    Dr. Nigel Clarke is a "savant" in the lineage of fiscal (monetary) theorists with market-oriented anchorage in micro-, meso-, and macroeconomic formulations. He is the best expositor of the economic dynamics of Jamaica. His emphatic focus on optimizing provisions of human capital is a virtue worth maintaining.

      @@SagaciousCentaurHow is Finance Minister Clarke a “trickster”, please explain and provide proof to back up your claims! Do present actual evidence and not just buzz words or rhetoric used on political platforms! Your political leanings has prevented you from making an honest and informed opinion even with irrefutable evidence staring you in the eyes! Don’t take anyone’s words just google and do your own research to see where we were economically as a country and contrast it to where we are currently then get back to us. Part of our problem as a nation has always been the inability of too many in calling a spade a spade whenever it presents itself! I challenge you to name a more accomplished Finance Minister in Jamaica’s short political independence history? I’m asking for accomplishments and not personality traits! Results in other words! Why haven’t the JLP government negotiated a special wage package for tourism workers. No way on earth tourism workers should be paid Jamaican minimum wage or the Jamaican rate because these hotels are transacting business in US dollars. There is no difference between the Hyatt and Riu in Jamaica from the Hyatt and Riu in America in terms of revenue because everything is done in US dollars and their customers are 99% foreigners and not local. So why should a Jamaican tourist worker be subjected to Jamaican minimum wage or Jamaican pay scale? That makes no sense.

      @@Rhicoinc blindly chasing foreign exchange is not good policy. An economy is way more dynamic than that. A better policy would be to manage inflation and try to reduce exchange rate fluctuation. But giving a subsector of your economy all your attention is just like skipping Leg day yea you have big biceps but u still weak. And with all of this investment tourism getting it's hardly making a difference. See di finance minister seh it MOST PEOPlE WORK WHOLESALE & RETAIL. So if we want to see job growth and income growth we need to invest more in what's working despite the government neglect.. let's prop up wholesale and retail. Instead of giving incentives for hotel back a hotel give incentive for shopping malls with bathroom facilities and tek d damn vendors off the damn street and demolish crab circle for example.. We a give all sorts of incentives and investment Fi build hotel and most a we retail a take place inah wooden shacks and pon d fucking roadside. The economy and this fleeting prosperity we chasing can't be achieved by hyper focusing on a subsector of the economy that hardly employe anyone just because we can maybe earn foreign currency

    • @hughporter2541
      @hughporter2541 9 месяцев назад

      @@Rhicoinc all taxes goes straight to consolidated fund and it doesn't matter where the funds come from. Taxes should benefit the citizenry. these tourists come to our island and use our beaches and our waterfalls. So therefore we the citizenry as a whole should benefit from allowing them that privilege. Secondly we are investing in the tourism product that hardly employs anyone because we maybe can get foreign exchange (which we not doing such a hot job making a dent in the tourism numbers anyways) meanwhile the industry that actually driving the jobs is conducted from wooden shacks, dirty run down disease infested markets without bathroom facilitties so much so that vedors get recorded doing number 2 same place where them sell food/crab. Meanwhile we giving tax incentives and funding fi anything wah sound like tourism and Fi build hotel rooms. We should be giving funding and tax incentives & financing to build shopping malls with bathroom facilities (mandatory) and cooperative self managed markets again with (mandatory bathroom facilities). So those in our biggest industry according to the finance minister can ply their trade in dignity and those who are their customers can buy from them without having to jump over dirty water

Dr. Clarke is arguably the most educated finance minster Jamaica has ever had. The opposition has no one with this level of education & competency to run the finances of a nation.

We now see the reason for the continuous calls for the Opposition to reveal their budget proposals. To hold Nigel’s hand in preparing a workable Budget that would not have to be amended/revised in just two weeks? There is no disagreement that Nigel is a bright scholar but proving daily to be only maybe in Mathematics. We even seen him awarding a well deserved Red Card to himself just recently.
