It is important to respect the customs of the country.
I am Japanese, but Japan has not accepted many foreigners until modern times.
40 years ago, when Japan had economic power, workers came from Asian countries in search of "yen".
In recent years, Japan has lost its economic power and has focused on tourism, and it has become commonplace to see foreigners in the streets. As a result, I started to feel more stress due to cultural differences between Japan and other countries (for example, standing in line and waiting in line).
You know a lot about Japan! Yes, there are many 7-Elevens in Japan. However, in most of Japan, it is an unspoken rule not to open a store nearby out of consideration for the owner. (Thailand has a 7-Eleven every 20m)

There’s 4 Mr.DIY’s in Pattaya, there’s a good one by the massive wholesale Ratanakorn Market, in Theppesit Road, where we go every week for the best choice and cheapest fruit, veg, meat and fish market in the Pattaya area imo 😊. I’ve often seen young Thai men not wearing a shirt, but yes I agree it’s not the right etiquette to do so in public places! The feet are considered the least clean part of the body and should never show people the bottom of the feet. Also pointing at someone with your index finger is frowned on, there’s so many Thai taboos. In fact my Thai girlfriend never gets very intimate with me on Buddha days, she is very religious and this maybe her upbringing 😮

that's the reason Thais will often "point" with their chin when giving directions, i used to think it was rude or lazy before i found out, also beckoning with the palm facing up is almost inviting someone to fight with you, much more polite to beckon with the palm facing down

@@oneendofthailand thanks much! Is Jomtien a good choice for an American ExPat living on roughly $2300 a month? With prices What they are in the United States now,, it’s clear that I need to get out of Dodge. Currently I’m 69 years old and pretty arthritic. I need a one floor living arrangement .. stairs are not nice to me. Originally I thought about buying an apartment, but after watching your video and a few others I think perhaps it may be wise for me to find a place that suits me that I can afford as reasonably as possible and get maybe a six month or 12 month lease so that if I find I don’t like the area, I have both time to search out a replacement and then if I want to I’ll buy a place. My current living situation is becoming untenable. I’ve got a three-story townhouse that I paid down on the mortgage pretty heavily so when I sell this place I’ll have some money to take with me. Since everything I own is American, I’ll need to sell the contents of my home, sell my car. sell the home itself and get myself all the needed visa’s and paperwork needed to arrange my finances moving to Thailand. Initially, I plan to use Tuk Tuks or the like for basic transportation. I’m too old for a scooter.. At some point I’ll need a small inexpensive car that’s capable of fitting my 6’4” 210lb body relatively comfortably and reasonably efficiently. I really don’t envision driving around that much, but in as much as my mobility is somewhat reduced due to age and arthritis, a car seemed like the most logical choice. Let me know if you have a recommendation. I won’t be bringing much with me other than clothes and my musical menagerie (10 guitars and multiple amps and accessories .) Will my iPod Air Gen4, My Asus recent Windows Laptop and my One Plus 8T phone be useable in Thailand? (All are capable of Wi-Fi 6) I realize I will need a new phone plan and Internet access. Hi Heath, I believe that there is another no no that you didn't mention. I was there extensively in the early 70s, 80s and 90s with the US Navy and it was a big deal then but I'm not sure about now. If you were sitting down and your feet were pointing in the direction of another Thai National then that could be construed as being offensive. It's because the feet are the lowest part of the body and because of that it would be offensive. Is it still that way?
