my boss is a sikh. brings in homemade food every day, it's the most beautiful food I have ever had without a doubt. we also have Indians next door where we live, every Thursday they bring round home cooked food, even smelling it walking past that they're cooking the food is mouthwatering. super friendly people!

Amazing to see so much positivity about a group of people.
I to grow with Indians and can honestly say the majority of them were some of the friendliest and polite people I would ever meet.

When I worked at a phone shop, we would go to a wholesaler in London that was literally based in a huge attic upstairs somewhere, and it was run by Muslims. It was an all day job getting stock, and around 12-12:30 they'd go out and get the same sort of food you was talking about, and we'd all sit around a table or something. I think it's in their culture to eat like a family even if you're a complete stranger. These people aren't all the same, it's a shame some ruin it for the majority.

Mr Tom! What you had was a lamb Shawarma , its layers of marinated lamb lightly spiced with tahini ( a special sauce made out of sesame seeds) , inside an Arabic thin bread which melts in your mouth as you eat it! To anyone who hasn’t tried one, they haven’t eaten Lamb yet! they need to try one to find out what Properly cooked meat should taste like! They are absolute heaven! I am a British Pakistani and in the 80s working on our building sites with my dad, would insist that all the workmen on the site sit around this large round table and have a proper dinner together as a ‘family ‘ it’s our Asian culture & We find it offensive if people refuse our hospitality and food ,even more so when you have employed these people to work for you .It’s like a duty of care. Anyway the lads on site couldn’t believe their luck with the way they were fed with proper curries /rice & slap up’meals every day! It might of seemed a luxury to them but is the standard customary thing abroad
Especially in Asian & Muslim countries

That reminds me of when I worked in London in the 70's with a Cypriot electrician - he would always take time to stop in a cafe to buy me a good lunch which he always paid for. The first day I worked for him he left me in an empty flat with a cold chisel and club hammer as well as a countersunk socket box. He came back later to see how many I had chased out in the brickwork - I guess I had done enough, I learned a lot working for him!

3:42 This is normal in friendly cultures e.g. asia. I am german guy but have had work and live in Thailand some years. We "Western" talk it "family" if we see us in a run and on hand eating a McD Burger - they make free a eating place and sit down for food and drink normal food; normally with all people together (friends, co-worker, family) for half or one hour.
You will learn how goes away your stresses life and come back your live. Specially here in asia they do it her / his long life - so they can't understand our western do. Be calm and sit with them together, in UK all people talk english language, so no problem for you. Here in Thailand they talk mostly thai, not easy sometimes.
In asian culture the people talk to other people with "respect" to non-family member. If it friends or co-worker you use fast the first name, but they use different respect words for older/younger, own/other company, police, boss and so on. In english language you have only mister / misses - so they use this words ...
I have some students - they call me "mister" since years. Long time ago my best asian friend and co-worker says "mister" to me - till she found out that she can full open coconuts with 3 cuts only - i stop after 30 times (no hole!). Now she see that I am "not better / higher" in hierachy as she self - have I know that earlier we make the coconut game years befor in the past.
It is not easy this asia culture - after UK was long time invated in asia - the most people not understand it after so a long time. Sure you think right now: "Hey, they are in London (England), why they not accept MY english culture?" The answer is easy, they can't it so fast.
In Ko Samui we starts with traffic light at a t-bone crossing first time, after a year you see that really 99% driver stops at red light. Sometimes things need time. 😆😂
BTW: I not know your restaurants in London but here in Samui I know that food from the muslim village market days. It is so delicious! They served it fresh lamp meat inside this greek pita bread (I not have a name for this) - it's so great!

Sounds like proper Kebab like you get in the middle east. A lamb shawarma.
I used to go to a little place in Bahrain and eat them till I couldn't eat anymore.
I can only describe it as the lamb from the best Sunday roast.
The only place I have had one in London was the bottom end of the Kings Road,
"The Kebab Kid" it's probable not there anymore.

Bit late to the comment but food is given priority over work in northern india and pakistan. Its tools down for lunch.
As an courtesy if you do end up in this situation then offer to buy them lunch on your last day or buy them a small gift just to return the favour. Juat be carefull of dietary needs ie veg, halal, alcohol etc but they would appreciate the thought.

It'll be super marinated and spiced... Prepared authentic, by either a 'proper' Middle Eastern restaurant (c.f. main street ones) or at home... Made the way it would be made in wherever he hails from. Whereas the kebab shop stuff is just on a shish and cooked rapidly for mass market consumption.

There is some good ones but certainly also bad ones, i've been on a job renovating apartments for a guy called hassan who i believe is of turkish or middle eastern origin, who would be late on payments constantly, look over everyones shoulders even though it was a fixed price for the job, he even cheaped out on the plasterers and bricklayers and got alcoholics and drug addicts, polish workers etc. Nothing against the polish though honestly because they seemed to know what they were doing but the plasterers left empty beer cans everywhere and even light up a joint one time. It was noones surprise when the jobsite was shut down.

" it takes only one to ruin it" yes, such a truism, one bad apple.... Its such a olde saying, Indian people have a " guest" mentality, you cannot go to a punjabi person's house without eating or drinking, as its the high of disrespect, to have a person ask for even water, without you offering everything from water to juice or pop aka soda, you disrespect the guest and yourself and family, its the village aka simple life, where it is better to give than receive, we are all equal in the eyes of the Creator, OK trying to explain is hectic, how about a sentiment, in the olde country, if your neighbour has a guest ( relative / friend or anything) they are not in, then it is incumbent on you the neighbour to act in their stead, so you invite them in, give them refreshments, food whatever, no is not an option, the best plates, cutlery, etc, the best food, as to not disrespect the guest, it's a case of honoring the guest, if or when the neighbours return, that of no consequence, the person shall be catered for, then leave when totally full, its a case of respecting others, there is no 3rd party, no other, in the UK you can tell when the area you are driving in is good, when people give you way, it then rubs off on you, small ripples in a pool, it's almost 12, ZZZZZZZZ,
