I would love for you to show all the Steve Vai sounds he used the Eventide for when he recorded Passion and Warfare. Also Eddie Van Halen's sound from the Balance record was pretty awesome. I know a lot of people think he over processed his guitar sound for that record but I love it... Love all the Rack Gear your doing videos on. Eventide the company is not far from my house, and I could never afford one growing up. I just wanted to let you know from across the other side of the planet you have a massive fan. Keep them coming... \m/ 🎸
Eventide is still great piece of gear. I love the reverbs, delays and beautifull natural pitch schifter..Thanks for your presentation Leon. Amazing unit.
My first thought is 'damn right that made hit records!' I mean holy shit, that's so lush. I have to agree with Tim Pierce that the 12 bit character works really well with the delays.
I can recall the scorn a rock record got with many of these fx on it. "Processed" was the derogatory term for it. LOL It was a time when the FX made the guitar sound better than it did covering up the players real performance ability. Some argue that this allowed the acceptance of processed keyboard sounds to invade the guitar space and eventually the exclusion of guitar from records altogether. It seems the sampled or processed sound in a keyboard out performs sonically the sound of a mic'd amp speaker. Perhaps it is time for guitar to sound as good or better than "processed" or now called computer music. RAW is ROCK
Interesting you mentioned Michael Thompson but did you know and I'm not sure anymore but seemed that like 200 patches were developed for the eventide by Steve Vai who used one during his Stent with Whitesnake??,? Many 80's guitarist such as Vai, EVH, George Lynch and Mick Mars were said to have used among others. In fact in 88 Lynch claimed he had barely tapped its many amazing sounds and I believe was used in Dokken's Back for the Attack album!
@@AngusClarkGTR Run it in the loop mate, EVH Balance tone on a budget and massive difference in through compared to in front (especially when paired with Delay pedal).
519 seems to be more hifi. 231 is a little thicker and takes the edge off the top - probably fits in the mix better for this reason. Thanks for the comparison!
The rack effect of all rack effects besides the ada. What a great unit. Especially when you're playing brother. Does the AxeFx do this type of pitch shifting? Is it possible with most of the modellers? Man, with gain that just sounded epic brother. Hope all is well in your world sir. ♥️🤟
@@LeonTodd wow. That makes it worth the price right there if you ask me. If I were touring or in a full time band I'd be using the AxeFx. The only reservation I can see off the top of my head is that they release new hardware really quickly which makes one upgrade a lot, but that can be a double edged sword and be a good thing too since they are just so good at what they do. Very cool sir!
Gorgeous tones Leon. How would you connect this or any effect rack gear to say the Helix for stereo?....left/right out to left/right in or other? Thanks in advance 👍🏻
Siunds great! I live Eventide!Do you have a video that shows you how to change parameters? I'm trying out and an original black face H3000. Thanks! Rob Ransom
@@LeonTodd Thanks for getting back to me. I'm sorry, but I cannot find any other videos of you with the H3000 but this one could you please provide a link?
Hey Leon! Do you have the H3000 Factory Native or Eventide Micropitch plugin? If, so which would you recommend to emulate the rackunit for fattening guitar solos? God Bless and thank you so much! Rob Ransom
Hey Leon, If you look through the Eventide hardware catalog, what is the right unit for the home based recording you do. To me, the new H9000 is too big and I would have absolutely no way to leverage all its capabilities. If there is a price point that works better, I'd like to get your thoughts
It depends what you want to do with it. If you plan to use it in your studio you might want to look at the H7600 as it can do a ton and you can probably get one for about $2500. The H8000 will be twice that but will have more routing options etc. If it's just for your guitar, the Eclipse might get you want you want. It can run two algorithms either in series or parallel.
What presets should I demo next?
I really liked the flanger. Would like to see you explore the phaser a bit.
Steve Vai's of course, it is not even a question ))
Leon, Any chance you can save all the presets you created and put them into a zip file?
What your take on the difference of the H3000 vs the Micropitch pedal?
Delays, especially the band delays for Siamese Dream and the song Starla

Major DITTO on this on Leon!
Soon!!!

Still the gold standard!
@@LeonTodd yess!!!
The mysterious smoke motif is perfect for this one. :)
Particularly so, the sweet finish!
It really is!
I think that eventide is the master of all eff. Units. ✊

Great vid as always. This is a great unit that I'll probably never have a chance to own. Awesome tones.
It's a ripper - everyone should play one at least once even if they don't ever buy it. Puts a lot of modern gear into perspective.
There’s a sale on the plugin at the moment something like $70 ,absolute bargain

Great as always and such a beautiful playing
I agree about the number pad. That would be really nice to have on the Axe-FX.
Feels so good to use too

Badass. Just bought the plugin. Can't wait!
Recreateable in modern digital modeling equipment... but not quite the same "in person" experience.
I just added the Boss Harmonist PS-6 to my 80’s board. Because of your videos! It has +10/-10 detune.
Right in the sweet spot! Running it in a loop?
@@LeonTodd No, but it’s running after all the distortion on the board. Wampler Tumnus > LPD87 > ZVEX Super Hard On > PS-6 > DD-7 > Hall of Fame > Amp

Agreed. 231 really has THAT thing.
A absolute classic! I'd love to hear the string modeler algo...I never got to mess around with that one.
yeah that one is bizarre and beautiful!
Good morning Leon! Well done and thanks for sharing brother! Be Well All!
Thank you kindly!
I loved the Saigon Kick nod
;)
I still would like to see a carvin v3 demo. You make anything you play through sound phenomenal!
You might need to call the fire brigade mate, something burning behind
That's it.. !! Leon can you duplicate this on the Axe Fx ( ax8, Fm3, FM9, Axe Fx 3?
Always wanted one of those. Killer stuff.
There's newer units that do more, but nothing really sounds like this. Warts and all.
@@LeonTodd I got to use a 949 in the studio once and wanted one ever since. The harmonizer is just killer.
As much as I love my H9, I’d absolutely love to build a rack around one of these…
I have an h9 now, but I really miss my h3500. Just not the same.
For the money the H9 is such an incredible beast. The older 'tides have a definite character that is hard to replicate though.

Yeah, get an A/DA, an H3000/3500 and a Lexicon unit of pretty much any type and you have the ultimate 80's rack set up.

Actually Leon I love to see melodic harmonies Like Iron Maiden or Boston. thanks so much. cheers.
Well done Leon
First clean preset reminded me kinda' sorta' of Sykes' "Looking for Love" kind of tone.
Ah yes, the best ballad on that album :D

Yeah chuck it into a loop and route the loop in parallel, setting the 'tide to 100% mix

Soundtoys Microshift is what I use when I want detune in my DAW. The company was founded by au m me ex Eventide engineers.
Also, I would love to see you make some from scratch!

No, just the fx
