warning light was always on regardless of what's going on in the vehicle. And it's still on as I speak right now. (all other lights are off a long time ago) Anyway, the tire pressure light has absolutely nothing to do with anything else that is going on with the vehicle. It's a completely different warning light. You said "operator error"? What "error"? Was it an error to buy and put gasoline in the vehicle when the tank was empty? What would you do to put gas in the vehicle when it's empty? It's not an electric car so I can't plug it in. :( The only thing I can conclude about this conversation is that you work for Toyota, period. Don't get me wrong, I love Toyota but the way Toyota programs loose gas cap warning lights has got to be recalled or improved.

    • @Pinkraider
      @Pinkraider 5 лет назад

      In our case it’s not an operator error. Ours was a bad ignition coil. Once replaced, all the lights turned off.
