Having grown up with two older sisters, they taught me how to dance with talcum powder on the kitchen floor. Don't stand in the crowd have the confidence when you dance and show them your moves. And they were so right.

If you mean the lady in the blue/green dress on the edge of the dancefloor with hands on her hips, in the film she was dancing with him immediately prior to this solo dance. John's character, Tony, was a bit bored of dancing with her and was rather rude to her (she had flirted with him and wanted to dance and...perhaps take him home), so when he abruptly abandoned her to show off like this she was a bit miffed at his attitude and not in the same mood as most of the onlookers!
