Several other reactors have reacted to videos by Ninh Ly and have got them up on RUclips....... The Rules of Rugby Union, The Rules of Rugby League, The Differences between Rugby Union and Rugby League. So far you've just been looking at Rugby Union but there is another form of the game called Rugby League which is mainly played professionally in England and Australia
The 2 point kick is called a Conversion and the kick is awarded after a try is scored ...... I guess it's the equivalent of a 'point after' in NFL. The kick is taken parallel to the side line (touch line) according to where the ball is placed down for the try ...... which is why you will often see players not put the ball down immediately they get in the end zone but will run on and put the ball down behind the posts to make the following conversion kick easier because it will be from in front of the posts rather than out on the touch line
Hey Tyler, the MLR rugby channel has a great video explaining rugby to Americans, as MLR is the new-ish League in the USA, so it is sort of dedicated for people who never heard of the sport. The video is called Rugby 101 | Major League Rugby - by USMLR, narrated by a Pacifican.
It's not a good tutorial at all. I've seen other US RUclipsrs react to that tutorial instead, made by a British guy, and say it was very clear as well as quite short. I've myself learned the rules of cricket (I'm French and a rugby fan since childhood) from another video on his channel. ruclips.net/video/smnuRhNtT2E/видео.html Keep the good work, I'm always glad to see Americans discover rugby and like it. Rugby Union is a true international sport and I wish to see the US national team reach the top 10 in a few years.
Wow, that was terrible. There are other 'rules videos' out there that are much better than this and I don't much care for them either. They will be very informative for you though. I'm an American. I 'saw' my first rugby match in '72. I was IN it. I figured it out. You were pretty good on offside when the ball is kicked. Just being offside isn't against the Law. You will be offside often. Hell, if I have the ball and I pass it back to you, I am offside until I am behind the ball. What gets you penalized is interfering in play while being offside. The only thing you should be doing when offside is retreating. What I have never seen in Rugby Law videos is the concept of "advantage" and the role of the ref. In our 'gridiron' when the ref sees an infraction they throw a flag, within seconds the whistle blows and the Umpire asks the nonoffending captain, "What do you want? The penalty or the play?" In Rugby the ref 'decides for you'. He will call out while play goes on "Advantage Blue" (if Blue is the non offending team) and he will point to that team. Blue now has an advantage. If Blue is unable to gain an appropriate "advantage' (yardage, field position, possession) compared to the infraction then, and only then does the whistle blow. Sense no 'Advantage' had been gained the ref takes play back to where the infraction occurred. However, if Blue gains enough of an advantage the ref will announce "Advantage over" and the foul will be 'forgiven' unless it was a "personal foul", then things get complicated. Hope that helps.
Awful explanation and video. Why show players in American Football kit? Far too fast, badly explained and incorrect comparisons. Far better ones are available.
