Great video, a lot of people have no idea that nitrifying bacteria function based on demand. Bacteria can colonize due to demand and also die off because of less demand. Adding new fish will cause fluctuations in water chemistry regardless of how established.

You can use some media from your established tanks and expedite the cycling ,by using media from an established tank you can completely cycle a tank in less than two weeks .

Yes you can. That's a shortcut for people that have existing tanks. It would similar to the mini cycle that I explained in the video.

Love the channel and my son and I are thinking about getting into these guys...not on this scale, but with the hope of breeding. You can't have enough black diamond rays out there! Care to comment Kevin? Your doing good work!

What is the best ph to keep motoros? I have high ph about 8 coming from my tap. I have been using half rodi half tap to keep the ph down. I would like to use straight tap water but worry about high ph. Can rays handel high ph as long as it's constant? And what level of ph swing is deadly to the rays? My ph is normally around 7.5 and goes as high as 8.2 and low as 7. Any help on ph would be great. Thank you inadcance. I love you videos. As a noob in ray keeping your videos have taught me a lot.

i know that we need some ammonia in order to feed the bacteria ammonia so they can start converting.

Hello Kevin, good video. I just got in the hobby of fish keeping. There are so many videos of cycling a new tank, I was ready to pull my hair out. I gave up and just did a fish in cycle, did you use any old filter media? Did you add any beneficial bacteria to start the tank? I’ve had my 10 gallon with fish now for about a month but still no nitrite or nitrate. What should I do?
