This LP was the first thing I watched on RUclips. I grew up on TBFP, their style of humor really shaped what I enjoy today and a lot of how my personality developed. These guys were truly the fucking best, I'll miss them a whole god damn lot. Stay rad, shitlords.
It all started with that Axe. Matt threw it and it went through time and space and reality and struck all of the Konami leaders in their heads, giving them brain injuries. This led to them thinking it was a good idea to fire Kojima, cancel Silent Hills, and turn everything into Pachinko. It all started here...
By coincidence, Kojima was able to escape by using a fireaxe to break through the prison walls.
Thus Stranding his Death! It all fits! Matt is history's greatest mastermind, but his entire vision is yet to be seen...
I postulate this was what ended the best friends. The axe pulled a time manipulation and axed Matt and Pat's friendship so subtly that it started to break down and Bam! The fire axe killed best friends. Or ya know, it was fucking OMIKRON

This game is so unintentionally slapstick it has me in tears with the door falling like a sack of shit and making a huge noise after crossing the divide, or in the movie screen world with the abrupt and anti-climactic shotgun blast that just puts that shambling zombie dude on his ass.
It's always a good time when Murph is gettin' up to trouble in Silent Hill.
*cue canned laughter*
I have a feeling that the way to improve Downpour is to have the fact that the protagonist is a prisoner be the twist. Like, start the game SH1 style with an accident (this time with a bus) and have more NPCs that were prisoners along with him appear in the town. Nobody talks about actually being in jail, but the protag talks about what his plans are for when he "gets out" with the player assuming he means when he leaves Silent Hill.

I have no idea what happened to Matt’s brain before this playthrough started but this has to be him at his absolute dumbest, I love it.
The "why are you lying" bit is still so fucking funny
It's a small thing, but I really appreciate the seamless cut between them reacting to the hand on the cable car, and then Matt saying it's a good place to cut it.
Little details like that really make these compilations (and redux versions!) just a little bit more special than other SBFP compilations*

they say that as a joke but they do. they have programmers working on pachinko coverer belts if they piss off a executive or like a fired friend's Facebook page.
Sam Lucas i don't remember which game dev it was exactly but i know one of the major developers of some konami franchise ended up being put on janitorial duty because if they fire you they have to pay unemployment but if they just break your soul into leaving they don't have to do shit. because #fucKonami

The ending is music to my ears.. we really need a matt laugh compilation.

A good LP to discover them by. First LP I saw was Killer is Dead.
Same here, it's still one of my favorites even after all this time.
I think Yakuza 4 is their strongest LP but this one is up there too
I actually own a copy of Yakuza 4 but haven't gotten around to beating it. So I only watch as far as I have played :P

The laughing Montage at the end really tells it doesn't it? Laughing that much at a HORROR game? Shameful dispray.

At least this game is bad enough to be laughed at. Homecoming was just boring.

That weird paper puzzle at about 23:37, the bugs crawling on the table look so stupid! They're just fuzzy, black ovals, but to make it worse, the ones that you can see the best aren't moving anything like creepy bugs! They're just spinning around like they're following somethings orbit, like the moon follows the Earth!
I like to imagine Tom Hulett watching this playthrough and getting all butthurt.

Y'know; it may have a subtlety and monster design problem, but Downpour wasn't too bad. It's definitely the best of the western made Silent Hill games with actual puzzles and an attempt at psychological horror instead of just going with the cult (like the majority of SH games). I also appreciate how it portrays the town itself as a malevolent force instead of just a place where bad things happened.
Roondar Lastname I love Downpour. It has a lot of issues but, along with Shattered Memories, they are the two good western developed Silent Hill games. It’s a game that has grown to be loved (or at least be appreciated for what it is) over time. Something that can’t be said for Homecoming or Origins. They tried some new stuff with Downpour (actual side quests, open world town, and they even corrected Homecoming’s awful idea of lazily throwing in Pyramid Head as a scary boogeyman by creating an actual subjective Boogeyman concept that can change real characters based on the perspective). Also yea the fact they ditched the cult stuff was great, but I was disappointed they didn’t continue down the Native American backstory that they seemed to be setting up early in the game (the type of stuff that the Past Life comic tied to Downpour really dove into). Crappy monster designs, awful combat, tons of tech issues, some plot issues. But still cool in the end.
I definitely don't _love_ the game, and it feels very different from the well-regarded Silent Hill games in tone (I can't exactly say why. Part of it is probably down to aesthetics. I also feel like the story is less involved in most of the game compared to 1-4), but I think it's pretty good as a general horror game. Could do without the "running away from the black hole balls" thing though.
