Guitar player since 82 here. Walsh has always been my favorite and my inspiration. Had the pleasure and privilege of meeting him several times with my wife and he was always warm friendly funny and never rushed us. A man of the people ! But Seriously Folks is my favorite Walsh Album Cheers Bill Cheers Joe
THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR INTERVIEW WITH THIS LEGITIMATE LEGEND!! As a kid who came of age in the 70s era of rabid audiophiles, studying liner notes of our albums; I’ve been aware of Mr. Szymczyk since an older cousin gifted me the ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECE JAMES GANG RIDES AGAIN!! Even then I was dumbfounded at his MASTERFUL SEQUENCING of the tracks! One side mellow, ambient & moody… The other a full-on hard rock juggernaut, BOTH SIDES WITH FANTASTIC EBB & FLOW!! The miking of the cymbals was INSANE!! The cymbal work really put the long instrumentals over the top! Along with Rush, STILL my all time favorite power trio!
Great Interview! Someone who worked with Joe Walsh is definitely a hero in my book. I been a James Gang fan from the beginning. Wow! Carnegie Hall was 2 nights! I took a bus from N.J. Have a great story from that concert!
Hey John, thanks for another great interview. You brought up a great point about the wonderful songs on "But Seriously, Folks." If you ever get a chance to interview Bill again, please ask him why Asylum didn't release Tomorrow as the follow-up single to Life's Been Good. It would have been a huge hit. Instead, they released At The Station, which went nowhere. Joe could have possibly had more hits off the album if Asylum knew what they were doing. Thanks again!
That first side of But Seriously Folks is, essentially, my favourite summer music - superbly crafted songs, harmonically, melodically and lyrically, and continue that nostalgia so beautifully evoked on Pretty Maids All In A Row a year earlier.
My introduction to the James Gang was me buying the 8 track tape of "RidesAgain" just because of the picture of the boys on motorcycles. Then I bought the vinyl LP. Later I found " Yer Album." Then "Thirds," and them some Barnstorm records. Joe is my #2 guitar hero.
Great info about one crazy picker. I remember in the past Im listen to the radio KCBQ I think and . All of a sudden there is talk and then live guitar pouring out of the speakers. Joe was live and playing his music in and around his stories of life on the road with The Eagles and his "fun times " with Keith Moon. Joe Walsh is a national treasure in my opinion.
Always thought The Confessor (title track) should have been better received > don't think however Bill had any credit on that one from '85. Another fantastic clip John 🎯
FINALLY! I would have liked to hear more about Bill's work with James Gang than Joe's solo work, but at least there isn't anymore talk about The Eagles!
BTW… But Seriously Folks & Rides Again 2 of my all time top 10…. BUT! BRO!!! THERMONUCLEAR PARTY FOUL!! NO-ZIP-ZED-ZERO QUESTIONS ABOUT RIDES AGAIN??!! Joe & James Gang classic & absolute pinnacle accomplishment!
Another informative Interview. Have you seen an SCTV skit "Fishin Musician" with "Joe Joe and the Chocolate Waddy" (Joe Walsh, Joe Vitale, George "Chocolate" Perry and Waddy Wachtel) hosted by John Candy. 2 parts on RUclips. Worth a view. Especially by Canadians!😂
Joe originally applied to Apple records and wanted the James Gang in their stable of recording artists. He got a reject slip from Apple. I bet he gives Ringo hell about that to this day. For those that don't know, Ringo and Joe are in-laws and have been for a good long time now. This is only my opinion, but I think Joe did his best stuff outside the Eagles. I guess he joined them because it was a steady paycheck at least for a little bit and for sure after they reunited.
If I'm being a pest, I'm so sorry, John - Jay Ferguson was all over But Seriously Folks, I even think he co-wrote Theme From Boat Weirdos - I'm just hoping you asked Bill about Jay, as I'm a big fan, and Joe has played on every one of his album's, I believe. I think Bill produced Jay's first two solo albums
Bill has to have some great stories he will never tell us. As for the cut cable in NYC it sounds like they didn't pay off the unions before hand. That's probably another story he won't mention other than hiring cops every 10 feet lol.

The James Gang were a local band to us in NE OHIO. They played my senior prom (Mentor High school 1970) .
I graduated from MHS as well, but wrong year, How Cool!!!

I absolutely loved the "But, Seriously Folks.." album.

Saw James gang in 71 . Joe Walsh is a truly amazing guitar player and for the opening act , he stole the show

Great History lessons!

Indian Summer from But Seriously among my very favorite Walsh songs...very overlooked tune imo
Joe Walsh Got Any Gum is an excellent album as well!
Excellent album!
Always thought The Confessor (title track) should have been better received > don't think however Bill had any credit on that one from '85.

I might pick the album up now!
awesome stuff
Bill Szymczyk did Michael Stanley's last album "Tough Room", a great album.
What a Great Talent, Joe Walsh on Drew Carey
How did he record the bass on “Yer Album”?

Haaaaaaaaaaaaaa'!!!
♥
How about that B.B. King album , " L.A. Midnight " . It has B.B.King , Joe Walsh and Jesse Ed Davis on it .
BARNSTORM has a lot of good mellow, melodic songs.
I remember reading an interview where Joe Walsh said, "My only complaint about Bill is that he's too damn physically huge".
I'm curious where did it go from the James Gang to deciding to make the Joe Walsh album as a solo artist.

Union stagehands did it.
How ya dooooooin? 🤘
Are you from the LA area?
@@erniemathews8130Tennessee! How ya doooooin Ernie? 👍
Always loved Joe's stuff but I prefer the Tommy Bolin era of James Gang.

Joe needs Bill now more than ever. Jeff Lynne ruined Joe.
Leave it to the Eagles to lose their musical sense of humor by hiring Joe Walsh.
Even to this day, Theme From Boat Weirdos continues to be one of my favorite instrumentals. 🛥️
