Stevie Ray died in 1990 in a helicopter crash. He was, is, and forever will be the pride and joy of Austin 🇨🇱! I saw Stevie at least 20 times! We used to pay $3.00 to see Stevie live at clubs in Austin. He was a regular at Antones, the world famous blues venue where everyone from Muddy Waters to B B and Albert King played and always let Stevie sit in if he dropped by. Loved and respected by ALL the old blues masters. Absolutely one of the all time greatest guitarists! A true guitar god! RIP SRV! 😥 Thank you for the music you left for us.
It wasn’t easy playing like Stevie he absolutely battled the guitar. Most guitarist play with eight gauge or sometimes nine gauge strings. Steve he played with 13 gauge strings which is like trying to bend telephone wire. It was absolutely amazing how he had control of such a beast of a guitar
There is no one comparable to SRV. The great Eric Clapton once said he could only listen and watch Stevie for one or two songs before he had to leave or he would never be able to play a guitar again. Stevie was that amazing.
I was at his last two shows at Alpine Valley where he died. Eric Clapton had to follow him as the closing act. Clapton came on stage after Stevie finished and proclaimed Stevie the Greatest of All Time. And then Clapton asked the crowd, "How in the hell do I follow that?" He proceeded to play all love ballads because it was all he could do. His show became a couples concert. By then we were so blown away by Stevie we hardly listened to Eric. We just sat there in awe for hours. It was a spiritual experience. I've been to hundreds of shows and that performance still ranks #1. I cried like a baby when I got the news of the crash at work the next day. That damn fog made my drive home a bitch. His helicopter pilot had no business taking off in it.
Eric said that when he first heard Stevie, he was driving....and he had to pull over and find out who he was....right then.....he couldn't wait. He said that Stevie was the first guitar player to impact him like that since Jimi.
Clapton himself being on of the greats, yeah that says so much coming from him. Truthfully SRV is one of the GOATS on the guitar if not the GOAT. Pure raw talent to the extreme.

In 2 days it will be 29 years since his death 😢 My friends were at his last concert at Alpine Valley in East Troy, Wisconsin. It's a ski resort and after the concert it was very foggy. I was at that concert too ! I almost didn't go because I had a sore throat and I thought maybe a summer cold was coming on but then I was like...no I really want to see SRV so I went. One of the best decisions I ever made. I couldn't believe it when I heard the news after.
This song is truly one of the greatest individual musical performances ever captured on film. Blues fans, non blues fans. Doesn't matter. They are just blown away by seeing this man do his thing.
There are a lot of guitar greats today. There is no SRV. Stevie was born in Dallas. As a boy. Stevie stole forbidden time on his older brother Jimmy's guitar, for which he would receive a brotherly thumpin' when caught. After dropping out of school, Stevie moved to Austin for the music scene. The rest is history.
Stevie's broken nose was courtesy of Jimmie, for playing Jimmie's guitar when Jimmie was out of the house. Stevie's all time favourite guitarist? Jimmie Vaughan.
Stevie is the truth, and like you said: "The Guitar 🎸 Player." No one ever will walk this planet and be like SRV, playing like his can never be duplicated.
Classic, legend, & amazing Stevie Ray Vaughn..... He was phenomenonal.... I miss him still & always will miss him.... He's just one of the greatest guitarist ever born, there are few that will ever be like SRV.... R. I. P. Stevie Ray Vaughn you are truly missed...
Me starting this video: “Damn, Stan’s gonna get his shit rocked!” And as expected, he looked traumatized. STAN, ARE YOU OKAY?! Best guitarist of all time in my mind. A little before my time, but I’m grateful my mom passed along her taste in music. As far as modern guitarists, I’m going to recommend Allegaeon “Gray Matter Mechanics”. It’s not bluesy or similar, but they have two of the best guitarists in metal right now, in my opinion.
Had the honor and privilege of seeing Stevie Ray twice, and he put a piece of his soul into every note he played... nobody can ever touch him..R.I.P. Stevie Ray..
Stevie Ray was born in Dallas and raised on Glenfield Av in Oak Cliff section of South Dallas. His childhood home marked on Google maps. He began playing in Dallas bands in his early teens. He left home at a very young age and moved to Austin where he played for a number of years, very well known blues guitarist in area very quickly until he gained national exposure in early 80s. He always considered Austin his home base.
Who now? No one 🙁. He was a once in a generation/century talent. Two of his main mentors (Buddy Guy and BB King) pretty openly made their thoughts clear he had surpassed them all; and those two are guys who also seem to sleep and breath with a guitar in their hands all of the time... Thank goodness for video footage and ty for sharing with us.
That kind of talent is on a frightening level. They can tell you they know what they are doing, but they can't explain how they are doing it. It comes from a special place only few are lucky to experience.
Stevie incredibly played with heavy thick guitar strings. He had a grip of steel. The strings were actually higher off the neck than most guitarist also!
There is nobody that compares to Stevie. He has inspired a lot of young guitar slingers but there is no one that even comes close to what Stevie left us with. I mean nobody. I will say honorable mentions Kenny Wayne Shepard, Joe Bonamassa, Gary Clark Jr. and Christone “Kingfish” Ingram. All influenced in one way or another by Stevie. R.I.P. S.R.V. God, man you are so missed down here on earth. 10/3/1954 to 8/27/1990. S🎸R🎸V🎸
I love watching people watch and hear SRV for the first time. It brings tears to my eyes. I get chills every single time I hear his music. My high school band teacher used to tell us if we play great the mothers in the stands will throw us their baby’s lol when I heard SRV for the first time back in the day, I understood what he was saying. Lol RIP Sir, you are so Missed
Excellent--SRV was a beast on that Strat - I had the honor of seeing him live 3 times before he had a recording contract - no one plays with more passion or soul than Stevie - you feel his music - Do "Lenny" from the same concert as this one - a song he wrote - RIP SRV
My granddaughter absolutely love SRV's song "Lenny" her fave of all time and she is only 24 so he was way before her time. She will sit and listen to him for hours. I just it!
@@snozbaries7652 Totally agreed, they only teach you reading music as a "fundamental" in music school because it makes their job easier, not because it makes you a better player.
One of the best nights of my life was at Hollywood Cafe, a little Delta blues dive, in Robinsonville, MS in late 1980's. SRV and Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top) came in for dinner. They both had concerts in the area. After talking to pianist, they decided on an impromptu jam session for about an hour. There were only about 30 of us in the bar. Magical evening!
Look back to BB King, Muddy Waters, and further back to Robert Johnson, Stevie Rey Vaughn is the the best I have ever heard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you’ve heard Jimi Hendrix then you want to listen to you want to see Stevie Ray Vaughan perform “Voodoo Chile” and Little Wing” Personally I believe it’s even better than Hendrick’s he takes Hendrix songs to a whole other level! If you want to listen to some more slower real bluesy stuff check out SRV with Johnny Copeland performing “Tin Pan Alley” and “life without you” a song written for a friend who died! He did not know how to read music he learned strictly by ear, SRV Passed away August 1990 at the age of 35 in a helicopter crash after leaving a concerts! RIP SRV 💔
...different ...both versions of 'Voodoo Chile' are fantastic ...SRV's version heavier ...but NOTHING beats Hendrix and Little Wing ...NOTHING, nowhere, never!
Nothing beats SRV playing voodoo Chile and little wing!! Nothing beats Hendrix playing voodoo chile and little wing!!! They're both unbeatable each in their own style, in their own way. You can't take anything away from each since they're both amazingly unmatched.
Well said, although I do love Jimi Hendrix? Stevie ray took voodoo Chile and little wing and made them all his own. I get annoyed when people say he's just biting off Jimi's style and songs acting like it's a carbon copy.all you have to do is listen and you can tell there's a big difference
Both Hendrix's Voodoo Child and SRV's version Voodoo Chil(e) (Slight Return) are great even if SRV's version is better, you have to remember if it wasn't for Hendrix than there wouldn't be no "Voodoo Chile".
Joe Bonamassa is the present day SRV IMO. He was voted best blues guitar player in the world recently. He was a child prodigy. He's now in his 30's. Love your vids guys.
If there’s a musician that you love their music go SEE them! I passed up an SRV concert to buy subs figured catch him the next time. Got my tickets but he died 3 weeks before I had my chance. RIP Stevie never another live guitarist like him. Buddy Guy at least played Texas Flood and Pride in Joy as tribute couple months later for me to see
What’s crazy is he got even better when he got sober. Watch Voodoo Child ( Live One Night in Texas. It’s one of the most incredible performances I’ve ever seen him do.
Many of us have had being sober and clean Change Our Lives in so many ways. By the way, altho AA says it is not religious, the mr. christian god with, of course, the male pronoun made it very difficult to come back after 8 yrs relapse....but then I found out there were/are Atheist/Agnostic AA Meetings, got clean and sober again. I'm fortunate, so many have died or killed others accidentally...
Someone that plays with passion like Stevie Ray Vaughn. Jeff Healy blind guitar player. The man can play and he looses his soul in his music. Stevie will always be the guitar legend of our time. Hands down.
If you want to see the best example of man and guitar intertwined, watch “third stone from the sun” at live at the el mocambo. It’s insane. SRV is definitely my favorite guitarist of all time. He died in a helicopter crash on, I believe it was, August 27th 1990 at the age of 35 if I’m not mistaken. Thanks for the great reaction.
Little Wing does the same thing. Since he played them back to back, you have to watch them together. Shame it's not on the DVD. But thankfully it's on RUclips
There are a number of great guitar players. But they only play the guitar. SRV and his guitar were one entity. It was as though they morphed into this one amazing being. Miss SRV.
When you want to go down to the river and be saved..its because of artists like SRV...no one compares,, to yu SRV ... and not resting in peace brother, but tearing it up with the angels...
I saw him at Red Rocks. I cried. He and the guitar were one. It was weird and spiritual. The guitar was an extension of him, and we felt what he was feeling. I can’t explain it. I wept. Seriously.
So many of us who have heard Stevie and Double Trouble have cried watching these youtubes (especially THIS one) but although I didn't go see him when we were both in Seattle 1985, I get chills and tears and gratitude when I listen (and dance with my basketball) and see him here. Linda 75 yrs.
Is anyone like SRV today? The short answer is no. And it's not even close. There are many talented cats out there, but none can come close to measuring up to Stevie. There is one bad a$$ dude still alive that is in the same vein as SRV and the other greats, and that's Buddy Guy. Dude is 80+ and still killing it! Gotta check him out. PS - Buddy and Stevie were tight. Check them out playing Champagne and Reefer together. Daaaaaaayum!
Had the pleasure to watch Stevie on New Years Eve NYC at the Ritz was the 2am show. I worked my way to standing right in front of him, leaning on stage, could have touched him... OMG it was amazing.
His last performance was on stage with Clapton, Guy, Jimmy Vaughn (his brother).... they said he owned it that night - it was his best performance ever. We lost a blues guitar genius who will never be replaced.
SRV was from Dallas. These days some good guitarists are Joe Bonamassa, Eric Johnson and Kenny Wayne Shepherd (who plays Electric Blues and does his own and some SRV songs really well. and has an excellent lead singer Noah Hunt). SRV is my guitar hero of all time tho: RIP😎🎸
Johnny lang is awesome! I'm just starting to listen to Kenny Wayne Sheppard. I can tell from listening to Jonny lang? He he has that same kind of soul when he plays.not to mention he was only 13 years old when he recorded his first album
@@Coach15Advo that's awesome, kws was heavily influenced by stevie ray Vaughn. John Mayor to.a guitar player a lot of people might not be familiar with is from a group called Los lonely boy's.
Stan welcome aboard the Stevie Ray Vaughan Train. Everyone is welcome..... One of my favorites was Stevie Ray Vaughan Albert King - Pride and Joy
Me too and Mary Had a Little Lamb.
Couldn't stand the weather. But I love all of SRV music
There is no one who is like Stevie. Never will be.
The rest is history.
yea my dad used to live in the same neighborhood as him and jimmy and would hangout together
Stevie's broken nose was courtesy of Jimmie, for playing Jimmie's guitar when Jimmie was out of the house.
Stevie's all time favourite guitarist? Jimmie Vaughan.
No one can come close to SRV and that was ecstasy to my ears. Loved his spirit ; it invigorated mine.
He is NOT one of the best guitar players. He is THE guitar player (and i love so many of them).
Well said
Stevie is the truth, and like you said: "The Guitar 🎸 Player." No one ever will walk this planet and be like SRV, playing like his can never be duplicated.
SRV is my favorite guitar player of all time as well...
As he should be
Me starting this video: “Damn, Stan’s gonna get his shit rocked!”
And as expected, he looked traumatized.
Mind Blown! lol!
How mush is them playing and how mush is electronic enhancement.
Had the honor and privilege of seeing Stevie Ray twice, and he put a piece of his soul into every note he played... nobody can ever touch him..R.I.P. Stevie Ray..
Allegeon are awesome. So is old fates warning
There is only one ☝️ SRV. God broke the mold after he made Him.
Every time he plays this song live he does a different into, and they are all brilliant. Long Live SRV. We love and miss ya bro.
Stan, my sentiments exactly ... every time I watch SRV. Glad you have been introduced to the GOAT!
NOT A SONG BUT AN EXPERIENCE
So true, and yeeessss! That would've been a perfect album title
Who now?
Stevie Ray Vaughan ... musical genius. Stan's first experience seeing and hearing SRV play ... priceless. Great reaction guys ...
He’s from Dallas and no one reminds me of him because he is a unique player. There will never be another srv
Please listen to Tommy Katona and Texas Flood. You can find them on RUclips.
The way he made this guitar sing! Oh my... great reaction ❣❣
Stevie was such a sweet man and gentle soul. He could play like no other and loved what he did for a living. I miss him so very much.
"I've never heard of Stevie Ray Vaughan.". Two days later - I've listened to every song by him and have not slept one hour.
SRV was one of a kind. Nobody will ever be better than he was. He will live forever in the hearts of all true guitar lovers.
You gentlemen are fantastic
Born in Dallas migrated to Austin. Kenny Wayne Shepard is my next Stevie. And the 21 people who put thumbs down have no musical taste what so ever
Excellent--SRV was a beast on that Strat - I had the honor of seeing him live 3 times before he had a recording contract - no one plays with more passion or soul than Stevie - you feel his music - Do "Lenny" from the same concert as this one - a song he wrote - RIP SRV
Ah you are lucky!
My granddaughter absolutely love SRV's song "Lenny" her fave of all time and she is only 24 so he was way before her time. She will sit and listen to him for hours. I just it!
Mindblowing you are witnessing a genious he is truly one of a kind
The guitar is part of his soul. He couldn’t read music but who cares.
reading music is overrated....if your good you can pick up enough to get by with people who do read.
@@snozbaries7652 Totally agreed, they only teach you reading music as a "fundamental" in music school because it makes their job easier, not because it makes you a better player.
Reading music isn’t part of fundamental theory and guitar playing. It’s just one way to learn other people’s music.
@@MrSomerandomchap I never thought of it that way so no wonder I want to play my own stuff./
Read music, I don't need to read no stinkin music ( spoken for SRV in his absence)
SRV, my all time favorite. Greatest guitarist ever, PERIOD.
Amen to that
patron40silver agreed. Check out Danny Gatton, he was called the greatest unknown guitarist for several years.
P E R I O D
there will never be another SRV
Look back to BB King, Muddy Waters, and further back to Robert Johnson, Stevie Rey Vaughn is the the best I have ever heard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SRV! I miss him every single day! Has not been and will never be another!
@@_MOORE_1986 very good point
Passion, talent, and energy in every show....and the epitome of cool.
All you had to say was you love Stevie Ray Vaughn and I subscribed!!! Lol keep em coming please!!💞💞💞
No Words. Subliminal, at it's Best ! SRV, The Master's of Master.
R.I.P., my Dear Friend. See you, in Heaven.
Lucio - from Switzerland .
Joe Bonamassa is the present day SRV IMO. He was voted best blues guitar player in the world recently. He was a child prodigy. He's now in his 30's. Love your vids guys.
A great player....... but a pale copy.... anyone/everyone is....
This entire live show is utterly amazing.
The music plays Stevie..it's part of his soul. :)
Someone that plays with passion like Stevie Ray Vaughn. Jeff Healy blind guitar player. The man can play and he looses his soul in his music. Stevie will always be the guitar legend of our time. Hands down.
Ok...you want to see SRV playing with another legendary blues guitarist, check out SRV and Johnny Copeland performing “Tin Pan Alley”
Yes yes! That was an amazing performance.
Yes please!
Yep agree 👍❤
I love seeing people's reaction to SRV, he was from another planet. Greatest blues guitarist ever
Yeah there’s no doubt. His touch was ridiculously fine tuned. 🌜💨
Jack Scott check out Marcus King
Banamaso. His fingers have their own brains.
Had the pleasure to watch Stevie on New Years Eve NYC at the Ritz was the 2am show. I worked my way to standing right in front of him, leaning on stage, could have touched him... OMG it was amazing.
Should watch SRV and Jeff Healey, that is amazing
Best string bender ever to live. PERIOD He gives a blues master class that no one can ace. Phemominal.
Lived in Austin and Dallas Texas at various times. Died in a helicopter crash in 1990. IMO, the best guitar player ever.
Years later... I really miss these side-by-side videos. You two are great. "You awright?" and back an' forth from there. So great.
“Is he one of the best guitarists ever?”
“Uh huh....uh huh....yea!” Lol nice!
The best
I love the way he used the heavy gaged strings. He is my favorite guitarist, ever!
Stevie Ray Vaughan. that's it. there is no other.
Man this dude got me over here shaking my head in disbelief! Sheesh!!! He played for like 30 seconds of the song behind the back! LMBO
You gotta check out srv and Johnny Copeland doin tin pan alley
emjacks1 exactly an incredible performance, also his session with King is amazing.
Dang, I wanted to recommend Tin Pan Alley. Oh well...
@@tackle47one of my favorite
It's a MUST!
SRV/ albert king jam session is great, too.
When asked about his tone, SRV said, "Use heavy strings, tune low, and floor it. That's all the technical stuff I know"
Stan, go take a rest...LOL, you were just in astonishment (As in "How can I not know?")
My favorite reaction of all
Time. Awesome. Supernatural Stevie.
Johnny Lang and Kenny Wayne Shepherd are two I think are cut from a similar mold as Stevie but there is only one and will never be another SRV.
Johnny lang is awesome! I'm just starting to listen to Kenny Wayne Sheppard. I can tell from listening to Jonny lang? He he has that same kind of soul when he plays.not to mention he was only 13 years old when he recorded his first album
Had the pleasure of seeing KWS in Denver a couple years. Very talented guy who admits that he was influenced by SRV.
@@Coach15Advo that's awesome, kws was heavily influenced by stevie ray Vaughn. John Mayor to.a guitar player a lot of people might not be familiar with is from a group called Los lonely boy's. He's a big stevie ray Vaughn fan as well as Carlos Santana. If your interested in checking him out? Look up there first album under the same name. The whole album is awesome
Don’t forget Derek Trucks
KWS is a massive SRV fan. He's had Stevie's drummer Chris Layton playing in his band for ages now!
He never looks at his guitar…..or what he’s doing! Amazing. Honestly this left me speechless!
He was born and raised in Dallas Texas and we lost him on August 27, 1990
Luna... Awesome!
In my opinion? The only guitarist who could possibly set the neck of the guitar on fire with his speed and agility. The man was truly from another time
I've said that playing the blues is like having to be black twice. Stevie Ray Vaughan missed on both counts, but I never noticed. - BB King
Off in his own world, just he and his guitar......and his band. Always played from his soul. Hardly even looked at his guitar....G.O.A.T.!!
