  • We messed up on recording Ian's laptop on this one, so it was sitting in the queue because of our crippling perfectionism, but the information is worth sharing, so here it is! We'll do better next time, promise!
In this video, Ian covers the site survey process for the mock scenario of filming a golf course east of downtown Montreal, Quebec, Canada with a Mavic 3.
Check it out, and comment below on where you'd like us to cover next.

I'm glad you took the time - as there are quite a few steps to do a pre planning, plus application to NavDrone - thank you:)

    That was excellent! Thanks!

Hi! I really loved this video. I have my Advanced Certificate and even if I had to learn how to do the things you show here, there were some steps I forgot and some I never tought of. So thanks a lot for this one! - I'm building a word document template for SFOC applications which will include all the common parts that the Matrice of comformity points to and this video has filled a lot of them.

    Hi cool information
have my advanced certificate and it’s really hard to get a job and not really well pay ! It’s really a close market to get in

Keep at it! There are jobs, and confidence in your work and pricing will get you the jobs you want, not the jobs you have to take. If you don't already have one, build a demo reel of the work and feature that centrally on your website.

How do you keep in communication with the "flying" operation tower? So you have the tower number right, usually don't need to call them without any reason, only if something happens or do you have to give them a call before your start flying?

It will depend on the tower and the circumstances of your operation - if it is auto-approved, there will be instructions in the PDF on how to communicate with the tower and when. If it's manually approved, there will likely be some dialogue with the tower and they may have a specific request. Typically now with Nav Drone, calls to the tower aren't made unless there's a problem.

After this video I assume that is basically prohibited to fly a drone for recreative reasons, unless you drive 1h+ out of the island... sad...

That is why you should have a sub 250 as well. I fly downtown Ottawa often, I just stay out of the class F.

@@flightographist wait, you’re saying with a sub 250 I don’t need all these paperwork? man, that’s new to me. Such good news. Thanks.

Exactly, the only rule for sub 250 is to not fly recklessly. So, you can fly everywhere except class F. That means no minimum distance, no maximum altitude and even vlos doesn't apply. The caveat is don't be reckless or you will get in trouble.@@YourDailyR
